Construction Inspection Specialist - WSP USA

Job Description

This Opportunity

Takes part in providing local technical and inspection support to the Resident Engineer on projects to ensure construction compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and codified requirements. Responsibilities involve performing field inspections on various assigned construction projects of moderate scale and/or complexity, including examining and evaluating the placement of concrete, installation of underground pipelines, earthwork and roadway paving, buildings, structures, systems, building materials, mechanical and electrical installations, foundations, and environment. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, functionality, and sustainability.

Your Impact

- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for field inspection activities.

- Use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections on projects of basic to moderate complexity and/or scope, including proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, construction, materials, controls, resources, layout, alignment, and elevation to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits.

- Follow standard practices to provide technical assistance that accounts for the proper inspection, construction, and functioning of buildings, highways, roads, bridges, structures, infrastructure, equipment, and/or mechanical systems according to design standard specifications.

- Verify load calculations, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, recognizing moderate to slightly intricate construction, engineering, or survey problems and escalating any differences, errors, or technical problems for appropriate resolution.

- Monitor project phasing plans and contractors' work to ensure quality control and contract compliance; documenting work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.

- Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.

- Attend pre-construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and other attendees.

- Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed.

- Ensure adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects, ensuring that material tests are performed, and materials meet required standards.

- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to inspection findings using electronic systems, written/oral feedback, photographs, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.

- Comply with client policies and procedures for inspection work under contract.

- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction.

- Work collaboratively with other professionals, scientists, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on assigned inspection phases, checks, and tasks.

- Engage in occasional contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspection.

- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

- High School Diploma.

- Minimum of 7 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior construction inspection experience.

- Valid state driver's license.

- Excellent construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.

- Knowledge of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.

- Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

- Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.

- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

- Capable critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

- Ability to provide input and feedback to others in the field such as subcontractors and work colleagues to consistently complete tasks safely, efficiently, and accurately according to specifications.

- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate's Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.

- Essential professional licensure/certification.

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Senior Coordinator, Early Career Program to support our Early Career Program talent initiatives. The candidate may sit out of any mutually agreed WSP US office. This position is a hybrid role requiring in office presence.

Your Impact

  • Provide full lifecycle recruitment support for our campus programs, internships, and graduate opportunities.

  • Partner with Regional Inclusion & Diversity committees and Senior I&D Leadership with strategy on connecting with university students as well as national organizations.

  • Build and maintain a pipeline of I&D junior talent to support business lines across the country.

  • Build talent pipelines for our Summer Internship Program while striving towards high conversion metrics for our new graduate opportunities.

  • Coordinate and facilitate all logistics associated with hosting on-campus or virtual activities at partner schools, including scheduling and conducting interviews, arranging receptions, activities, presentations with key clubs and organizations, etc.

  • In partnership with the Early Career recruiting team and the Developing Professionals Network, execute a 12 week Summer Internship Program that provides a holistic experience growing interns personally and professionally.

Required Qualifications

The individual will lead client-facing engagements in the design, implementation, and management of carbon market sourcing programs. Your Impact

  • Managing client relationships and directing client delivery teams

  • Leading business development activities with existing and prospective clients

  • Develop renewable energy and carbon offset criteria that establishes client prerequisites and preferences and aligns with leading frameworks

  • Develop technical specifications and manage request for proposal for clients sourcing renewable energy and carbon offsets or developing carbon removal programs

  • Leading the development of renewable energy and carbon market strategies to achieve decarbonization and net zero goals

  • Communicating changes in renewable energy and carbon markets to a range of audiences.

  • Complete technical due diligence of carbon offset proposals, including avoidance and carbon removal project types

  • Evaluate buy-side options for participation in carbon markets including short- and long-term procurements and direct project investment

  • Identifying and evaluating opportunities for carbon abatement; analyzing renewable energy purchase options

  • Developing and managing sustainability programs, in addition to related strategies and policies

  • Designing sustainability performance targets including science-based and net-zero GHG targets

  • Demonstrated experience with sourcing, developing, or assessing renewable energy credits and carbon offsets for leading organizations

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, maturity, credibility, confidence, and integrity

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate results via Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and related software and craft compelling presentations and reports

Your Impact

Provides technical assistance and guidance for the due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector. Assist with the research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, as well as protection and control systems in a wide variety of contexts (utilities, transportation, building, and Federal, State, and local government projects). Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding material, installations, component, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
