Costing Analyst
Description
This position is responsible for producing cost of service analyses to support regulatory filings, rate design, wholesale agreements, energy sales and efficiency requests, profitability analyses, and management requests. To facilitate accurate analyses, this position coordinates with others across Alabama Power Company to obtain, understand, and validate study inputs. Additional responsibilities include communicating results of the studies to peers, management, and the Alabama Public Service Commission as applicable.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform cost of service analyses as discussed above including developing the annual Jurisdictional Separation Study to be filed with the Alabama Public Service Commission
Maintain models (including collecting and validating necessary data) and develop automated tools that will maximize efficiency of our business processes, ensure accuracy, and improve productivity and efficiency of the team
Manage key stakeholder relationships both internal and external to the company
Communicate summarized results and technical concepts through both written communication and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
Coordinate with internal customers to define key parameters
Work closely with accounting personnel to reconcile key data inputs for analyses with the Company books and records
Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply:
Education
Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or related field is preferred
Advanced degree is a plus
Experience
Experience in structuring, analyzing, summarizing, and presenting large volumes of data using complex models is required
Experience in managing cross functional projects and building effective working relationships across multiple business units is desirable
Experience in cost-of-service, load research, accounting, economic analysis, pricing, finance, generation, transmission, or system planning is preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to apply out of the box problem solving and strategic thinking skills to issues with no clear solution
Strong analytical, quantitative, and communication skills
Strong abilities in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel models combining utilization of advanced features and best practices, exposure to Excel VBA and computer programming are a plus
Demonstrated attention to detail and motivation for quality, accuracy, and timeliness
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with changing priorities effectively
Familiarity with some of the following concepts and utility functions is a plus: cost-of-service, load research, accounting, economic analysis, pricing, finance, generation, transmission, system planning, financial reporting through accounting schedules, utility rate design, regulatory filings
