Responsibilities
Serves as the Executive Director for a single community and has additional responsibility for overseeing the business operations at additional communities in the same geographic area.
Responsible for all operations of all communities under span of control, acting as a contact for all staff, residents, prospects, community organizations, government agencies and the public.
Partners to develop long-range objectives and strategies for each community within the area.
Supervises, directs, and motivates staff. Maintains superior training and morale. Ensures training programs are effectively executed.
Maintains high degree of resident satisfaction and retention through consistent delivery of high quality services at home community and ensures same for communities within assigned area. Provides leadership for staff and residents to include pro-actively solving problems and resolving issues. Administers annual resident satisfaction survey.
Develops annual operating and capital budgets for assigned communities. Aggressively anticipates and minimizes negative budget variances and deficits. Meets and exceeds budget occupancy goals for the property. Continually explores means of revenue enhancement and expense reduction.
Hires, trains, disciplines and terminates associates in accordance with company policies. Reviews hires, promotions, disciplinary actions and termination of employment of associates with attention paid to consistency in the selection and retention of quality personnel. Provides leadership in these areas for communities within assigned areas.
Develops and maintains a positive image with community. Becomes active in social and civic affairs of the local community. Utilizes sales and marketing activities and strategies to maximize occupancy.
Assists in developing and conducting service plan reviews, as required by state codes, with appropriate resident care team members and resident families.
Visits assigned communities regularly to ensure buildings, grounds and properties are up to company standards through the oversight of preventative maintenance systems and programs, and frequent inspections that meet company standards of excellence.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special RequirementsState license as a nursing home administrator and/or Assisted Living License. Valid driver's license required. Some states require specific licensure and certification. These guidelines must be met for each state for which the Area Director has responsibility.
Management/Decision MakingUses strong analytic skills and an in-depth understanding of the organization and the business in order to handle arising problems and issues. Solves diverse problems using solid analytical skills where limited precedents/guidelines exist.
Knowledge and SkillsHas an advanced knowledge of the organization, industry, and a functional discipline. Extensive understanding of technical areas gained through experience and used to complete and/or oversee assignments. Understanding of legal requirements impacting skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. Understanding of sound business practices and approaches for analyzing general and specific operational issues. High degree of initiative and creative, good judgment, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to motivate. Ability to operate personal computers and related software.

Responsibilities
Manages the day-to-day clinical services of a more complex community to ensure residents' healthcare needs are met. Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity and ensures quality care as residents' healthcare needs change. Requirements to be a Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities
Responsible for providing quality dining experiences by overseeing dining room staff and maintaining a pleasant and clean dining environment.
Manages daily operations of dining room, room service, and convenience store, if applicable.
Assigns wait staff to designated sections and all staff to appropriate side work. Inspects work to ensure proper completion.
Ensures room service orders are delivered timely and properly.
Ensures smooth and timely opening and closing of the dining room.

Responsibilities
Provides direct supervision of care giving within the community. Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity recognizing individual needs and encouraging independence. Fosters a homelike atmosphere throughout the community.
Provides direct supervision of resident care staff, which includes monitoring job performance, collaborating with community leadership on associate performance evaluations, coaching and counseling associates and conducting and documenting corrective action as needed.
Coordinates training and education of resident care staff on an ongoing basis.
Verifies all associate hours on time cards and weekly hours report. Completes nursing schedules to assure proper coverage to meet resident needs and according to budget. This includes arranging replacement staffing when necessary and maintaining clear records of all changes, requests and irregularities.
Observes residents health status, takes actions to address concerns within scope of practice, and reports all significant changes, reactions to medications and treatment or significant incidences to Health and Wellness Director (or designee) in a timely manner.
Assists the Health and Wellness Director (or designee) in medication management, ordering medication from pharmacy and maintaining records as dictated in Brookdale Senior Living policies and procedures manual. Assures that medications are properly stored, medication carts/cupboards are cleaned and medication room is organized according to standards.
If within scope of practice, may administer medication to residents; may review capabilities of residents who self-administer medications on a regular basis (refer to state regulations regarding medication assistance and documentation).
Monitors staff in administration of medication, to include frequents audits of medication administration records (MAR).
Observes residents, records significant reactions, and notifies community leadership of resident's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Responds promptly to all emergency calls from residents.
Communicates to families regarding resident's personal needs and achievements. Reminds families of need for scheduled physician, dental, or eye appointments. Assigns vital signs to associates and monitors compliance. Assures in-house ancillary medical services such as podiatrist, doctor visits, psych visits, labs, x-ray, ambulance, etc. are scheduled and followed through.
Assists in organizing and developing service plan reviews as required, with appropriate resident care team members and resident families.
Participates in the maintenance of resident charts including review of documentation performed by resident assistants, monthly MAR reviews, setting up new resident and thinning records appropriately.
Participates in department quality improvement activities, to include completion of quality assurance surveys as assigned by community leadership.
Performs daily, weekly and monthly safety and infection control checks of the home and grounds, assisting the community leadership for resident health and safety purposes.
Participates in community functions including family socials and open houses. Communicates with community professionals.
Shares on-call duties as required.

Maintains positive communication with local fire Marshall, building inspector, state elevator inspector, and any other jurisdictions governing the community.
Assesses all plumbing and electrical problems within the community and determines the best course of action to correct the problem. Works within the legal scope of local and state codes.
Reviews safety data sheets (SDS) as requested for potential exposure to hazardous chemicals used and take necessary precautions.
Assess property damage and file property damage claims in accordance with company policy.
Responds appropriately to resident or community emergencies by assisting as needed.

For assisted living or memory care communities, ensures collaborative relationship with community clinical leader to ensure community's care and services are appropriate to meet the needs of residents. Oversees resident services including the admission process, healthcare management, and maintenance of resident documentation to ensure high quality services and compliance with Company policy and applicable legal requirements. Empowers department leaders to demonstrate the same for their area. Qualifications

Maintains positive and understanding relationships with current residents and their family. Encourages their positive promotion of community to friends, acquaintances and family. Conducts personal tours of communities for prospective residents and family. Schedules meetings with staff department heads as requested or as deemed necessary to effectively convince potential residents of abilities to meet their residential and care needs. Explains fee structure in a manner that will be most meaningful and that will clearly reflect the benefits of prospective resident's choices. Explains the physical and financial assessment processes to prospects and coordinates required staff interviews and credit checks.
Closes contractual arrangements. Communicates availability of units and status of waiting lists. Obtains necessary personal information and prepares standard, legal documents required for signature. Provides direct supervision of care giving within the community. Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity recognizing individual needs and encouraging independence. Fosters a homelike atmosphere throughout the community.

Communicates to families regarding resident's personal needs and achievements. Reminds families of need for scheduled physician, dental, or eye appointments. Assigns vital signs to associates and monitors compliance. Assures in-house ancillary medical services such as podiatrist, doctor visits, psych visits, labs, x-ray, ambulance, etc. are scheduled and followed through.
Assists in organizing and developing service plan reviews as required, with appropriate resident care team members and resident families.
Participates in the maintenance of resident charts including review of documentation performed by resident assistants, monthly MAR reviews, setting up new resident and thinning records appropriately.
Participates in department quality improvement activities, to include completion of quality assurance surveys as assigned by community leadership.

Manages the Brookdale at Home (Home Care Agency) associated with a Brookdale Senior Housing community. The home care agency's average monthly service hours provided are typically between 700 and 2000 hours. Provides direct management of all Brookdale at Home (Home Care Agency) associates, which is typically 10 to 20 associates, including a BAH Scheduler Coaches, counsels, disciplines, and completes performance evaluations for staff. Ensures service plan reviews are conducted, consistent with applicable legal requirements, with appropriate clinical care team members and resident families to maintain the personal dignity of residents.
Demonstrates a high degree of financial acumen as it relates to community operations. Analyzes, develops, and executes annual operating and capital budgets; works to meet or exceed budgeted revenue, profitability, and occupancy goals. Proactively creates plans to overcome unanticipated expenses or revenue shortfalls. Continually explores means of revenue enhancement and expense reduction, while meeting the needs of residents and adhering to Company policies and applicable regulations.
Drives sales and marketing efforts in collaboration with the community sales leader to meet or exceed occupancy or revenue targets by developing new business, generating leads, and building strategic relationships. Engages with prospects who tour the community. Identifies trends and works with sales leader to implement approved sales and marketing activities and strategies to maximize revenue (RevPAR).
Identifies and builds positive relationships with local influencers and professionals to raise community profile. Becomes active in social and civic affairs of the local community that align with the Company's mission. Represents the community and the Company to governmental agencies (as appropriate), professional organizations, community groups, and other appropriate public agencies and groups.
Ensures buildings, grounds, and property are up to Company standards through the oversight of preventative maintenance systems and programs and frequent inspections that meet Company standards of excellence.
Enforces current Company policies and procedures. Maintains applicable licenses in accordance with Company, Federal, State, and local requirements.

Qualifications
Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree required. Minimum of three years related in operational leadership experience required. Additional years of experience can be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special RequirementsMust have a valid administrator license in states where required. Must have a valid driver's license and access to a private vehicle for business use.
Management/Decision MakingUses strong analytic skills and an in-depth understanding of the organization and the business in order to handle arising problems and issues. Demonstrates leadership ability to be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of resident care, marketing, food service, housekeeping, and maintenance units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities, including managing department leaders, in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws.
Knowledge and SkillsHas an advanced knowledge of the organization, industry, and a functional discipline. Extensive understanding of technical areas gained through experience and used to complete and/or oversee assignments. Familiarity with Microsoft software preferred. Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential. Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks is essential. Ability to delegate assignments to the appropriate individuals based on their skills, roles, and interests. Success in driving results. Successfully demonstrates good judgment, strong problem solving, and decision making skills.
