Job Summary

This position will perform accounting and analytical tasks in support of service company billing as well as financial and regulatory reporting. This position is open to remote applicants.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly financial close process.

  • Prepare and assist with the review of monthly and quarterly journal entries, account analyses, and account reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Ensure all accounting transactions are thoroughly documented, meet a standard of re-performance, and can be easily followed.

  • Coordinate, develop, and review responses to internal and external data or regulatory requests.

  • Provide accounting guidance to both accounting and non-accounting co-workers to resolve accounting/financial related issues.

  • Develop and manage relationships and communications with organizational stakeholders.

  • Plan, prioritize, and lead ad hoc projects, research, and analysis outside normal recurring tasks.

  • Maintain an effective system of internal controls for all financial transactions.

  • Ensure accounting is performed in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepares, verifies, and records customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with major or concentration in Accounting is required.

  • Advanced degree or CPA certification is a plus.

Experience, Knowledge, & Skills

  • Understanding of GAAP, FERC, SEC and other rules, regulations, and reporting requirements, as well as Company policies and guidelines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a commitment to accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-direct, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and build working relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements.

  • Proficiency with Southern Company financial applications and processes is a plus.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Microsoft Excel proficiency.
