Job Summary

There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

The Unmanned Systems Operator II and III focus on supporting routine and rapid response of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) inspections throughout the Dominion Energy operating footprint. Additional responsibilities will include consulting and data processing. This position is based out of Richmond, VA but will entail frequent travel across the Dominion Energy footprint (CT, MD, VA, WV, NC, SC, GA, OH, IN, UT, ID, WY, CA).

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Operate with a safety mindset at all times;

  • Develop flight plans, check NOTAMS, check weather and coordinate airspace integration with any affected controlling agencies or privately-owned properties;

  • Conduct pre-mission briefs and complete safety risk assessments prior to flight as well as after-action reviews upon post-flight;

  • Responsible for company vehicle and high dollar unmanned systems;

  • Maintain strict compliance with all FAA Part 107 sUAS rules and regulations;

  • Execute UAS operations in accordance with Dominion Energy procedures;

  • Solve complex problems and provide a new perspective on existing solutions;

  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience;

  • Collaborate with coworkers, partners and clients on projects;

  • Serve as the face of the company on the ground, providing superior customer service;

  • Perform minor integration and maintenance on the aircraft;

  • Travel frequently (up to 76 to 100%). Note: Travel requirements will be primarily day travel but will involved overnight travel as well.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Unmanned Systems Operator II

  • 2+ years of relevant UAS operating (piloting) experience, demonstrating ability to perform work of increasing complexity;

  • Strong proficiency with various unmanned systems (Air, Land & Maritime), demonstrating in-depth knowledge and experience, to include comprehensive knowledge of all practices and procedures;

  • 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate;

  • Demonstrated skill in utilizing sUAS-related post-processing software to include GIS software;

  • Possessing a thorough understanding of the capabilities, limitations and sensor payloads of the applicable Unmanned Aircraft Systems;

  • Ability to manipulate precise instrumentation with coordination;

  • Good knowledge of aviation principles;

  • Ability to provide guidance to others through day-to-day interactions;

  • Ability to work independently as well as supportively within a team;

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn

Preferred:

  • Background in sUAS as well as with other robotic operations (submersibles, ROV's);

  • Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating;

  • Experience on sUAS fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, LiDAR, or Optical Gas Imaging.

Unmanned Systems Operator III

5+ years of relevant experience;

  • Relevant UAS operating (piloting) experience, ability to demonstrate an increase in complexity of UAS Operations;

  • Highly proficient with various unmanned systems (Air, Land & Maritime), demonstrating in-depth knowledge and experience, to include comprehensive knowledge of all practices and procedures;

-14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate;

-30+ hours of UAS flight time on utility transmission/distribution lines;

  • Demonstrated expertise in utilizing sUAS-related post-processing software to include GIS software;

  • Possessing a thorough understanding of the capabilities, limitations and sensor payloads of the applicable Unmanned Aircraft Systems;

  • Ability to manipulate precise instrumentation with coordination;

  • Good knowledge of aviation principles;

  • Ability to provide instruction and guidance to others through formal training and day-to-day interactions;

  • Ability to work independently as well as supportively within a team;

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn;

  • Required practical demonstration of skills during interview.

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined above.

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience are encouraged to apply.

Education Requirements

Associate Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.

Preferred Disciplines - Aviation, Information Technology, Robotics.

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Required:

14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate; Driver's license and clean driving record; will operate a company vehicle.

Preferred:

Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating

Working Conditions

Office Work Environment Up to 25%

Travel 76- 100%

Other Working Conditions

Will be lifting up to 50 lbs independently. Work involves walking through brush, heavily wooded areas, and on uneven terrain. Will be standing for several hours at a time. Work takes place primarily outside in all weather conditions.
