Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible to direct and manage all activities related to drivers and dockworkers. Utilize resources to move freight in the safest and most cost-effective manner to meet or exceed customer expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop daily delivery plan utilizing equipment, manpower, and other resources to ensure effective and efficient operations and that work assignments are completed properly.

  2. Supervise all activities of drivers and dockworkers responsible for efficient loading/unloading of trailers along with productive pick-up and delivery of freight at customer locations.

  3. Ensure necessary resources of labor, equipment and time are available to all employees to allow maximum productivity of operations staff.

  4. Speak to employee groups and conduct effective pre-shift meetings.

  5. Ensure load quality, timelines, and work efficiency goals are met.

  6. Interact daily with internal and external customers to deliver exceptional customer service to meet and exceed customer expectations and provide on-time and quality delivery of freight.

  7. Recruit, develop and retain qualified employees to ensure effective operations in support of company's mission and goals. Responsible for the selection, training, motivation and discipline of employees.

  8. Communicate company safety program, trains, and enforces safety rules and compliance with all government regulations.

  9. Administer safety programs which encourage a safe work environment and focus on prevention of accidents and injuries.

  10. Complete necessary paperwork/data entry accurately and in a timely manner to ensure an efficient and steady flow of information.

  11. Ensure compliance with government, company, and local labor regulations, policies, and procedures.

TheYellow Corporation, along with all subsidiary companies , dock to driver program starts on our dock where you work and learn dock operations, forklift training, and loading and unloading trailers. Then, Yellow trains individuals at the Yellow Truck Driving Academies. Yellow's training programs are a US Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program. Academy classes meet 8-hours a day, 5-days a week for 4 weeks. While at the Driving Academy, students earn a wage for their training time and may be eligible for paid travel based on location . After successful completion of the Driving Academy, students test for a Class A CDL with Hazmat, Tanker, and Doubles/Triples endorsements.

The Yellow Driving Academies teach students skills to be the one of the safest drivers on the road. Our instructors, many with a million miles or more of safe driving experience, actively engage all students in the classroom, in the practice yard, and on the road. By joining Yellow, you attend our Best in Class Truck Driving Academy/Apprenticeship and enter a fulfilling, dynamic occupation.

Paid training is at $17.50per hour. Once you receive your Class A CDL you will increase significantly to a qualified driver's pay.

Once a student successfully completes the Yellow Driving Academy, they are trained at their home terminal for another 4 weeks. Once they are signed off to drive solo, their responsibilities include:

  • Operating a tractor-trailer (single, double, or triple trailer combination) in various driving environments and weather conditions between company facilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Comply with all company policies local work and safety rules, and federal, state, and local regulations that govern the industry.

  2. Follow company procedures for properly and safely loading and unloading freight. Safely operate an industrial powered forklift to load and unload freight.

  3. Take and verify dispatch instructions.

  4. Operate a tractor-trailer combination (single, double, or triple trailer combination) in urban, suburban, and rural environments and in all types of weather conditions between company facilities and various customers.

  5. Drive truck to transport materials in liquid or packaged form to and from specified destinations, such as railroad stations, plants, residences, offices, or within industrial yards. Verify load against shipping papers. Drive truck to specified destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads in area. Prepare receipt for load picked up. Collect payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges.

  6. Load and unload freight in varying weather conditions at the company and customer facilities, using the same procedures and techniques as a Dock Worker.

  7. Safe operation of equipment and on-time movement of shipments between company locations and customers, meeting established run times and schedules.

  8. Drop and hook trailer(s) and change the configuration of equipment, as necessary. Connect air hoses and electrical lines, install, and remove tire chains, and manually crank dolly wheels.

  9. When hauling hazardous material, verify the hazardous material product description, determine any discrepancies in the paperwork, and verify proper placarding.

  10. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Inspect the operating condition of the tractor and trailer(s) before and after trip, and when stopped enroute. Take responsibility for reasonable and customary care for the security of equipment.

  11. May maintain truck electronic logging device (ELD) logs according to state and federal regulations. May maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions. May inspect truck equipment as supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. May perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, fuses, and tire chains.

The Engineering Manager will act as a subject matter expert for project management, analytical, industrial engineering, and Six Sigma support for the organization. Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Engineering Manager will act as a subject matter expert for project management, analytical, industrial engineering, and Six Sigma support for the organization. Manage improvement projects with the goals of; increased customer satisfaction, sustainable low cost, increased reliability, reduced service variability, improved quality, and shorter cycle times. Consult and/or participate in select Lean Six Sigma improvement projects or initiatives. Responsible for documenting processes, measuring performance, analyzing performance drivers, providing statistical controls, monitoring progress, and identifying opportunities for process or system improvements that achieve operational efficiencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform a variety of routine tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering staff, methods, practices, and programs of the organization.

  2. Provide subject matter expert support to achieve goals and successfully complete assigned projects, verify statistical analysis, and Six Sigma processes.

  3. Partner with Senior Management, business leaders, subject matter experts, project teams and functional/non-functional partners to develop solutions to critical daily business challenges.

  4. Lead project teams to define project scope, analyze complex variables, identify effective solutions, and develop implementation and control plans using appropriate Lean Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering methodologies and tools.

  5. Lead and facilitate cross-functional project teams and communicate the teams' progress to business leadership. Progress will be measured by regularly monitoring performance against defined milestones, as well as improvements in key metrics.

  6. Apply Lean Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering approach and methods to analyze root cause issues and identify a creative solution to the problem.

  7. Prepare analyses and present information on improvement opportunities to Senior Leadership as well as within the assigned business area where the project resides.

  8. Develop documentation for assigned projects.

  9. Identify cross-functional or complex projects and drive projects to achieve maximum results.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering and eight (8) years industrial engineering experience or no degree and twelve (12) years industrial engineering or operations management experience.

  2. Demonstrated strong project management proficiency, including high level and high profile projects.

  3. Experience using MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  4. Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including to audiences of highly knowledgeable professionals.

  5. Understand sample size calculations for statistical tests and associated risks.

  6. Possess strong influencing, coaching, and facilitative skills with the ability to bring teams together to achieve targets and goals.

  7. Ability to diagnose and affect cultural change in moderate to difficult circumstances.

  8. Willingness to travel up to 50% and nights and weekends when required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.

  1. Demonstrated Lean Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering proficiency in analyses including basic statistics, control charts, and capability analysis statistical tests.

  2. Project management certification.

  3. Valid Sigma Black Belt certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS
