The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $500 sign-on bonus to Shipfitter Trade Entry Level hires. Newport News Shipbuilding offers competitive pay, weekly paychecks, paid time off, paid holidays, medical benefits including an on-site health center, 401K company match, employee discounts, and more. Sign-on Bonuses are for new external hires only. Current Newport News Shipbuilding employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.

Fitters are often called the "carpenters" of shipbuilding or "Artists of Steel" because they need to read and interpret blueprints or plans to place, maneuver, or fabricate steel structures or hulls of ships. Fitters use a variety of tools to measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts as small as a fingernail to the large sub-assemblies and super lifts that form the structural body of a ship. Fitters also build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship.

Fitters at NNS attend and become qualified through the shipyard's state of the art welding school. Fitters are expected to climb and work in high areas, crawl and work in cramped, confined spaces, and perform tasks in all kinds of weather conditions. A fitter will apply their skills in various locations across the shipyard, including the shops, platens or concrete and metal structures, dry-docks, and onboard ships in support of new construction, ship repair, and ship overhauls.

The Role

The Submarine Engineering Advanced Capabilities team is looking for an Engineer Structural 4 in the development of the next generation Fast-Attack Submarine, SSN(X) submarine program. This is an opportunity, to join our growing team to contribute and influence the Navy's future, premier attack submarine platform. The selected engineer will be required to oversee several projects, as well as provide guidance and direction to the junior engineering staff. In addition, presentations to NNS senior leadership, Navy, and government technical warrant holders and SME's.

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

The candidate is to have a strong knowledge of submarine engineering and design requirements (Ship Specs), internal ship structure, foundations, and platform arrangement for submarines. The ability to apply technical principles, theories, and concepts, in the field of structural design and analysis is required. Experience in working in a collaborative environment to integrate the many ship systems and structural interfaces, with teams of engineers and designers of varying disciplines is desired. Looking for an individual with strong communication skills, particularly technical writing.

The Role

Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

The Role

Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances, removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. The Role

The Role

This position is for a south yard Mechanical Maintenance Foreman. This position provides mechanical maintenance service and repairs for conventional industrial machinery, Dry Docks and Piers in this area. The foreman provides oversight of maintenance services to a majority of CFA Shops, waterfront, production and administrative buildings located in the southern portion of the Plant. The Role

Fitters are often called the "carpenters" of shipbuilding or "Artists of Steel" because they need to read and interpret blueprints or plans to place, maneuver, or fabricate steel structures or hulls of ships. Fitters use a variety of tools to measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts as small as a fingernail to the large sub-assemblies and super lifts that form the structural body of a ship. Fitters also build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship.

Fitters at NNS attend and become qualified through the shipyard's state of the art welding school. Fitters are expected to climb and work in high areas, crawl and work in cramped, confined spaces, and perform tasks in all kinds of weather conditions. A fitter will apply their skills in various locations across the shipyard, including the shops, platens or concrete and metal structures, dry-docks, and onboard ships in support of new construction, ship repair, and ship overhauls.

The Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) FST at Sea Engineer is a member of the NCTE Fielding Functional Area staff in support of Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training events, the Navy Training Baseline (NTB), and the NCTE. The FST at Sea Engineer installs, maintains, and troubleshoots temporary (non-permanent change) fiber installations on ships that enable ship training system participation in distributed LVC training events.

The FST at Sea Engineer also provides expert operational and technical knowledge in regard to Aegis and Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) training system interfaces while in a distributed, synthetic training environment.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Install, configure, and troubleshoot FST at Sea non-permanent change (NPC) installations on U.S. Navy cruisers, destroyers, carriers, and amphibious ships.

- Investigate Aegis and SSDS shipboard capabilities and limitations as they relate to NCTE training interfaces.

- Draft point papers, presentations and other correspondence related to ship training system issues.

- Attend meetings as directed by NSWC Corona and the assigned NCTE staff.

The Network Engineer in this position will be the Functional Lead Alternate of a large team of network, communications, and systems engineers, as well as circuit planners, providing network support to dedicated enterprise Navy operational and training networks, under the engineering oversight of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division, as well as supporting the Live Mission Operations Networks (LMON), for the United States Air Force. Essential Job Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of senior/lead network, systems, and communications engineers of various expertise and disciplines, as well as circuit planners.

- Guide team members through the engineering project life cycle to Final Operating Capability.

- Develop the technical vision for network architecture and develop baseline standards, across various enclaves at different classification levels, to include monitoring the health and performance of the network, optimizing the networks, and as well as performing Life Cycle Management.

- Follow processes to update approved hardware and software baseline.

The Role

The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. The Role

Trains, examines and certifies nondestructive test (NDT) personnel, ensuring that NDT personnel are competent and qualified to perform the applicable tests in conformance with Company and contractual requirements. Provides technical support to resolve technical issues, as well as the development, interpretation, adaptation, qualification and implementation of specifications, procedures, processes, etc. Approves NDT procedures and workmanship standards, and ensures the adequacy of the program. Develops and administers NDT personnel training and certification programs. Provides counseling/corrective guidance regarding examination performance, and decertifies or retrains/tests personnel as appropriate. Conducts site monitoring/surveillance of NDT personnel and operations; evaluation of program elements; and product re-inspection activities. Interprets applicable specifications, procedures, and other technical requirements. Compiles and prepares technical and interpretive reports relating to NDT detected workmanship trends; analysis of reject rates; the resolution of problems; and the impact of methodology changes on manufacturing and inspection operations.

Current or previous Level II or Level III ASNT SNT-TC-1A certifications or equivalent (e.g., NAVSEA 250-1500-1) in VT, MT, PT, UT and RT methods are desirable. Experience in the areas of inspecting castings, piping, and structural parts is also desirable. Candidates are required to have all certification and training documentation. This position requires frequent travel (25% - 50%) to Newport News Shipbuilding suppliers to conduct NDT audits of critical component suppliers.

Must Have

This position requires a Bachelors degree in science or engineering.

However, 5 or more years of NDT technical experience (preferably in the shipbuilding industry), where a candidate has demonstrated an equivalent level of theoretical and applied knowledge, may be substituted for the above Bachelors degree requirement.

Within 2 years of assuming the NDT Test Examiner 2 position, the candidate must successfully obtain either a level III in ASNT TC1A or NAVESEA 250-1500-1 Test Examiner qualification.

A candidate must have and be able to apply a demonstrated knowledge of applicable NDT techniques and methods, as well as their physical, chemical and mathematical fundamentals.

This position requires proficiency in analytical processes and effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Candidates should have the ability to identify non-compliance issues and effectively communicate to the suppliers' NDT Test Examiners and senior management.
