Harmonized - Sterile Processing Technician - Mary Immaculate Hospital

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician Non-Certified, under general supervision, will inspect, clean, assemble, test, and processes patient care equipment, supplies, and instruments according to established policies and procedures and according to manufacturer's instructions for use. They will act in accordance to sterility per the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), The Joint Commission (JCAHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and state standards of practice. Primary duties may vary depending on area assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs decontamination functions including manual cleaning and processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment according to manufacturer's instructions for use.

  • Applies proper knowledge of various detergents and chemical disinfectants for use in the decontamination and removal of blood, bone, and other body tissues from contaminated surgical equipment. Adheres to standard precautions while performing cleaning and sterilization duties.

  • Inventories, stocks, and delivers supplies, carts, equipment to all facility areas as indicated per facility guidelines. Orders, restocks, labels, and maintains proper inventory levels. Rotates stock, inspecting for outdates per market requirements.

  • Performs and documents quality control aspects of sterile processing using various information technology systems focusing on instrument tracking, surgery schedules, surgeon preference cards, supply ordering and management. Accurately maintains comprehensive quality assurance standards related to sterilization and infection control.

  • Operates and understands various sterilizers and sterilizing techniques required to produce sterile packages for use in the surgical setting keeping package assembly aseptic protocols in mind. Monitors sterilization regularly ensuring quality assurance through chemical and biological indicators and integrators.

  • Documents all activities as required within the outlined processes and reports variances that may affect the outcome of sterile products or patient care and safety.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

Required Licensing & Certifications:

  • One of the following is required: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) (certification required within 2 years after hired) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) (certified required within 2 years after hire) (required)

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Manager of Imaging manages and coordinates the daily operations of all assigned areas. They will oversee imaging services in a manner that optimizes patient, associate, and physician experience. They will maintain a productive work environment and will meet professional, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The Manager also collaborates effectively with imaging personnel, inter-disciplinary departments, facility leadership, Director of Imaging, and Medical Director of Imaging.

-Plans and conducts regular and specialized in-service training programs; maintains clinical affiliation with radiologic technology training program(s). Orients and provides in-service training and continuing education opportunities to department associates to ensure their continued technical proficiency.

-Develops, recommends and administers department operating and capital expense budgets and ensures that department(s) operates within budget; identifies and implements appropriate cost-effective measures on a continuous basis. Recommends the acquisition, use and organization of available resources to ensure the provision of radiology services

-Determines and recommends the number of staff members needed to provide high-quality, economic service and ensures that staff members are qualified and competent. Manages patient flow/load and technologist hours to meet patient and facility needs. Assures delivery of quality radiology services; available for consultation with medical, nursing and administrative staff to coordinate patient care. Collaborates with other departments and physicians in the facilities to ensure exceptional care.

-Serves as a resource for all Radiology personnel. Able to assist in imaging areas as needed

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The RN Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Bon Secours Mercy Health including those for patient assessment and transfer. The primary function of this job, based on hiring tier, is to be available and flexible to float to various departments, and sites throughout the markets within Bon Secours Mercy Health to provide patient care, which could include but not limited to scheduling day of staffing, more than one assignment location within a single shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns. Participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of a clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse.

Job Summary:

Education:

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Special Procedures Technologist will assist the Licensed Practitioner in the completion of fluoroscopic and specialized interventional and Neuro-Interventional procedures while using sterile technique. Insurance Authorization Specialist - Full-Time, Outpatient PT/OT/ST

Position acts as the central liaison between outpatient therapy and managed care payors to obtain and track required authorization for upcoming therapy services; the associate is expected to maintain current knowledge of payer authorization requirements for outpatient therapy services. The Manager is responsible for coordination of the clinical activities for cardiovascular services across the continuum of care to include overall direction and management for the service line. II. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A graduate of accredited school of nursing. Masters Degree preferred.

  2. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or awaiting reciprocity preferred.

  3. ACLS required

  4. Work requires knowledge of operation of department and nursing care techniques and methods. Possess knowledge generally acquired through three to five years of experience as a professional nurse with the progressively more responsible experience in appropriate specialty area.

  5. Previous work experience in a supervisory or charge nurse position that required knowledge of financial management and personnel supervision and practice.

implementation of department policies, strategic initiatives, etc.

IV. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs essential job functions of the Cardiac Cath Lab nurse, Holding Are Nurse, and other health care providers within the Cath lab department while working with operational leaders to coordinate the continuum of care.

  2. Participates in professional development activities and is active on hospital-wide Committees as appointed by the VP, Heart & Vascular Institute

  3. Responsible for appropriate staff and available for additional duties as needed.

V. WORKING CONDITIONS:

* The Progressive Cardiac Intermediate Unit is a 35 bed-unit and is an intermediate/ICU step down unit. St. Joseph has recently opened a new cath lab and is currently doing diagnostics but will soon be doing interventions. The post-op cath lab patients will be housed on this unit until time of discharge. This unit has the ability to handle patients that are trached and on a ventilator. You will utilize your critical thinking skills while seeing patients with a higher acuity of illnesses. Some of those examples would be as follows: Sepsis, NSTEMI, Cardiac drips (ex: Cardizem) for irregular heart rhythms, Chest Pain, Kidney Failure, Respiratory Failure patients needing BiPAP/CPAP care. Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifying and determining the priority of patient's problems/needs, and evaluating the process and outcome of nursing care, all in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Job Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner III is responsible for providing respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education and evaluation. Performs all respiratory care procedures including but not limited to oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services and patient and staff education. Monitors the patient's response to such therapies and makes recommendations to change or modify based on the assessment.

Essential Functions:

  • May provide clinical instruction and/or in-service training to department staff, other healthcare team members, and students.

  • Provides support to clinical learning through mentorship, clinical rounds and practice evaluation provides clinical leadership for the advancement of professional respiratory practice to staff in the intensive care, general care, and outpatient services.

  • Provides feedback for coaching and performance evaluations of team members.

  • Assists with identifying quality improvement initiatives and design programs that provide measurable outcomes. Leads clinical research initiatives ensuring education, training, and implementation of the study design.

  • May be responsible for data collection and accurate record keeping as well as product evaluation and assessment.

  • Actively participates in facility councils and committees.

  • Serves as the shift -Charge Therapist- with responsibility of ensuring adequate number of respiratory care staff to cover patient care areas and needs. This may include assigning respiratory care staff to work areas and/or work assignments, modifying work assignments, assisting with meal coverage, fielding call offs and providing adequate staffing levels for the next shift.

  • May assist physician performing procedures such as bronchoscopy, transtracheal catheter insertion, tracheotomy in intubation (if intubation is performed by respiratory therapy in the facility), and invasive monitoring.

  • Performs CPR including closed chest compressions and airway management techniques in accordance with the AHA ACLS protocol.

  • Conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve maintenance of a patient airway, including use of appropriate airways including endotracheal tubes, nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal airways, maintenance of airway humidification, aspiration of secretions, extubation, maintenance of correct ETT cuff pressures and documents procedures in patient and department records.

  • Selects, assembles, monitors and evaluates mechanical ventilators for proper function and operation, including correction of malfunctions, cleanliness and determines appropriateness use for patient condition.

  • May perform pulmonary function tests (PFT).

  • Serves as a preceptor to new team members and/or students.

  • Assesses patient's physical status by inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, patient behavior and reviewing existing data in patient's record.

  • Performs treatments according to physician orders, explains therapy and therapeutic goals to patient; modifies treatment procedures based on patient response.

  • Determines appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommends methods to physician to achieve therapeutic goals including IPPB, Aerosol therapy, Postural drainage and percussion, ultrasonic nebulizer, incentive spirometry, metered dose inhalers and spacers, etc.

  • Sets up and maintains different modes of oxygen therapy, to maintain adequate PaO2's with accurate inspired levels of oxygen.

  • Administers intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or Aerosol Therapy by first preparing the prescribed medication ordered by the physician and adjusting the machine or device to accomplish patient's individual clinical needs; document and observe patient's vital signs, productivity of cough, relief of Dyspnea, improved breath sounds and any adverse reactions to therapy; and use judgement and technical skill to determine possible adverse reactions and suggestions for appropriateness of therapy.

  • Gives postural drainage, vibration, percussion to ensure proper drainage of bronchial secretions by use of manual or mechanical percussion; check orders and X-rays for segments to be treated prior to initiating treatment; auscultation prior to and after procedure to note presence of clearance of secretions and response to therapy.

  • Instructs patients and families in incentive spirometer, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, postural drainage and clapping, oxygen therapy, ventilator care and home aerosol therapy.

  • Procurement of sputum for culture and sensitivity or airway clearance either by patient coaching, administration of mucolytics, aerosol therapy or endotracheal / nasopharyngeal suctioning.

  • Evaluates normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges.

  • Performs arterial punctures and analysis; has an in-depth knowledge of analysis and arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation. Performs arterial line procedures, takes safety precautions, sterile procedure, flushing, and ABG aspirations.

  • May perform EKG's; understands electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias.

  • Maintains all Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies.

  • Responds to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and actively participates as indicated by clinical circumstances.

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position:

Performs various general duties and assists in the provision of patient care of all age groups as directed by the Registered Nurse and Organizational Leadership. Performs tasks and procedures independently after successful performance with a RN or ONLY under the direct supervision and responsibility of a RN including but not limited to changing peripheral IV site dressings, phlebotomy, removal of peripheral IV's, inserting and/or removing urinary catheters, performing simple trach care, administering non-medicated enemas, performing oral suctioning, changing ostomy appliances and performing ostomy care, and assisting with transferring patients to a higher level of care.

Assists nursing team in the process of admitting, transferring, and discharging patients, including notifying appropriate individuals and departments, assembles patient charts and related paperwork, assisting and performing environmental orientation of patients, preparing, stocking, cleaning of rooms, documenting historical information, and securing belongings and valuables.

Clerical skills/duties including but not limited to courier services, answering phones/call lights and orders, obtains, stocks, places, tests, discontinues, and removes patient equipment and supplies.

Communicates and Documents pertinent patient and general information and services provided.

Identifies, troubleshoots, and works with others as applicable to resolve issues and concerns.

Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.

Other duties as assigned.
