The Opportunity

As a dedicated Java Software Engineer - Mid Level, you will be working in a team that is modernizing the Umbrella Policy application in USAA's Property & Casualty organization. They work in Java technologies building in AWS and integrating with Guidewire platform. The candidate selected will be responsible for the full software development lifecycle, from conception and design through testing and deployment. This role requires a strong background in Java and have a keen understanding of software development, and the ability to implement effective solutions.

Provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions

  • Investigates and resolves complex application and system technical problems and production issues through solving techniques.

  • Continually improves operations by conducting complex systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.

  • Prepares and installs complex solutions by resolving and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.

  • Follows the software development lifecycle.

  • Mentors junior engineers and may begin mentoring peer engineers; Review teammates' code.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).

  • 4 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s).

  • 2 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle to include leading code/design reviews.

  • Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL.

  • Developing level of business insight in the areas of business operations, risk management, industry practices and emerging trends.

  • Experience supporting efforts to address production issues through fixing applications and systems.

  • Experience articulating technical challenges and solutions.

  • Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

What sets you apart:

  • 4 years of software engineering/development experience using Java

  • 2+ years' experience working with REST API development. Experience building APIs with Spring Boot

  • Working experience in Kafka and AWS.

  • Ability to implement container-based APIs using various container technologies like Open Shift, Docker, or Kubernetes.

  • Familiar with Gradle, Git, GitHub, GitLab, etc. around continuous integration and continuous delivery infrastructure

  • Understanding of Large scale microservice architecture patterns.

As a Mid-Level Policy and Performance Underwriter for Underwriting Policy Mod Team , you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing personal lines P&C Underwriting processes and programs to ensure all underwriting processes are compliant, executed in a cost-efficient manner and effective in achieving desired outcomes. What you'll have:

  • Bachelor's degree: OR 4 additional years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 4 years of direct P&C underwriting experience executing underwriting processes and application of insurance regulations and risk management processes.

  • Proficient knowledge of relevant industry practices, insurance policy contracts, trends, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience in making data driven decisions to create actionable recommendations for performance improvement.

  • Experience in presenting analysis and findings to peers and management to gain support for recommendations and program/process changes.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access.

  • Extensive knowledge of Auto and/or Dwelling products, as well as underwriting philosophy and guidelines.

  • Strong technical expertise with Auto and/or Property Insurance, with a focus on Underwriting acceptability and premium accuracy programs.

The Opportunity

As a dedicated Policy and Performance Underwriter Senior, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing personal lines P&C Underwriting processes and programs to ensure all underwriting processes are compliant, executed in a cost-efficient manner and effective in achieving desired outcomes. Partners with internal stakeholders to maintain P&C Underwriting policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with state regulations.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

What you'll do:

  • Leads the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, controls, and strategies for all P&C Lines of Business to achieve P&C outcomes.

  • Owns and manages multiple underwriting processes and/or Experiences by independently gathering qualitative and quantitative analytical data to proactively evaluate and recommend changes to or establish a point of view on the Underwriting appetite for product acceptability.

  • Key contributor in developing underwriting educational programs/tools, training/mentoring, and communications for the delivery to internal and external audiences to include UW and P&C EMG.

  • Provides direction and shares knowledge with other employees who manage underwriting programs, guidelines, and processes.

  • Leverages data-driven problem-solving techniques, using data analysis tools, to manipulate and interpret business results. Translates findings into insights, shaping into project or Initiative requests where warranted.

  • Gathers qualitative and quantitative analytical data to conduct root cause analysis to proactively evaluate and recommend changes to or establish a point of view on the Underwriting appetite or other underwriting processes.

  • Evaluates and pilots new strategic and innovative business solutions to optimize and automate underwriting processes.

  • Configures, tests, and implements systematic underwriting changes while adhering to rule documentation standards.

  • Communicates and shares information across the P&C organization, tailors messaging for audiences ranging from peers to P&C leaders.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you'll have:

  • Bachelor's degree: OR 4 additional years (10 Total) of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 6 years of experience in Property & Casualty, Project Management, Process Engineering, Business Process or Risk Management, to include direct experience executing underwriting processes and/or defining underwriting procedures.

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant industry practices, insurance policy contracts, trends, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience in interpreting and applying P&C regulations to mitigate underwriting compliance risk.

  • Experience in making data driven decisions to create actionable recommendations for performance improvement.

  • Experience in presenting analysis and findings to varying levels of management and business stakeholders to gain support for recommendations and influence initiatives.

  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Agile Product Owner (APO) for the Credit Card Rewards team delivering exceptional rewards & loyalty experiences for our members. This role will lead the Manage Rewards experience that enrolls members/accounts on rewards, maintains and awards the reward based on scoring. What you'll do:

  • Primarily serves as Auditor-in-Charge (AIC) and main point of contact for the business through Audit engagements.

We are seeking a dedicated Business Process Owner Lead - Property Claims Process Optimization. This role will be part of a Property Claims Process Optimization team that handles Additional Living Expense/Loss of Use, Coverage, Contents, and Communication.

As business process owner, leads planning for highly complex processes including problem definition, evaluation of requirements, design, testing, and implementation of business processes. Understands the process operating objectives, business rules, performance requirements, risks, and controls and interactions between dependent processes to minimize failures, eliminate redundancies, and control process performance necessary to achieve efficient, effective design and execution of the process Actively develops and drives alignment of process to overall experience strategy and vision.

  • Develops business process deliverable program plans that align customer, business deliverable and enterprise strategy. Ensures alignment with customer and appropriate roadmap(s).

  • Applies and maintains expert knowledge of the business and manages ongoing alignment and development of business deliverable processes and capabilities with business needs to materially change and improve business performance.

  • Serves as strategic advisor bringing diverse perspective to leverage multiple ways of thinking while developing end-user focused process solution

  • Guides and influences process re-engineering and technology implementation to enable process redesign and innovation. Leads the overall management of process performance by developing control limits, monitoring key performance indicators and informing stakeholders of any deficiencies, improvements, operational risks issues, etc. and drives collaborative efforts to ensure process delivers against requirements.

  • Collects and consolidates demand and identifies opportunities by business portfolio, vertically within the business unit and/or horizontally across the enterprise.

  • Reviews, advises, and develops communication plans for customers and internal stakeholders and ensures communications are in alignment with overall strategy.

  • Ensures alignment between internal stakeholders and customers across all business process projects and services using proactive communication and engagement strategies.

What you have:

  • 8 years business process execution/knowledge/experience, consulting, and/or process engineering/optimization.

  • Experience in successfully applying quality management, process improvement, and problem-solving tools and methodologies.

  • Extensive hands on experience with Process Mapping and Modeling and creating and validating process documentation.
