Responsibilities

Responsible for developing and providing short-term tactical direction and oversight. Develops short-term improvements impacting an area. Directs the overall operations of an assigned group of communities within a geographic region. Oversees a revenue of $20-60 Million.

  • Develops long-range objectives and strategies for each community within the region.

  • Develops annual operating budget, including census, payroll, staffing and capital forecasts. Monitors and assesses compliance with financial forecasts, productivity and goal achievement. Determines areas needing cost reduction and program improvement and implements changes as needed through the Executive Directors at each community.

  • Implements company-wide programs at communities in the areas of dining, asset management, finance, human resources, and other operational areas. Enhances appropriate communication between the communities and the divisional/corporate offices.

  • Works with community management to implement sales and marketing activities and strategies to maximize occupancy.

  • Assures that resident services reflect the highest quality in conformance with federal and state law and company standards. Enhances the quality of resident care by working with the functional team members in nursing, life enrichment, dining services, housekeeping and maintenance as needed.

  • Evaluates, monitors, and enhances public relations efforts at each community.

  • Assists all regional offices with preparation for state survey and licensing.

  • Assures that all regional communities conform to qualitative and quantitative operating standards.

  • Directly supervises and evaluates performance of Executive Directors within region. Updates, trains, and coaches staff as necessary to maintain high standards of quality care, financial accountability and business growth.

  • Influences change in a positive manner within the assisted living industry through involvement with trade associations, regulatory agencies, and state executive and legislative officials.

  • Partners with regional and community operations teams to oversee the overall health and safety program and practices for the region and maintain a safe environment for the residents, associates and families.

Qualifications

Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Gerontology, Business or other related field required. Minimum of seven to ten years experience in Operations, Marketing, Financial Planning and Human Resources Management in a management role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special RequirementsFrequent car travel requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Ability to work some evenings/weekends and travel frequently by air or car.

Management/Decision MakingMakes analytical decisions and is accountable for all actions made by a department or group. Uses a high degree of analytical ability using sound judgment acquired through significant experience to solve complex and varied problems that could result in substantial loss of reputation.

Knowledge and SkillsHas significant knowledge of an advanced discipline with a working knowledge of related fields. Has significant knowledge of the organization, work environment and process. Has knowledge to direct multiple functions and /or departments with full responsibility for operational results. High degree of accuracy in all assignments, ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Must understand the older adult market. High degree of initiative and creativity, good judgment, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to motivate. Ability to operate personal computers and related software.

Qualifications

Requirements to be a Maintenance Technician

Maintenance Technicians will maintain scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on, but not limited to: HVAC, elevator, fire and sprinkler equipment, generators, landscape, kitchen equipment and emergency pull cord equipment. Maintenance Technicians will also perform general maintenance projects as scheduled or assigned and respond to maintenance requests by community directors and residents in both private rooms and public living areas. They will also maintain positive communication with local fire marshal, building inspector and any other jurisdictions governing the community.

Responsibilities

Leads the day-to-day operations of a large, complex community with over 200 units and multiple product lines, including a skilled nursing facility. Is responsible for the community's associate relations, resident and resident family engagement and connection, financial performance, and regulatory compliance. Creates and executes the business plan and develops the team to become the preferred senior living community in the market, while growing revenue and profitability in partnership with the district team.   • Develops and implements business plan to become the highest performing senior living community in the local market. Manages community performance against goals; works with department leaders to meet business goals. Understands and communicates the community's staffing needs and is responsible for overseeing the recruiting and onboarding process; works with department leaders to ensure associates are appropriately trained and developed to meet the needs of residents. In consultation with department leaders, reviews promotions, development plans, disciplinary actions, and termination decisions to ensure consistency in the selection and retention of quality associates. Works with department leaders to analyze trends and implement strategies to reduce turnover and increase retention.

  • Builds high degree of resident satisfaction and retention. Is responsible for maintaining positive resident relations and is accessible and approachable to residents and their families. Empowers community management to proactively solve resident problems and resolve issues. Works with appropriate department leaders to leverage satisfied residents and families to grow community occupancy and to execute renewal program with existing residents. Partners with Resident Council as necessary. Leads the effort to administer resident satisfaction and other surveys and to create plan to address opportunities for improvement in resident satisfaction, experience, and engagement.

  • Creates and maintains collaborative relationship with community and skilled nursing clinical leaders to ensure community's care and services are appropriate to meet the needs of residents. Collaborates with clinical leaders to oversee resident services including the admission process, healthcare management, and maintenance of resident documentation to ensure high quality services and compliance with Company policy and applicable legal requirements. Ensures clinical leaders conduct service plan reviews, consistent with applicable legal requirements, with resident families to maintain the personal dignity of residents.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of financial acumen as it relates to community operations. Drives results and proactively shares best practices and ideas with department leaders to analyze, develop, and execute annual operating and capital budgets; works to meet or exceed budgeted revenue, profitability, and occupancy goals. Strategizes with department leaders and district team to minimize negative budget variances and deficits and to proactively create plans to overcome unanticipated expenses or revenue shortfalls. Continually explores means of revenue enhancement and expense reduction, while meeting the needs of residents and adhering to Company policies and applicable regulations.

  • Drives sales and marketing efforts in collaboration with the community sales leader to meet or exceed occupancy or revenue targets by assisting to develop new business, generate leads, and build strategic relationships. Engages with prospects who tour the community. Identifies trends, strategizes effective methods for increasing occupancy, and empowers sales leader to implement approved sales and marketing activities and strategies to maximize revenue (RevPAR).

  • Identifies and builds positive relationships with local influencers and professionals to raise community profile. Becomes active in social and civic affairs of the local community that align with the Company's mission. Represents the community and the Company to governmental agencies (as appropriate), professional organizations, community groups, and other appropriate public agencies and groups.

  • Oversees proper maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and property and ensures maintenance department is working to keep property up to Company standards; ensures proper oversight of preventative maintenance systems and programs and frequent inspections that meet Company standards of excellence.

  • Enforces current Company policies and procedures and holds department leaders accountable for doing the same. Maintains applicable licenses in accordance with Company, Federal, State, and local requirements.

Qualifications

  • Develops a monthly calendar, in partnership with residents, based on residents' shared interests. Ensures person centered special events and daily path programs are scheduled and executed as scheduled.

  • Ensures dementia care programs are in compliance with Brookdale Excellence Standards Tool (BEST), Divisional Dementia Care Site visit tool, state, federal, and other regulations and meet Brookdale's mission, policies, procedures and dementia care standards as assigned by the Executive Director.

  • Collaborates with community leadership educating & providing resources to families and associates regarding Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. This includes how to engage residents and lead programs on an ongoing basis. This includes facilitating and coordinating dementia focused in-services and or events for families or computer based and situation specific training for associates including Understanding Alzheimer's & Dementia Care (UADC), as required by Brookdale.

  • May provide direct supervision of Clare Bridge Program Assistant/s, as required by Executive Director, which includes assisting with hiring, coaching, and counseling program assistant associate and conducting the documenting corrective action, as needed. Completes job performance evaluations. May act in supervisory capacity in absence of Manager or Executive Director.

  • Collaborates with community leadership in planning, coordinating, appropriately decorating, and participating in special events including holidays, signature programs, National Walk to End Alzheimer's, family socials, educational and marketing events.

  • Reports changes in residents' overall health to clinical partner, including changes in behavior; takes actions to address concerns in a timely manner and collaborates with the team in exploring approaches and interventions to address behavioral expressions.

  • Oversees social media content to ensure alignment with Brookdale's culture, brand, and social media guidance and Brookdale standards.

  • Plans and schedules programming events outside the community, which may include driving a community motor vehicle.

  • Maintains and adheres to department monthly budget and expense control and may manage volunteer program.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the buildings and grounds to maintain proper care of the assigned community(s) in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards/regulations and company policies.

  • Directs the community maintenance, housekeeping and laundry (if applicable) staff, to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, resolving disciplinary issues and firing.

  • Directs the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds through maintenance staff. Inspects completed work for conformance to standards and policies.

  • Implements preventative maintenance programs. Coordinates compliance with local, state and federal building codes, SDS, OSHA, EPA regulations, and fire codes.

  • Coordinates engineering contractors and vendors, making sure insurance and licenses are current.

  • Conducts regular inspections of life safety systems, including fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems.

  • Coordinates annual apartment maintenance schedule and completion. Oversees necessary repairs and maintenance in apartments and common areas including refurbishment for move-ins.

  • Ensures the outside of the property is maintained, including landscaping, snow removal, and garbage/trash removal.

  • Prepares and follows approved budget. Tracks utility consumption and expense files.

  • Maintains inventory control for all general supplies, parts and equipment for necessary repairs and maintenance. Maintains all required engineering files.

  • Assesses all plumbing and electrical problems within the community and determines the best course of action to correct the problem. Works within the legal scope of local and state codes.

  • Reviews safety data sheets (SDS) as requested for potential exposure to hazardous chemicals used and take necessary precautions

  • Assess property damage and file property damage claims in accordance with company policy.

  • Responds appropriately to resident or community emergencies by assisting as needed.

  • Maintains office, shops and mechanical areas within company standards.

Overview

The Area Director of Operations will oversee successful operations of six Brookdale senior living communities located throughout Houston. This assignment supports large independent living communities on beautiful properties.

Prior multi-site operations experience managing larger properties in the hospitality, independent living or senior housing industries is required.

Responsibilities

Directs the overall operations of an assigned group of communities within a geographic area.

  • Develops long-range objectives and strategies for each community within the region.

  • Develops, in partnership with Executive Directors, annual operating budget, including census, payroll, staffing and capital forecasts for assigned communities. Monitors and assesses compliance with financial forecasts, productivity and goal achievement. Determines areas needing cost reduction and program improvement and implements changes as needed through the Executive Directors at each community.

  • Implements company-wide programs at communities in the areas of dining, asset management, finance, human resources, and other operational areas. Enhances appropriate communication between the communities and the divisional/corporate offices.

  • Works with community management to implement sales and marketing activities and strategies to maximize occupancy and develop a positive image of assigned communities.

  • Maintains high degree of resident satisfaction and retention through consistent delivery of high quality services for communities within assigned area. Provides leadership for staff and residents to include pro-actively solving problems and resolving issues.

  • Evaluates, monitors, and enhances public relations efforts at each community in support of Net Promoter Score assessment.

  • Assists in developing and conducting service plan reviews, as required by state codes, with appropriate resident care team members and resident families.

  • Assures that all regional communities conform to qualitative and quantitative operating standards.

  • Directly supervises and evaluates performance of Executive Directors within a specified area. Hires, trains, disciplines and terminates associates in accordance with company policies. Reviews hires, promotions, disciplinary actions and termination of employment of associates with attention paid to consistency in the selection and retention of quality personnel. Provides leadership in these areas for communities within assigned areas.

  • Influences change in a positive manner with the assisted living industry through involvement with trade associations, regulatory agencies, and state executives and legislative officials.

  • Offers hands on partnership through regular visits to assigned communities to oversee the overall health and safety program and practices for the district area and maintain a safe environment for the residents, associates and families.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Gerontology, Business or related field required. Minimum of five years' experience in Operations, Marketing, Financial Planning and Human Resources Management in a management role.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements

Frequent car travel requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Ability to work some evenings/weekends and travel frequently by car.

Makes analytical decisions and is accountable for all actions made by a department or group. Uses a high degree of analytical ability using sound judgment acquired through significant experience to solve complex and varied problems that could result in substantial loss of reputation.

Knowledge and Skills

Has significant knowledge of an advanced discipline with a working knowledge of related fields. Has significant knowledge of the organization, work environment and process. Has knowledge to direct multiple functions and/or departments with full responsibility for operational results. High degree of accuracy in all assignments, ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Must understand the older adult market. High degree of initiative and creativity, good judgment, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to motivate. Ability to operate personal computers and related software.

Responsibilities

  • Leader primarily responsible for the business office operations of the community.

  • Responsible for attracting, engaging, developing and retaining the community associates necessary to provide high quality care and personalized services to our residents, while minimizing the use of premium labor (in conjunction with HR department in a CCRC).

  • Supports Executive Director in driving profitable growth and complying with operational processes and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensures effective communication with associates, residents, families, vendors and other visitors to the community.

  • Ensures that residents are properly billed for services provided and leads the timely collection of receivables.

  • Responsible for overseeing payroll process to ensure that associates are paid correctly.

  • Ensures that vendor invoices for goods or services to the community are billed appropriately and are processed for payment on a timely basis. Supports an inclusive community culture.

  • Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school required; or additional years of experience can be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Minimum of three years related experience and/or training. Previous managerial and office setting experience preferred.

May also directly supervise another department.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day healthcare operations of the community to ensure resident's healthcare needs are met.

  • Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity and ensures quality care as resident's healthcare needs change.

  • Ensures consistent quality resident care and service delivery throughout all shifts; this may require assuming the role and responsibilities of a Caregiver or Med Tech/Aide in order to meet the residents' needs and staffing requirements.

  • Assists in the supervision of community-based licensed nursing staff, medication technicians/CMA's, and Caregivers and provides training and education to Caregivers on an ongoing basis to include classroom in-services and situation-specific training. In addition, they will also manage the associates schedules.

  • Oversees and manages the continuity and consistency of medication training, pharmacy management and medication supervision and/or administration in the community. Conducts periodic Care Associate medication skills inventory checks, and periodic medication audits per Brookdale Guidelines .

  • Shares on call duties as required.

  • Education as required to obtain state nursing license (LPN/LVN or RN) and a minimum of 1-2 years relevant experience.

  • LPN or LVN license.
