The Role

The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $500 sign-on bonus to Shipfitter Trade Entry Level hires. Newport News Shipbuilding offers competitive pay, weekly paychecks, paid time off, paid holidays, medical benefits including an on-site health center, 401K company match, employee discounts, and more. Sign-on Bonuses are for new external hires only. Current Newport News Shipbuilding employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.
Fitters are often called the "carpenters" of shipbuilding or "Artists of Steel" because they need to read and interpret blueprints or plans to place, maneuver, or fabricate steel structures or hulls of ships. Fitters use a variety of tools to measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts as small as a fingernail to the large sub-assemblies and super lifts that form the structural body of a ship. Fitters also build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship.
Fitters at NNS attend and become qualified through the shipyard's state of the art welding school. Fitters are expected to climb and work in high areas, crawl and work in cramped, confined spaces, and perform tasks in all kinds of weather conditions. A fitter will apply their skills in various locations across the shipyard, including the shops, platens or concrete and metal structures, dry-docks, and onboard ships in support of new construction, ship repair, and ship overhauls.

Must Have
Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
Candidates must be able to:
Climb ladders and work at extreme heights.
Work in small, tight, or confined spaces.

The Role
The Submarine Engineering Advanced Capabilities team is looking for an Engineer Structural 4 in the development of the next generation Fast-Attack Submarine, SSN(X) submarine program. This is an opportunity, to join our growing team to contribute and influence the Navy's future, premier attack submarine platform. The selected engineer will be required to oversee several projects, as well as provide guidance and direction to the junior engineering staff. In addition, presentations to NNS senior leadership, Navy, and government technical warrant holders and SME's.
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is offering up to a $3500 sign-on bonus to Experienced Shipfitter (Fitter) new hires, with a minimum of 3 or more years of experience. In addition, NNS is offering up to $2000 in relocation to experienced TRADE new hires that live 50 miles or greater from Newport News, VA. Fitters are often called the "carpenters" of shipbuilding or "Artists of Steel" because they need to read and interpret blueprints or plans to place, maneuver, or fabricate steel structures or hulls of ships. Fitters use a variety of tools to measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts as small as a fingernail to the large sub-assemblies and super lifts that form the structural body of a ship. Fitters also build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship.
Fitters at NNS attend and become qualified through the shipyard's state of the art welding school. Fitters are expected to climb and work in high areas, crawl and work in cramped, confined spaces, and perform tasks in all kinds of weather conditions. A fitter will apply their skills in various locations across the shipyard, including the shops, platens or concrete and metal structures, dry-docks, and onboard ships in support of new construction, ship repair, and ship overhauls.

The Role
Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. The Role

The Role
This position is for a south yard Mechanical Maintenance Foreman. This position provides mechanical maintenance service and repairs for conventional industrial machinery, Dry Docks and Piers in this area. The foreman provides oversight of maintenance services to a majority of CFA Shops, waterfront, production and administrative buildings located in the southern portion of the Plant. The CFA Shop maintenance includes M31, M32, M33, M42 and the Foundry. Extensive troubleshooting and mechanical knowledge on a diverse and complex asset base is required.
Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $1000 sign-on bonus to Shipfitter Trainee hires. Fitters are often called the "carpenters" of shipbuilding or "Artists of Steel" because they need to read and interpret blueprints or plans to place, maneuver, or fabricate steel structures or hulls of ships. Fitters use a variety of tools to measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts as small as a fingernail to the large sub-assemblies and super lifts that form the structural body of a ship. Fitters also build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship.
Fitters at NNS attend and become qualified through the shipyard's state of the art welding school. Fitters are expected to climb and work in high areas, crawl and work in cramped, confined spaces, and perform tasks in all kinds of weather conditions. A fitter will apply their skills in various locations across the shipyard, including the shops, platens or concrete and metal structures, dry-docks, and onboard ships in support of new construction, ship repair, and ship overhauls.

The Role
Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Candidates for this position will contribute to the team by utilizing in-house software tools to reverse engineer hardware assets provided by the U.S. government. During the analysis, engineers will identify common hardware structures like embedded processors, DSPs, filters, transceivers, data links, and decoders and determine the operational parameters they were designed for. Candidates will be exposed to and learn about design techniques across a variety of domains such as cybersecurity, electronic warfare, encryption, radar, and satellite communications.
The ideal candidate will have experience with hardware design and verification. We are particularly looking for candidates familiar with FPGA design (Quartus, Vivado, ISE), embedded system design, EDA tools (synthesis, P&R, simulation, formal verification), and/or microcontrollers. Experience with hardware hacking, side-channel attacks, and failure analysis is also valued in this position.

The Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) FST at Sea Engineer is a member of the NCTE Fielding Functional Area staff in support of Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training events, the Navy Training Baseline (NTB), and the NCTE. The FST at Sea Engineer installs, maintains, and troubleshoots temporary (non-permanent change) fiber installations on ships that enable ship training system participation in distributed LVC training events.
The FST at Sea Engineer also provides expert operational and technical knowledge in regard to Aegis and Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) training system interfaces while in a distributed, synthetic training environment.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot FST at Sea non-permanent change (NPC) installations on U.S. Navy cruisers, destroyers, carriers, and amphibious ships.
- Investigate Aegis and SSDS shipboard capabilities and limitations as they relate to NCTE training interfaces.
- Draft point papers, presentations and other correspondence related to ship training system issues.
- Attend meetings as directed by NSWC Corona and the assigned NCTE staff.

The Role
Inside (CNC) Machinists operate various machines (manual and/or CNC) such as; lathes, mills, vertical machining centers, horizontal boring mills, etc. Inside machinists troubleshoot operations and take appropriate actions to correct. The machinists perform quality inspections, verifying dimensions of work piece are in accordance with drawing specifications.

The Role
Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. The Role
Trains, examines and certifies nondestructive test (NDT) personnel, ensuring that NDT personnel are competent and qualified to perform the applicable tests in conformance with Company and contractual requirements. Provides technical support to resolve technical issues, as well as the development, interpretation, adaptation, qualification and implementation of specifications, procedures, processes, etc. Approves NDT procedures and workmanship standards, and ensures the adequacy of the program. Develops and administers NDT personnel training and certification programs. Provides counseling/corrective guidance regarding examination performance, and decertifies or retrains/tests personnel as appropriate. Conducts site monitoring/surveillance of NDT personnel and operations; evaluation of program elements; and product re-inspection activities. Interprets applicable specifications, procedures, and other technical requirements. Compiles and prepares technical and interpretive reports relating to NDT detected workmanship trends; analysis of reject rates; the resolution of problems; and the impact of methodology changes on manufacturing and inspection operations.
Current or previous Level II or Level III ASNT SNT-TC-1A certifications or equivalent (e.g., NAVSEA 250-1500-1) in VT, MT, PT, UT and RT methods are desirable. Experience in the areas of inspecting castings, piping, and structural parts is also desirable. Candidates are required to have all certification and training documentation. This position requires frequent travel (25% - 50%) to Newport News Shipbuilding suppliers to conduct NDT audits of critical component suppliers.
Must Have
This position requires a Bachelors degree in science or engineering.
However, 5 or more years of NDT technical experience (preferably in the shipbuilding industry), where a candidate has demonstrated an equivalent level of theoretical and applied knowledge, may be substituted for the above Bachelors degree requirement.
Within 2 years of assuming the NDT Test Examiner 2 position, the candidate must successfully obtain either a level III in ASNT TC1A or NAVESEA 250-1500-1 Test Examiner qualification.
A candidate must have and be able to apply a demonstrated knowledge of applicable NDT techniques and methods, as well as their physical, chemical and mathematical fundamentals.
This position requires proficiency in analytical processes and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Nice to Have
Candidates should have the ability to identify non-compliance issues and effectively communicate to the suppliers' NDT Test Examiners and senior management.
