Responsibilities

Oversees daily operations of the kitchen and ensures the highest quality food products. Directly supervises and trains kitchen personnel on all related culinary activities.

  • Oversees breakfast, lunch and dinner for quality assurance of meal presentation and portion control.

  • Selects recipes, prepares and coordinates all meals. Coordinates prep for the following day's menu.

  • Creates new dishes and develops recipes, standardizing recipes to ensure consistent quality. Establishes presentation technique and quality standards. Plans, modifies and develops menus.

  • Performs a pre-meal meeting with food servers to review detail of daily menu.

  • Ensures an adequate number of culinary associates each shift and ensures absences are covered.

  • Estimates food consumption and requisitions food purchases. Monitors and maintains inventory.

  • Assists in the adherence to maintaining budget compliance for daily food costs.

  • Assists in applying appropriate loss prevention procedures.

  • Assists in hiring, training, scheduling, disciplining and terminating associates. Provides training for all kitchen staff.

  • Assists in the coordination and execution of special events.

  • Maintains kitchen cleanliness and food preparation according to state and local health department code requirements. Ensures all kitchen equipment is in working order and kept clean at all times. Oversees the proper inventory, storage and use of cleaning chemicals. Keeps waste to a minimum by utilizing food storage and food recycling techniques.

Qualifications

Education and ExperienceAssociate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from two year college or technical school. Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special RequirementsServSafe Certified. Obtain/hold any local, state and/or county required food handling/sanitation licenses and/or certificates.

Management and Decision MakingApplies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department. Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness or a combination of these.

Knowledge and SkillsPossesses extensive knowledge of a distinct skill or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment. Has working knowledge of a functional discipline. Effective customer service skills and the ability to lead and supervise a diverse group of people. Ability to coordinate the daily production of menus, recipes and food preparation. Capable of managing multiple job tasks including the preparation of several foods at the same time. Excellent cooking skills and an understanding of food preparation principles, ingredients and culinary terminology. Ability to modify and develop creative recipes and menus that are healthy and satisfying to the residents. Ability to understand and apply sanitation principles.

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the health care programs and activities at the community. Assumes the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of these.

  • Reviews community policies and procedures periodically (minimum of one a year), and makes changes as necessary to ensure continued compliance with current regulations (i.e. ADA, ergonomic, air quality, etc.).

  • Represents the community in dealings with outside agencies, including governmental agencies and third party payers, or provides an authorized representative of the community when unable to attend meetings.

  • Makes routine inspections of the community to ensure established policies and procedures are being implemented and followed. Makes written and oral reports and recommendations to the Executive Director concerning the operation of the community.

  • Assists in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related functions to ensure that tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded.

  • Reviews and develops a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provides a written copy of such plan to the governing board and ombudsman representative as required.

  • Serves on various committees of the facility (i.e., Infection Control, Quality Assurance & Assessment, etc.) and provides written/oral reports of committee meetings to the governing board, as directed or necessary.

  • Assists in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified quality deficiencies.

  • Delegates administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to other staff personnel, as deemed necessary, to perform their assigned duties.

  • Consults with department directors concerning operations to assist in eliminating/correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services.

  • Reviews and checks competence of workforce and makes adjustments /corrections as required or necessary.

  • Assists department directors in the planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes, on-the-job training, and orientation programs to ensure the current materials and programs are provided.

  • Reviews and interprets monthly financial statements for responsible departments.

  • Reviews resident complaints and grievances and makes written reports of actions taken. Discusses with resident and family, as appropriate.

  • Reviews safety data sheets (SDS) as requested for potential exposure to hazardous chemicals used and take necessary precautions.

  • Assess property damage and file property damage claims in accordance with company policy.

  • Responds appropriately to resident or community emergencies by assisting as needed.

Plans, coordinates, and implements monthly prospect and/or referral source activities and events. Partners with Regional Sales management to develop and execute marketing plans and achieve community occupancy goals. Supervises the activities of at least two Full-time Equivalent (FTE) Marketing Coordinator(s) and/or Sales Counselor(s) to achieve the desired results of the community marketing and business plans.

Contact sources include legal and financial professionals, senior organizations, appropriate special interest groups, hospital discharge planners, skilled nursing facilities, retirement communities, clergy, medical insurance providers, and other local community contacts.

Adheres to procedures in the development of advertising materials by working with Brookdale's Creative Services group.

  • Monitors conversion ratios regarding Business Development calls to direct referrals, prospect calls, and tours and collects and analyzes data to prepare weekly and monthly reports. Provides frequent sales performance issue information to Regional Sales management.

  • Maintains working knowledge of the lead management system and uses system to maximize sales effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Performs on-site evaluations of residents admitted to alternate care environments for treatment, and maintains contact with resident families with the intent of returning resident to Brookdale.

  • Performs ongoing assessment/observation of residents' physical and psycho-social needs and coordinates with other departments to assure quality, proactive care.

  • Evaluates residents; documents changes in condition, and notifies executive director, physician, and resident's legally responsible party/family of resident's condition and reactions. Prepares Physician Visit Form and reviews and updates resident chart.

  • Facilitates continuity of care for those residents receiving home health care, hospice services, and other third party healthcare- related services.

  • Participates in or leads meetings relevant to resident care issues, such as Service Plan meetings, involving appropriate parties as needed.

  • Ensures in-house ancillary medical services such as podiatrist, doctor visits, dental visits, psych visits, lab, X-ray, ambulance, etc. are scheduled and followed through.

  • Participates in department quality improvement activities.

  • Assists in keeping the environment safe for associates to reduce the occurrence of Workers' Compensation claims by appropriately evaluating resident transfer and mobility needs and involving therapy services as indicated.

  • Shares on-call and manager on duty responsibilities/shifts as required.

  • Strengthens clinical process within the community until permanent replacement is identified.

Manages the associates responsible for the general operating maintenance and repair of the buildings and grounds to maintain proper care of the assigned community(s) in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards/regulations and company policies.

  • Assesses all plumbing and electrical problems within the community and determines the best course of action to correct the problem. Works within the legal scope of local and state codes.

Job Summary

In alignment with Brookdale's Resident and Family Engagement philosophy, plans, coordinates and facilitates a calendar of person centered dementia friendly programs that meet specific needs of each and all residents within the dementia care community. Provides person centered programs while engaging residents in meaningful and purposeful dementia care programs within the Brookdale community enhancing their quality of life. Essential Functions

  • Designs a 7 day a week person centered program that is engaging, creative and meets the needs and interests of the individual residents. Promotes and engages residents in the 7 domains of well-being programs in a dementia friendly structured environment; including sensory focused small group programming for residents who cannot participate in a larger group setting.

  • Develops a monthly calendar, in partnership with residents, based on residents' shared interests. Ensures person centered special events and daily path programs are scheduled and executed as scheduled.

  • Ensures dementia care programs are in compliance with Brookdale Excellence Standards Tool (BEST), Divisional Dementia Care Site visit tool, state, federal, and other regulations and meet Brookdale's mission, policies, procedures and dementia care standards as assigned by the Executive Director.

  • Collaborates with community leadership educating & providing resources to families and associates regarding Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. This includes how to engage residents and lead programs on an ongoing basis. Under administrative direction, manages the community's budget and financial operations.

  • Manages the forecasting, analysis, and reconciliation of the annual budget process for assigned community(s). Distributes and communicates corporate templates and information requests from corporate to department heads, and meets to obtain and discuss budget proposals for the coming year. Applies financial models, evaluates forecasted numbers, and obtains explanations and justifications from department heads relating to significant increases and decreases from previous periods. Partners with department heads to scrutinize planning based upon prior activity, occupancy levels, financial models, etc. Conducts cost/benefit analysis for proposed spending.

  • Incorporates corporate NOI expectations into budget planning. Identifies and discusses potential enhancements and obstacles in meeting expected numbers.

Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices including the concepts of financial modeling, budget preparation, administration, and proper cash handling procedures.
