Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Will supervise, train and develop assigned staff creating a team working environment. Ensure compliance with company and government required policies and procedures. Work with the shop team to meet safety goals. Coordinate the inspection, maintenance and repair of linehaul equipment and/or supervise the rebuild of components and equipment repair. Ensure that repairs are timely for meeting system demands and for providing safe, reliable and driver acceptable equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure the efficient movement of inbound tractors, trailers and converters through the service lanes.

  2. Maintain required maintenance documentation.

  3. Coordinate maintenance on all equipment. Coordinate a cost effective preventative maintenance program providing for safe, clean, driver acceptable equipment.

  4. Supervise the repair of equipment ensuring timeliness in meeting system demands.

  5. Maintain inventory control on all repair parts and tools. Review repair orders for accurate listing and extension of repair parts, maintaining proper accountability of chargeable repair parts.

  6. Communicate, monitor and maintain compliance with company safety and work rules, policies, and procedures. Train and develop assigned staff for providing timely and quality repair.

  7. Ensure the shop safety process is followed. Effectively communicate safety topics and perform safety inspection of tools and facilities as required.

  8. Manage area vendors for control to ensure plan containment and schedule of repairs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Freight Supervisor-PT is an Operations supplemental part-time position. Responsible for managing activities of the front-line hourly employees and/or Drivers in either a Distribution Center or End-of-Line Terminal. They will also lead teams and utilize available resources such as manpower and equipment to move freight in the safest and most cost effective manner to meet or exceed customer expectations and to achieve service center and company goals. (This is a Part-Time position limited to 25 hours per week.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Communicate company safety program enforces safety rules and compliance with all government regulations. Maintain a safe work environment at all times.

  2. Interact daily with internal and external customers to deliver exceptional customer service to meet and exceed customer expectations and provide on-time and quality delivery of freight.

  3. Collaborate with interdepartmental teams and other functions to achieve work objectives and ensure seamless movement of freight.

  4. Supervise and direct all activities of dockworkers/drivers and other support staff engaged in the loading and unloading of freight.

  5. Prepare and plan daily utilization of resources to ensure a consistent and efficient operation.

  6. Conduct effective employee pre-shift meetings.

  7. Supervise and observe the loading of trucks to determine conformance to loading patterns to prevent damage to freight during transit and that the safe operation of the truck will not be jeopardized.

  8. Utilize independent judgment and effectively recommend personnel actions in accordance with company policy, procedures and contractual language.

  9. Completes necessary paperwork/data input accurately and in a timely manner to ensure an efficient and steady flow of information.

  10. Manage work assignments, monitor performance and provide training on duties, policies and procedures.

  11. Utilize work method programs for training and education to motivate employees to improve performance and quality of work.

JOB SUMMARY

Lead the knowledge and skill development of employees pursuing a Class A CDL or to meet minimum company requirements for driving experience. Observe, evaluate, and record progress according to company and DOL Apprenticeship standards.

JOB SUMMARY

The Switcher will safely and efficiently move trailers on terminal premises, hook and unhook trailers, connect air hoses and electrical lines, fuel equipment, conduct visual inspections, and install and remove tire chains from trailers. Drive truck and trailer to safely and efficiently transport materials in liquid or packaged form to and from specified destinations. Operate commercial motor vehicles in urban, suburban, and rural areas to pick up and deliver freight. Load, unload and move materials at customer location.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drive truck to transport materials in liquid or packaged form to and from specified destinations. Verify load against shipping papers. Drive truck to specified destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads in area. Prepare receipt for load picked up. Collect payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges.

  2. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Inspect the operating condition of the tractor and trailer(s) before and after trip, and when stopped in route.

  3. When hauling hazardous material, verify the hazardous material product description, determine any discrepancies in the paperwork, and verify proper placarding.

  4. Drop and hook trailer(s) and change the configuration of equipment as necessary. Connect air hoses and electrical lines, install and remove tire chains, and manually crank dolly wheels.

  5. Fuel equipment and perform safety inspections on the equipment.

  6. Perform visual inspections of equipment as required by supervisors. Conduct minor repairs of commercial motor vehicles when instructed to perform such services at the direction of company management.

  7. Connect air hoses and electrical lines, install and remove tire chains, and manually crank dolly wheels.

  8. Drop and hook trailer(s) and change the configuration of equipment as necessary.

  9. Comply with all Company policies, local work and safety rules and federal, state and local regulations that govern the industry.

  10. May maintain truck log according to state and federal regulations. May maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions. May inspect truck equipment as supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. May perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, fuses and tire chains.

  11. Select and use proper tools as necessary to load and unload freight.

  12. Prepare, inspect, and clean trailer(s) before loading freight.

  13. Count all pieces of freight in loading and unloading.

  14. Plan cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight.

  15. Review freight bills for special instructions. Check manifests for existing exceptions. Check the label and the destination code on manifests against freight bills.

  16. When loading freight, check for special instructions, weight distributions on headloads and check headloads against the freight bills.

  17. Inspect condition of freight and notify supervisors of any damaged freight.

  18. Unload long and unusual freight and deliver the freight to a stack area; load long and unusual freight into trailers using proper tools.

  19. Remove loose cartons before unloading freight and remove blocking and dunnage while unloading freight.

  20. Dock skids of freight in designated bay areas.

  21. Attend pre-shift and safety meetings.

  22. Participate in training programs; maintain and update safety skills and knowledge; keep current with hazardous material training requirements.

  23. Perform duties in a manner that promotes superior customer service and professionalism within the Company and the industry.

  • Pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor/trailer(s) and when stopped en route

  • Drop and hook trailer(s) and change equipment configurations as necessary

  • Load and unload freight from trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.

  • Prepare, inspect, and clean trailers before loading freight

  • Review freight bills for special instructions and inspect freight for damage

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Doubles/Triples, Tankerand Hazardous Material endorsements

  • Class A CDL Driving Experience Preferred

  • A safe driving record per MVR

  • Ability to push/pull/lift up to 75 pounds frequently, greater than 100 pounds occasionally

  • Read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway and traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, read a bill of lading

  • Work various shifts and days of the week
