Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Gathers patient information in the function areas of payment planning, insurance verification and treatment records. Works independently with general supervision in order to pre-register all scheduled patients for services to be rendered, verifying insurance benefits and obtaining pre-certifications as required.

Essential Job Functions

*Registers patients; Verifies insurance with patients.

*Answers inbound phone calls from patients; Schedules patients accurately within guidelines and protocols.

*Scans copies of all registration forms and insurance cards and other required forms into EHR.

*Contacts insurance companies for benefit information and obtains information regarding copayments/deductibles to be collected at time of service.

*Contacts physician offices for necessary pre-authorizations as required.

*Enters correct patient data into the computer terminals and makes corrections to errors in records as necessary

*Collects deposits on patient accounts and balances cash drawers; Collects outstanding balances due; Answers questions about patient bills.

*Utilizes screening and determination forms to assist eligible patients in obtaining financial aid.

*Assists with arranging transportation for indigent patients.

*Distributes patient information packets to new patients prior to initial visit.

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

Essential Job Functions

- Functions as the scrub person and assists as trained during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.

- Prepares and organizes sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure and performs surgical counts with the circulating RN according to policy.

- Maintains an organized sterile field and ensures the sterility of the field by taking corrective action as needed. Assists with the placement of sterile drapes. Provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure and maintains aseptic technique.

- Retrieves and collects specimens and labels specimens appropriately and correctly.

- Reports any implanted devices, catheters, drains, and packing to the circulator.

- Provides complete case preparation and knows, with the ability to adapt, of special instruments, supplies, and equipment needs for patient populations.

- Demonstrates knowledge of patient's rights and responsibilities according to the patient's age and understanding.

- Demonstrates understanding of patient's Advance Directives.

- Assists in CPR as needed.

- Assists with pre and post-procedure cleaning of the operative or invasive procedure room and necessary instruments.

- BSMH Surgical technologists are expected to practice and deliver care in accordance with the core concepts and intention of the BSMH policy.

- Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification opportunities.

- Participates in financial accountability by utilizing resources in a cost-conscious manner and offers performance improvement initiatives.

- Participates in all patient safety care measures.

- Prepares and performs surgical skin prep and clipping as indicated by procedure. Inserts urinary catheter as required.

Cardiac Medical Stepdown Unit (CMSU): is a small stepdown unit which takes patients requiring close monitoring and includes interventions like BIPAP, titrating cardiac drips, high acuity sepsis and surgical patients. Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifying and determining the priority of patient's problems/needs, and evaluating the process and outcome of nursing care, all in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. The RN coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

  • Utilizes the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document any critical findings in accordance with department policy.

  • Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner I is responsible for providing respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. Performs all respiratory care procedures including but not limited to oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services and patient and staff education.   • May serve as a preceptor to new team members and/or students.

  • Assesses patient's physical status by inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, patient behavior and reviewing existing data in patient's record.

  • Performs treatments according to physician orders, explains therapy and therapeutic goals to patient; modifies treatment procedures based on patient response.

  • Determines appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommends methods to physician to achieve therapeutic goals including IPPB, Aerosol therapy, Postural drainage and percussion, ultrasonic nebulizer, incentive spirometry, metered dose inhalers and spacers, etc.

  • Sets up and maintains different modes of oxygen therapy, to maintain adequate PaO2's with accurate inspired levels of oxygen.

  • Administers intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or Aerosol Therapy by first preparing the prescribed medication ordered by the physician and adjusting the machine or device to accomplish patient's individual clinical needs; document and observe patient's vital signs, productivity of cough, relief of Dyspnea, improved breath sounds and any adverse reactions to therapy; and use judgement and technical skill to determine possible adverse reactions and suggestions for appropriateness of therapy.

  • Gives postural drainage, vibration, percussion to ensure proper drainage of bronchial secretions by use of manual or mechanical percussion; check orders and X-rays for segments to be treated prior to initiating treatment; auscultation prior to and after procedure to note presence of clearance of secretions and response to therapy.

  • Instructs patients and families in incentive spirometer, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, postural drainage and clapping, oxygen therapy, ventilator care and home aerosol therapy.

  • May assist doctor with bronchoscopy and tracheostomy; assists with tracheostomy endotracheal tube changes; ensures proper humidification.

  • Procurement of sputum for culture and sensitivity or airway clearance either by patient coaching, administration of mucolytics, aerosol therapy or endotracheal / nasopharyngeal suctioning.

  • Evaluates normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges.

  • Performs arterial punctures and analysis; has an in-depth knowledge of analysis and arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation. Performs arterial line procedures, takes safety precautions, sterile procedure, flushing, and ABG aspirations.

  • May perform EKG's; understands electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias.

  • Maintains all Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies.

  • Responds to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and actively participates as indicated by clinical circumstances.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction of the MRI Supervisor and according to established protocols and procedures and the directions of a Radiologist, operates MRI scanner to obtain filmed

images for use by physicians in diagnoses and treatment of pathologies. Provides care to neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Must have completed two years of post high school training in an approved school of radiologic technology.

  2. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.

  3. Must have analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of MRI techniques and methods and knowledge of cross sectional anatomy.

  4. Previous MRI experience preferred.

  5. Work requires six months on-the-job training to acquire necessary familiarity with MRI procedures, techniques and methods.

  6. Registration, Certification or Licensure Requirement: ARRT registered. Current BLS Certification. MRI registry preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Performance

  1. Interviews patient to determine patient eligibility for MRI exam (example: pacemaker, vascular clips, foreign bodies, hearing aid). Fills out patient eligibility sheet and gets patient signature for consent before starting exam.

  2. Examines patient's charts to be aware of suspected pathologies and appropriate clinical history while conducting exam. Takes standard radiographs as necessary for preliminary exam.

  3. Administers injections of contrast media for examinations following established sterile techniques and methods.

  4. Operates scanner's computerized controls and enters commands necessary to visualize and manipulate screen images. Operates various peripheral equipment such as optical disc drive.

  5. Manipulates MRI image through computerized controls to obtain best possible images.

  6. Operates Laser Imager to reproduce appropriate screen images on film. Ensures films are of acceptable diagnostic quality and completeness.

  7. Maintains required files and records and prepares periodic statistical reports, such as number and types of exams performed for supervisor's review.

  8. Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs as needed. Ensures necessary maintenance and repairs are completed in an efficient and timely manner.

  9. Schedules MRI examinations in order to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment.

  10. Requisitions, stores and inventories approved supplies in assigned area, such as linen, syringes, needles, contrast media and so forth.

  11. Instructs and demonstrates MRI equipment operation, filming and other technical aspects for radiology students and Radiology or Medical Center personnel.

  12. Assists physicians doing invasive sterile technique procedures.

SUMMARY

This position supports the day-to-day administration of Bon Secours Mercy Health's (BSMH) defined benefit plans.

Primary duties include:

  • Interface Maintenance : all activities needed to ensure effective transmission of data between BSMH data source and retirement recordkeeper sources

  • Database Management : all activities needed to ensure member data maintained by the retirement recordkeeper is suitable for pension administration purposes, and where appropriate to perform tasks necessary to serve participants whose information is incomplete or not housed within the pension database

The position requires a strong working knowledge of retirement plans. This includes plan design, legal requirements, administrative practices, and other activities common to the oversight of retirement plans. The Sr. Retirement Specialist must quickly develop a thorough knowledge of BSMH retirement plans, related system parameters, and general administrative processes. All job duties must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the supporting, day-to-day contact to the providers responsible for BSMH defined benefit administration

  • Serve as contact for HR Services Center, Payroll and other HR staff requiring retirement plans assistance

  • Support execution of the plan and tactical requirements to implement changes to BSMH ongoing retirement plan strategy

  • Assist with plan information and guidance as outlined in the various plan documents to BSMH staff as required

  • Assist in continuous auditing and correction of data elements necessary for smooth administration of the retirement plans and continued compliance

  • Assist/consult on invoicing processing related to the retirement plans budgets

  • Audit manual retirement calculations completed by providers when required, assisting with continued automation of calculations by the respective third-parties

  • Assist in documenting processes and procedures necessary to comply with financial audits, compliance audits, the annual plan valuation, completion of form 5500 and other required documents

  • Assist in the review and implementation of retirement plan processes, procedures, and system improvements internally with HR, Payroll and IT, and externally with providers

  • Monitor and troubleshoot issues that may arise in administration of the retirement plans, including the various interfaces with providers. Coordinate with the appropriate HR and Payroll departments resolution to data edits and discrepancies

  • Research historical plan data and plan provisions when needed

  • Maintain an understanding of benefit-related legislation requiring policies, procedures and audits; work with legal counsel and consultants to ensure regulatory compliance

  • Create and perform various queries and reports using third-party provider tools and internal HRIS system tools for the daily administration of the plans and for special requests

  • Coordinate and/or participate in calls with BSMH staff and providers when necessary to resolve issues, exchange/clarify information, and/or implement changes

  • Support the System Director - Retirement, and the Retirement Manager with research and analysis as needed

Performs various general duties and assists in the provision of patient care of all age groups as directed by the Registered Nurse and Organizational Leadership. Provides direct care for patients, answers call lights, performs clerical/courier/transporter functions. Collects data through a variety of means including observation and through the use of instrumentation. Recognizes and communicates pertinent information to multidisciplinary teams to ensure prompt attention to patient and departmental needs.

Essential Functions

Assist patients with measures of comfort and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, feeding, toileting, dressing, and grooming.

Assist patients with mobility by performing active and passive range of motion, lifting, turning, repositioning, ambulation, and transportation.

Performs routine patient care as delegated by the Registered Nurse including but not limited to obtaining specimens, recording vital signs, applying ice/heat/compress/ dressings, intake/output, point of care testing, 12 lead EKG, and reapplying monitors. May perform CPR. Explains procedures to patients allaying apprehension and eliciting cooperation. May assist in restraining combative patients.

Performs tasks and procedures independently after successful performance with a RN or ONLY under the direct supervision and responsibility of a RN including but not limited to changing peripheral IV site dressings, phlebotomy, removal of peripheral IV's, inserting and/or removing urinary catheters, performing simple trach care, administering non-medicated enemas, performing oral suctioning, changing ostomy appliances and performing ostomy care, and assisting with transferring patients to a higher level of care.

Assists nursing team in the process of admitting, transferring, and discharging patients, including notifying appropriate individuals and departments, assembles patient charts and related paperwork, assisting and performing environmental orientation of patients, preparing, stocking, cleaning of rooms, documenting historical information, and securing belongings and valuables.

Clerical skills/duties including but not limited to courier services, answering phones/call lights and orders, obtains, stocks, places, tests, discontinues, and removes patient equipment and supplies.

Communicates and Documents pertinent patient and general information and services provided.

Identifies, troubleshoots, and works with others as applicable to resolve issues and concerns.

Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.

Education Qualifications

Required Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Licensure/Certification Required:

CPR

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

Must be currently enrolled in a professional school of nursing and have successfully completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical experience, or be within 90 days post graduation.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Must be currently enrolled in a professional school of nursing and have successfully completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical experience and be CPR certified. Maintains and Demonstrates competency in required clinical skills/competencies. Demonstrates computer literacy and basic technological abilities or completion of basic computer class. Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions and patient information. Accurately reporting and documenting data and services provided. Good Interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team and patients in a manner that fosters the team concept and supports the core values of the organization. Must be flexible and able to adapt to change and constant interruptions, with the ability to set and meet deadlines. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities while working in a fast paced, environment.

Combination of post-secondary education and experience in lieu of a degree.
