HNTB's Indianapolis office is seeking an engineer to join our growing traffic in our planning department to support the exciting development and deployment of intelligent mobility projects in Indiana. The ideal candidate is tech savvy, resourceful, and has a desire to be involved in a variety of complex, high-profile projects related to automated, connected, electric and shared vehicles and the data and tools that support widespread adoption and interoperability.
Interested parties should have an introductory knowledge of and some experience with the various technologies that contribute to the intelligent mobility field and their design, implementation, and evaluation. Experience in working with transportation data analysis and visualization, software development and modeling is also a critical skill.
This position assists with tasks for planning and implementing projects including research, systems engineering, design, and plan development, and coordinating with inter-disciplinary team members from concept development through project completion. It offers room for growth into leadership and management over our growing portfolio of emerging mobility technology projects. This position will also provide support for transportation planning projects that may involve the use of GIS tools, microsimulation modeling software and other traffic engineering tools.
What You'll Do:
Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
Responsible for preparation and/or modification for select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
Develops project quantities and assists with development of cost estimates.
Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
Able to self-sufficiently complete various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or
Master's degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience
What You'll Bring:
Exhibits proficiency in applying engineering, geometric and algebraic principles in your work.
Displays proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and MicroStation and/or AutoCad or other software as required for job assignments.
Development of concepts and requirements for emerging mobility systems, platforms, and applications.
Research and analysis of government and 3rd party data to support project design and evaluation. Specifically, assistance with connected vehicle data aggregation, analysis and visualization,
Generate planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software, or creation of model or code to manipulate data, assess scenarios and perform project analysis.
Mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback.

What You'll Do:
Responsible for preparation of, or assisting in development of, strategic plans for project success. Serves as the primary client liaison or the structural task discipline leader to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client's satisfaction. Estimates fees, determines scope of work, and prepares proposals and contracts on assigned projects.
Manages client's budget, schedule and program as well as HNTB's budget and schedule. Administers project communications and documentation. Oversees office administrative tasks and project team assignments. Drives and monitors project business metrics and quality to meet 4for4 performance.
Leads the coordination of all project efforts, both administrative and technical, to assure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects. Coordinates work efforts and reviews work performed.
Communicates project labor and resource needs to Office and Market Sector Leadership. Prepares documentation for Monthly Project Reviews (MPR's) with the office leadership team.
Develops creative structural design solutions from concept design through final design. Integrates quality control measures during all phases of design.
Provides structural engineering services and project leadership during bidding and construction phases of projects, including performance and oversight of submittal review, providing solutions to construction questions and coordination, and site observation.
Coordinates design and provides structural engineering technical direction with multi-disciplined architectural teams.
May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.

What You'll Do:

Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client's satisfaction. Assists with client project scoping and contract negotiations.
Performs technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
Implements the firm's project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
Performs coordination with managers on project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.

What You'll Need:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience
2 years task management or Deputy PM experience
What You'll Bring:
Management of traffic and transportation planning projects including development of scope, budget, schedule, and technical requirements.
Perform traffic modeling across a wide variety of projects utilizing software such as VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS
Application of "Big Data" in Transportation Planning including the use of platforms such as SteetLight, Replica, NPMRDS, INRIX, and HERE
Management of safety analysis tasks utilizing Highway Safety Manual (HSM) methodology. Familiarity with the Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM), the Enhanced Interchange Safety Analysis Tool (ISATe), and HSM spreadsheets.
Ability to mentor and train junior staff
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preparation of supporting documentation such as memorandums and technical reports.
Provide technical guidance to team and task leads as well as performing portions of the technical work.
Coordination with Local, State, and Federal Agencies
In addition to the tasks above, experience with the following is not required but a plus: Travel Demand Modeling, Transportation Management Plan development, and Interchange Justification Reports.

What You'll Do:
