The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for the lifecycle management of all assets in an assigned service area. Specifically, the Sustaining Engineer is responsible for Reliability Engineering for Maintenance and Asset Condition Monitoring of assets assigned. The Sustaining Engineers work side-by-side with operations Service Area Managers, Technical Leads, and operators and receive day-to-day leadership and guidance from their Asset Planners. As part of the condition monitoring process, Sustaining Engineers will focus on the current and future health of the systems and work closely with the Asset Planners to develop long-term sustaining strategies for each system. These strategies will focus on increasing system reliability, availability, maintainability, and redundancy; improving sparing; obtaining advanced training; coordinating system upgrades; planning modernization efforts; and increasing data pathways.The Sustaining Engineer will be working on various Radar and Telemetry systems. Competitive candidates will have experience in lifecycle engineering and maintenance of radar or telemetry systems.

  • Performs all activities associated with the design, development, implementation, maintenance, configuration management and quality control of software for scientific/engineering applications.

  • Analyze customer requirements and translate them into a design. Create prototypes. Perform internal testing of software products. Respond to and resolve software discrepancies against documented requirements.

  • Generate program design language and code based on department standards. Determine software maintainability and overall adherence to user requirements on department standards. Generate/update documents defining software product baselines. Evaluate vendor software and make recommendations.

  • The Radar Systems Engineer is responsible for all system lifecycle activities for the radar systems at wallops including C-band tracking radars, X-band phased array radars, and X- and S-Band air and sea surveillance radars.

  • Radar engineer will follow NASA Systems Engineering process.

  • Radar Engineer must have experience performing FMEA, requirements development, RF design, transmitter design, engineering drawings, root cause analysis, radar performance evaluation and calculations, and radar modeling.

Education:

  • BS in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering

  • Qualified candidates must demonstrate ability to generate requirements, prepare engineering drawings and develop FMEA products.
