Laboratory Specialist
Description
The Materials Testing Analyst is responsible for maintaining the material quality assurance program, which is accomplished through on-site manufacturing inspections, incoming material sampling inspections, and material analysis and reporting of in-service material failures. The Materials Testing Analyst is also responsible for lab activities in support of testing and evaluating new materials to be used in the gas system. This position will also evaluate new technologies and assist in the implementation, tracking and reporting on status of the technology being introduced. Analyst responds to corporate-wide, material-based requests for technical support.
Functional Expertise:
Establishes testing protocols for tools and materials with guidance from industry standards such as ASTM, ANSI and API. Conducts testing and ensures all laboratory equipment is maintained to the appropriate standards.
Develops and implements statistical sampling of incoming materials to ensure material quality. Compares sampling results against the product requirements specified in the purchase order.
Sets criteria and operates equipment and tools in order to evaluate their performance.
Conducts root-cause analysis of in-use materials/tools deemed defective or to have failed.
Writes formal, analytical communications including approval reports, corrective action reports, material standards, procedures, and operating manuals.
Performs gas analysis utilizing gas chromatography

Collaborates with Materials Engineer(s) in the preparation of laboratory and field tests, data analysis, and reporting required for evaluation of new products, materials, and technologies.
Prepares communication plan in regards to the introduction of new products, changes to existing products, and material failure analysis response.
Responds to internal requests enterprise-wide for technical support as it relates to materials, system components, purging requirements, and gas composition.
Interacts with third party labs for specialized testing.

Monitors material performance to service level and listed standards
Ensures tests are conducted to meet customers' scope and project deadlines
Conducts on-site manufacturing inspections to ensure vendor compliance with specified requirements of the material being purchased.
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
Analyst / Senior Analyst
Engineer / Engineer, Intermediate
Preferred:
Training in product testing procedures
Project management experience
EIT or Professional Engineering License
Related Work Experience:
Required:
Analyst
2 years' experience in a gas utility, pipeline transmission, or other energy-related field
Experience in a laboratory or other controlled testing environment.
Senior Analyst
10 years' experience in a gas utility, pipeline transmission, or other energy-related field
Experience in a laboratory or other controlled testing environment.
Engineer, Intermediate
2 years of engineering or operations experience in a gas utility, pipeline transmission, or other energy-related field including gas industry equipment manufacturing.
Experience in a laboratory or other controlled testing environment.
Engineer
5 years of engineering or operations experience in a gas utility, pipeline transmission, or other energy-related field including gas industry equipment manufacturing.
Experience in a laboratory or other controlled testing environment.
Preferred:
Experience with material specifications
Materials Quality Assurance / Quality Control background
Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Occasional Traveler (5-20% travel): The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
