Responsible for providing client relationship management and investment banking services including strategic advisory services to corporate and private equity clients related to buyside and sellside M&A, debt and equity capital raising, designated by industry/sector. Industry coverage includes industrials, financial sponsors, consumer and retail, healthcare, financial institutions, energy, and technology, media and telecom. Senior investment banking professionals are expected, over time, to generate a balanced mix of M&A, debt and equity capital raising of $7 million to $30 million subject to the attributes of their sector coverage. In addition, senior investment banking professionals are expected to "sell the bank" by appropriately positioning the banks treasury and payment solutions product suite as well as floating rate and F/X, private wealth, insurance and other services. Senior investment banking professionals are also expected to serve the bank's corporate banking and commercial clients with strategic advisory and the aforementioned traditional investment banking services in partnership with the primary Commercial and Corporate Banking coverage professionals.

Underwriting: leads the entire commercial underwriting process both internally and sometimes externally with prospects and clients. Underwrites, structures, and documents all prospect and client transactions. Possesses a mastery of client and industry expertise, analyzes individual company performance and the impact of industry and competitive dynamics and macroeconomic events on the creditworthiness of clients and prospects. Provides independent, in-depth analysis of financial statements, projections and business plans; identifies and mitigates key risks. Recommends and models appropriate loan structures and while maintaining expertise around the bank's suite of ancillary products, including legal documentation impact and negotiation. Is accountable for the risk evaluation and associated regulatory compliance requirements. May require specialized underwriting skills for Commercial and Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, Corporate Banking, Working Capital and other Truist product offerings

Portfolio Management: Accountable for and manages assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, proactively defining client credit solutions, identifying issues and following through for remediation. Responsible for risk rating integrity, annual reviews as well as financial statement spreading, compliance and regulatory review. Manages all amendment and waivers in the assigned portfolio. The Onboarding & Servicing Team provides ongoing support of the CIB Credit Delivery credit origination and underwriting process by analyzing and summarizing client and transaction information, populating nCino/AFS systems and submitting finalized credit memos for approval. The team supports the loan closing process by gathering documentation required for closing, coordinating loan closings with the closing team and ensuring the proper booking of all facilities on the loan system. The team is responsible for accurate and timely setup of all client credit files, ongoing updates and annual credit file certifications. The team also manages the tracking of reporting requirements and financial covenants as required by legal documentation by monitoring and clearing all ticklers for Credit Delivery clients, providing reporting to Portfolio Managers and mitigating potential risk by early escalation of past dues. The team identifies new and recurring risks related to the origination, closing, booking and funding and ongoing management of CIB Credit Delivery credit products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform activities and manage communication with appropriate internal partners (AFES, Portfolio Management, Risk Management, Loan Ops, etc.) to ensure consistent application of CIB credit procedures and processes and compliance with applicable bank policies and regulatory requirements.

  2. Work closely with AFES Underwriters or Portfolio Managers to gather and review required documentation (underwriting, legal, regulatory etc.) necessary to complete a credit work package for submission for credit approval in nCino/AFS.

  3. Simultaneously supports multiple transactions at different points in the deal flow process.

  4. Coordinate with AFES Underwriters or Portfolio Managers to ensure all credit packages are approved and sent for booking no later than at the time of closing.

  5. Gather documentation required for loan closing and coordinate all closings with Closing Team. Act as single point of contact for closing/funding/booking questions and clarifications needed by Closing Team.

  6. Ensure compliance with Flood Regulation and related internal policies at Origination and any other MIRE event.

  7. Contribute to Special Projects as assigned by Manager or GPMs

Reporting to the Group Credit Leader and responsible for leading a team of assigned Analyst, Underwriting & Portfolio Management teammates to deliver quality credit analysis and underwritings of credit transactions. Responsible for teams that manage the most complex and largest credit relationships and circumstances. Portfolios could entail clients with capital markets and specialized industry needs as well as specialty structural considerations. Leads the day-to-day operation of the designated team, focused on consistent execution of the credit process, related activities and behaviors. Assumes overall responsibility for all underwriting and portfolio management results within the team. Includes strategic decision making around structure of the team, hiring and recruiting, training need and development, system enhancements, etc. Responsible for executing strategic changes. Actively participates in, and may lead, action forces, projects, etc. aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness of the portfolio management organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the development and retention of engaged, industry leading teammates who are building critical skillsets to meet PM role expectations through regular 1x1 conversations, training, coaching and mentoring as well as inspection. Demonstrates leadership in developing and enhancing strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the organization.

  • Support revenue and return growth objectives through strong partnership and communication in the identification, screening, prioritization and consistent underwriting of opportunities. Oversees all underwriting activity in the portfolio and influences client acquisition decision by actively participating in screen meetings. Brings expertise to transactions. Actively manages pipeline for new and renewing opportunities, workflow and issue resolution, keeping all stakeholders proactively informed to ensure expected timelines are met.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Partner closely with Industry Consulting peers to ensure effective delivery of complex financing solutions to CCB clients through industry specific lens; responsible for maintaining extensive level of knowledge of Hospital & Higher Education Industries and commercial banking solutions, in addition to market trends and business drivers. Understands and articulates industry trends, patterns in the economy, and the implications thereof, and proactively shares information across the PM organization.

  • Owns the Portfolio Review meetings. Has an extensive and thorough knowledge of the group's portfolio as well as industry/market and is the primary point person for providing updates and guidance on issues and trends. Works closely with RPs and CRMs in proactively managing the portfolio and identifying industry trends.

  • Manages all internal and external portfolio reviews - Credit Review, QC, Internal Audit, SNC, and FRB exams.

  • Ensures on-time performance of portfolio management practices, such as annual reviews, financial spreads, compliance reviews.

  • Span of Control (include # direct reports): Span of control generally includes 7-10 direct reports.
