Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Through our Developing Professionals Network, interns gain mentorship, networking opportunities and lifelong career connections.

Our Site Investigation & Remediation Team is seeking an Environmental Remediation Intern - Fall 2024 to work out of the Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, Austin, TX or El Paso, TX office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2024 or later.

Your Impact

- Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.

- Learn basic principles of Environmental Remediation.

- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.

- Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.

- Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.

- Complete training on assigned tasks.

- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

- Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

- Actively enrolled in an accredited Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geologic Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program.

- Demonstrated interest in environmental remediation, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.

- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

- Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.

- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

- Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.

- This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

Preferred Qualifications

- Actively enrolled in an accredited Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geologic Engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program.

- Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.

Job Description

This Opportunity

Experienced senior-level project accountant professional providing accounting and financial specialist support to one or more Project Managers and/or project team(s). Develops project work breakdown structure, project budgets, margin analysis, and creates associated funding in Oracle for larger and/or more complex projects. Ancillary important tasks include evaluating project charges, completing cost transfers, ensuring that all project data in Oracle is up-to-date, generating robust project accounting reporting for infrastructure / transportation / professional services projects, and working with project leadership on recommendations for addressing problem project corrective strategies. Also works collaboratively with the Billing function and project managers on pre-billing information review, cost estimates, and invoicing. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards, supporting the delivery of future-ready solutions to clients.

Your Impact

  • For assigned project(s), manage and analyze the collection, recording, and allocating of project costs and revenue, ensuring accurate project profit and loss calculations, and communicating project financial performance and profitability to project/program management.

  • Responsible for lifecycle project accounting from creating project accounts in Oracle, to tracking projects and project budget, validating invoicing, project close-out, and reconciling overall project payables and receivables to project budgets.

  • Perform detailed and involved accounting tasks related to managing project contract, billing events and billing transaction exceptions revenue for larger and/or multi-faceted complex projects.

  • Partner with the Project Manager and project team to establish the project budget, updating budgets, and making project accounting recommendations as needed when contract modifications or budget changes arise.

  • Generate project financial reports and visualization, evaluating the reports for accurate presentation of data and findings, including developing analysis on labor breakage, cost trending or other various project related financial reports to be escalated for review by the Project or Finance Management.

  • Monitor and analyze revenue and unbilled balances to ensure proper revenue recognition.

  • Authorize access to project accounts, and the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts in compliance with established accounting practices and guidelines.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for generating accurate and precise project-related financial records using Oracle, spreadsheets, and software.

  • For assigned projects, apply learned accounting expertise relating to project resources, labor and expenses, investigating project variances and submitting variance reports to management.

  • Verify contract and change order characteristics for projects that are large and /or of a higher level of complexity, including reading and interpreting contract language, method of compensation, modifications, purchase orders, and subcontract/consultant terms.

  • Monitor key indicators for managing and analyzing problem projects, keeping project managers and/or project accounting manager informed on any noted concerns.

  • Responsible for ensuring draft invoices from billing are accurate based on the contract requirements agreed upon with the client, identify any corrections needed, obtain Project Manager documentation and signature, finalize the invoice approval with the Project Manager/billing team and submits the invoice to the client.

  • Subcontract management and coordination with Contract Administrators. This includes evaluating subcontractor invoice submittals for accuracy, establishes and maintains purchase orders for subconsultants, and requests and follows up on subcontractor payment requests with Accounts Payable.

  • Identify and record unpaid contract billings, following up on any delinquent accounts receivable and/or unbilled costs.

  • Respond to requests for more detail from clients, investigate all project expenses not billed to clients, and create or approve all project-related billings to clients.

  • Attend or coordinate project-related meetings to inform the team regarding the current status of project financials, articulating problem projects and following up on any identified actions as discussed.

  • Create and submit government reports related to projects.

  • Compile information for internal and external auditors and formal audit responses as required.

  • Work with cross-functional finance teams (e.g. Billing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Project Set-Up) in executing project work.

  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.

  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.

  • Mentor and/or train other project accountants and/or interns as needed, including reviewing of billing and project budgets to perform QA/QC.

  • Remain current in latest project accounting principles and subject matter.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or closely-related discipline (or demonstrated proven equivalent experience).

  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in accounting, project contracts and change management documents.

  • Proficient knowledge of project accounting principles, practices, and methods and their application to project work-related issues.

  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of accounting principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations and/or contract stipulations.

  • Ability to coordinate with various stakeholders and understand contract requirements, scope, and schedule.

  • Highly capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an accounting and non-accounting audience.

  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation and accounting software, technology, math principles, MS Excel, pivot tables, formulas, data format/sort/filter, VLOOKUP, predictive models, and tools.

  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply learned subject matter and technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

  • Ability to collaboratively and assertively work with others such as subcontractors, consultants, and clients on outstanding accounts receivables.

  • Awareness of and adherence to WSP USA's Project Delivery Handbook.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • This is a professional role and as such work deadlines and work hours may extend beyond a typical workday.

WSP USA Inc. has a unique opportunity for a Senior Consultant, Marketing to carve out specialty expertise leading and supporting pursuits in our Pacific Mountain region as part of our Strategic Growth Team. This person can be located in one of the following offices: Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Bend, OR; or Denver, CO . As an essential member of Pacific Mountain Strategic Growth Team, the person in this role will have the opportunity to build collaborative relationships with the other members of our SGT team, the region's technical experts, as well as our national business leaders.

  • Leading and supporting the pursuit life-cycle from lead generation and capture planning to proposal development and presentation coaching.

Minimum Qualifications (a.k.a. what you need from day one):

  • 5+ years of experience in marketing and proposal development in the AEC industry. Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, journalism or related field (or commensurate experience).

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign and demonstrated expeirence working with proposal layout.

  • Photoshop and Ilustrator experience are helpful, too, but not essential.

Provides professional accounting and financial specialist support to a project team, reviewing and evaluating project charges for accuracy, completing cost transfers, establishing and updating funding as needed, instituting and maintaining project budgets, and ensuring that all project data is current.   • Responsible for ensuring draft invoices from billing are accurate based on the contract requirements agreed upon with the client, identifying any corrections needed, obtaining Project Manager documentation and signature, and finalizing the invoice approval with the Project Manager/billing team and submits the invoice to the client.

  • Subcontract management and coordination with Contract Administrators. This includes evaluating subconsultant invoice submittals for accuracy, establish and maintain purchase orders for subconsultants, and request and follow up on subcontractor payment requests with Accounts Payable.

  • Identify and record unpaid contract billings, following up on any delinquent accounts receivable and/or unbilled costs.

Your Impact

  • Serve as project manager, deputy project manager, or technical task lead for projects, focusing on the analysis and authorship of planning, policy analysis, funding strategies, system requirements, concept of operations, strategic communications, and risk analysis and management of TSMO and other mobility technology projects.

Claims:

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President Geotechnical & Tunneling Engineer for our Cleveland, OH; Minneapolis, MN; Indianapolis, IN; Detroit, Lansing, or Novi, MI office. Your Impact

  • Manage a team of geotechnical and tunneling engineers including tracking active projects and budgets, delegating tasks, coordinating across disciplines within project teams, coordinating with subconsultants, reviewing work, and providing professional guidance.

  • Contribute to proposal and cost estimate development and track business development opportunities, both internally and externally.

  • Perform professional geotechnical engineering work including design for tunneling projects, subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, slope stability, and operations to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, construction, or operating permits for commercial, industrial, building, environmental, infrastructure, and transportation projects.

  • Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, soil/water/sludge/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.

  • Apply high-level geotechnical engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.

  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.

  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, drillers, and clients in a confident and professional manner.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering focus

  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and geotechnical design.

  • OH, MN, IN, or MI PE registration.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP"s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

The successful candidate will be involved in infrastructure projects in the Central region as well as projects across US. The position requires an effective team player who can work cooperatively to provide engineering services to its clients on design and construction projects.

Your Impact

  • Serve as geotechnical engineering director for subsurface exploration programs, design of foundations, retaining walls, and other geotechnical projects in Detroit, and other infrastructure (highway/railroad, water/wastewater, etc.) and building projects throughout Michigan and surrounding states.

  • Help lead the growth, innovation, and project delivery related to underground construction projects and client success for WSP's Geotechnical and Tunneling Technical Excellence Center.

  • Lead geotechnical engineering projects, including execution of design-build and design-bid-build projects with a multi-disciplinary team from across the country.

  • Lead business development, proposals, and client interviews; represent WSP at conferences/workshops as a technical lead.

  • Mentor geotechnical engineering staff and assist with technical challenges.

  • Develop new client relationships and enhance existing ones, including winning new work.

  • Collaborate with regional, district, and local office leaders to strategically drive the business, manage project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and meet operational metrics.

  • Assist WSP in attracting the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking including crafting a more attractive place to work, to help the business grow and thrive.

  • Develop plans, specifications, memoranda, special provisions, contract documents, and cost estimates.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Geological, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • Minimum of 12 years of demonstrated experience related to geotechnical engineering, including business development, analysis and design

  • Experience interpreting geotechnical data reports and providing geotechnical interpretive reports and/or geotechnical baseline reports

  • Ability to read, understand, and develop plans and specifications

  • Extensive working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials

  • Previous experience related to presentation of technical topics to clients

  • Excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities, and attention to detail

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets and schedules

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  • Registered engineer in Michigan or another U.S. State.

  • Candidate must be able to legally work in the US on a full time permanent basis
