A first line of defense risk professional leading a team within the Governance and Controls Office (GCO), serving as a subject matter expert responsible for effectively and proactively identifying, mitigating, and managing risks within Finance. This position will be responsible for leading a team of risk professionals to support the execution of enterprise risk programs and focusing with the business on existing and emerging risks. Responsible for supporting strong risk management practices in alignment with the firm's risk appetite and Finance's strategic & financial plan.

  1. Engage in risk management activities with Finance, proactively identifying existing and emerging risks, evaluating the significance of the risks, and providing support in managing acceptance or mitigation of the identified risks.

  2. Lead a team of risk advisors responsible for executing the responsibilities of various operations and enterprise risk programs in accordance with the program requirements (Ie: Risk control self-assessments, issues management).

  3. Assist Finance leadership with identifying, assessing, controlling, mitigating, and communicating risks associated with business processes and decisions. Provide oversight and governance to the assigned business unit regarding its control environment.

  4. Support the Finance in the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).

  5. Provide risk management support and oversight for change activities (both business and regulatory change).

  6. Provide oversight and support for open risk, audit, and regulatory issues. Evaluate the root cause, the corrective action plans, and work with business partners to successfully implement and document remediation.

  7. Support the Finance and the GCO governance & reporting team for all audit and regulatory exam engagements.

  8. Communicate with Finance's leadership regarding activities, trends, and events pertaining to risk, regulatory, audit and loan review activities. Promote various risk initiatives and their supporting metrics.

  9. Work alongside the GCO Risk Program Execution team in executing and supporting all risk program activities as defined in policy.

  10. Coach and develop risk advisor teammates within the GCO.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or science/academic field, or equivalent education and related training or experience.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Model Validation Officer, perform advanced level model validation for the corporation. Focus primarily on model validation and quantitative analysis, but also evaluate other model controls and serve as a resource for the corporation in all model risk management related tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  1. Independently perform model validations spanning credit risk, market risk, and capital planning domains to assess fit for purpose, conceptual soundness, mathematical theory and construct, assumptions, data/assumptions, and output reasonableness.

  2. Work with Senior Model Validation Officer on more complex model validation findings and remediation.

  3. Evaluate other model controls such as model performance tracking, change management, access control, and documentation.

  4. Evaluation of validation findings remediation activity including analytical evaluation of residual risk.

  5. Document validation effort in the form of a written report.

  6. Directly support and assist in the duties of the Senior Model Validation Officer.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent education and related training.

  2. Basic computer programming skills (Python, MatLab, SAS, VBA, etc.).

  4. High attention to detail and ability to think at the organizational level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in quantitative finance, mathematics, statistics or a related field.

  2. One or more of CFA/PRM/FRM professional designation.

  3. Advanced competency programming in languages such as Java, C++, TensorFlow, SAS etc.

  4. Exposure to one or more financial modeling disciplines such as credit score modeling, asset-liability management, stress testing, term structure modeling, fraud detection, value-at-risk, capital planning models, loan loss reserve (CECL) modeling, etc.
