The Opportunity

As a dedicated Director, Underwriting Research , you will be responsible for Managing a team of staff insurance professionals in planning, developing, and administration of P&C Auto Underwriting Strategic Programs which support both corporate and P&C operational performance objectives. Ensures creations of new strategic programs and capabilities for Underwriting.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Directs the identification, analysis, development, and implementation of complex initiatives that maintain the relevance and integrity of our underwriting policies, processes and programs while balancing operational efficiency, competitiveness, and regulatory compliance. Implementation may include overseeing business configuration efforts, including testing and deployment.

  • Directs the development, maintenance and optimization of existing processes and systems to comply with legal and company requirements while delivering maximum ROI.

  • Ensures adherence to established policies and effective program support.

  • Manages identification and implementation of opportunities to improve processes and systems to increase member conductivity, employee experience, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency.

  • Directs the oversight of P&C Underwriting supplier programs leveraging available products to improve risk management and operational efficiency.

  • Collaborates cross-functionally to identify/implement P&C Underwriting requirements for new products, services, and data.

  • Stays abreast of emerging technology and external factors that may present opportunities for P&C Underwriting. Includes evaluating industry solutions for application to products, programs and processes. Develops business cases and business requirements for identified solutions.

  • Directs and oversees multiple initiatives in support of Underwriting and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives including but not limited to: oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, CoSA Third Party Governance, or quality governance.

  • Leads planning for highly complex processes including problem definition, evaluation of requirements, design, testing, and implementation of business processes. Understands the process operating objectives, business rules, performance requirements, risks, and controls and interactions between dependent processes to minimize failures, eliminate redundancies, and control process performance necessary to achieve efficient, effective design and execution of the process.

  • Applies and maintains expert knowledge of the business and manages ongoing alignment and development of business deliverable processes and capabilities with business needs to materially change and improve business performance.

  • Guides and influences process re-engineering and technology implementation to enable process redesign and innovation. Leads the overall management of process performance by developing control limits, monitoring key performance indicators, and informing stakeholders of any deficiencies, improvements, operational risks issues, etc. and drives collaborative efforts to ensure process delivers against requirements.

  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you'll have:

  • Bachelor's Degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years of experience in Property & Casualty, Project Management, Process Engineering, Business Process or Risk Management, to include direct experience executing underwriting processes and/or defining underwriting procedures.

  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant industry practices, trends, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience reviewing policies and procedures documents and identifying and articulating the risks and opportunities.

  • Proven skills in developing strong relationships with peers and business stakeholders and collaborating across the organization.

  • Advanced experience in developing and presenting analysis and findings to senior levels of management and key stakeholders to gather support for business initiatives and influence strategy.

  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access.

What sets you apart:

  • Auto Underwriting, pricing, and/or product expertise.

  • Working experience with telematics and 3rd party auto data.

  • Working experience with usage of predictive models in shaping premium accuracy and UW programs.

  • Demonstrated experience leading large program efforts to drive change adoption.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $120,550-$230,400.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

This Executive will lead the second line independent oversight and challenge of the Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) team. In a second line of defense role, this Executive will have oversight of Procurement and Third Party Risk Management Program in the first line of defense. This Executive is responsible for identification, assessment, monitoring and report of Third Party Risk across the Enterprise to senior leadership. Executive will oversee a team that performs assessments, ongoing monitoring and effective challenge of first line Third Party Risk Management function.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL.

The Opportunity

What you'll do:

  • Engages with the business on risk and compliance management issues through collaboration with functional leaders, business risk liaisons, and line of business leaders to identify, assess, detect, control, and mitigate all relevant risks.

  • Responsible for the review of state and federal regulatory compliance requirements to include analysis of business impact and operational risk assessment for enacted laws and regulations and recommended company compliance actions to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Establishes and oversees the application of USAA's Risk Management Framework using a risk-based approach for a focused area within the department.

  • Provides oversight on the development of compliance policies, procedures, risk identification, control methodologies and management of risks across the full risk taxonomy.

  • Ensures business risk aligns within appetites tolerances and strategic goals, product plans, forecasts, and adjusts to variances as well as adherence and enforcement of applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Provides guidance and effective challenge related to risk and compliance matters impacting offerings and services within the business being supported.

  • Manages federal and state regulatory agency relationships to obtain regulatory approvals and provides required regulatory feedback.

  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 10 or more years of experience in Risk and Compliance operations, especially in Third Party or Technology risk, in a financial services, banking, or insurance organization with a proven track record leading risk and compliance operations, programs, policies, and procedures.

  • 4 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.

  • Experience implementing enterprise-wide risk and compliance management programs that adhere to regulatory requirements and expectations.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, build collaborative relationships, and provide effective challenge.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex analyses to a non-technical audience.

  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Expert knowledge of risk frameworks and compliance operations.

  • Expert knowledge of financial services or insurance regulations, laws, regulations, and regulatory expectations.

  • Extensive experience providing guidance and oversight to mitigate an organization's exposure to risk.

What sets you apart:

  • Strong understanding of Third Party Risk Lifecycle (Planning, Due Diligence, Contracting, Ongoing Monitoring and Termination).

  • Experience in a Second Line of Defense role overseeing Third Party Risk for a Financial Institution.

  • Understanding of Operational and Compliance Risks associated with Third Parties.

  • Deep subject matter expertise in the management of Information Security and Technology risk for Third Parties, including the ability to assess, articulate and communicate these risks.

  • Ability influence change within the organization at various levels (e.g., Executives, Committees).

  • Industry certification(s) in Third Party Risk (e.g., CTPRP, CTPRA) or Information Security (e.g., CISSP, CISM) or Risk Management (e.g., CRISC).

  • Strong understanding of FED and OCC Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships: Risk Management.

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $163,880.00 - 294,980.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.

The Opportunity

As a dedicated Product Development Manager, you will support the development of new products into target strategic markets. You will provide support for product line initiatives related to product development, compliance, operational and process improvements, claims management, vendor management, product documentation, fulfillment, and/or system releases.

  • Participate in the development of digital first products supporting the needs and risks of USAA Members.

  • Generate creative product and coverage solutions for member needs to ensure a dynamic product development pipeline exists.

  • Develop and communicate the new product value proposition for product enhancements/features.

  • Guide Member Contact teams on how to effectively use sales guides and provides education on new products and services, including new offerings and enhancements to existing features.

  • Analyze and evaluate new product performance metrics to recommend offering change, if necessary, prior to full launch.

  • Coordinate with relevant control partners (to include Leal, Compliance, and Risk Management) to ensure product offerings are designed and implemented in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
