Job Description

Title: Principal Architect, Science + Technology

Location: California

AECOM seeks a Science + Technology Regional Lead for our Buildings + Places leadership team to drive the growth of professional services related to our science and technology market.

This leader will bring subject matter expertise in planning, design and delivery of innovative laboratory facilities, as well as a focus on business development and growth.

In this role, you will nurture a multi-disciplinary team of Architects, Engineers, Advisors Strategists and Consultants across the region and multiple offices, within a national and global community of experts committed to delivering efficient, equitable and inspiring science and technology projects. Our expectation is that this hire will be an effective 'seller-doer' responsible for executing professional project work, winning new work, cultivating client relationships, and growing AECOM's portfolio of world-class science and technology work. This position is supported by our regional and national operational and technical teams, reporting to the U.S. West Regional Director of Growth, and collaborating with the Science + Tech Market leaders throughout the company.

Core Responsibilities:

Design Leadership:

  • Choreograph a multidisciplinary practice of design, technical, management, business development, and marketing/communications professionals.

  • Lead and inspire junior and mid-level architectural and engineering staff within the company, as well as partner/sub-consulting design firms.

  • Offer design creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving routine and unusual problems, articulating objectives and requirements, organizing programs and project approaches, and developing standards and guidelines.

  • Exemplify passion for design excellence, authenticity, and trustworthiness.

Business Development:

  • Lead pursuits and develop winning strategies for new projects.

  • Initiate and maintain contacts with key clients, organizations, and peer/partner companies.

  • Provide thought leadership on key programs and national initiatives.

Practice Building:

  • Nurture a collaborative team environment, fostering innovation and excellence across all project phases.

  • Mentor and develop the next generation of design and technical professionals within the team.

  • Exhibit skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues, guiding projects to successful outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Architecture plus 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years in a leadership/mentorship role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in a leadership role with an Architecture, Engineering or consulting firm focused on Science + Technology projects.

  • At least 5 years of recent experience as a proven rainmaker in the Design and Building industries, demonstrating exceptional work-winning capabilities and driving business growth as a key player in business development efforts.

  • Strong relationships with regional S+T clients

  • Professional License as Architect (RA, AIA) or Planner (AICP).

  • LEED and/or Well accreditation

  • Strong communication and leadership skills with a visible presence in local market as a recognized subject matter expert through speaking engagements, papers/publications, etc.

  • Strong vision, voice, and work samples that demonstrate design excellence

  • Proficiency in software: Revit, Autocad, MS Excel, and Word and PowerPoint

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $180,000.00 - $250,000.00.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • 15 years of experience in a leadership role with an Architecture, Engineering or consulting firm focused on Science + Technology projects.

  • At least 5 years of recent experience as a proven rainmaker in the Design and Building industries, demonstrating exceptional work-winning capabilities and driving business growth as a key player in business development efforts.

  • Strong relationships with regional S+T clients

Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a full-time Natural Resources Biologist III for immediate employment within our Southern California Natural Resources Group. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects and career opportunities in a dynamic and flexible working environment. This hybrid position is primarily office-based, though some field work may be required and can be based in any of our Southern California offices including San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange or Long Beach.

This position would support numerous natural resource projects in the southern and central California region with a focus on leading preparation of Biological Assessments, Habitat Conservation Plans, technical reports, and other regulatory compliance and permitting efforts including CEQA/NEPA, 404/401, CESA, and ESA resource agency consultation.

Primary duties include authoring on complex technical documents for large-scale projects, developing permitting strategies for clients, synthesizing compiled datasets, collaborating with a large team of technical experts, and task management. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background and advanced writing skills and is interested in moving towards a Project Management trajectory. Familiarity with Sections 7 and 10 of the federal Endangered Species Act, 2081 permitting under the California Endangered Species Act, NEPA, CEQA, and the Clean Water Act are required. A 10(A)(1)(a) permit for listed species local to southern California is preferred (but not required), including species such as coastal California gnatcatcher, desert tortoise, and/or southwestern willow flycatcher amongst others. Additional duties may include financial management tasks and team coordination/leadership. Position will support multiple project managers on a variety of types of projects including utility, military, transportation, and renewable energy sectors.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Conduct writing assignments, including completing Biological Technical Reports, Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, Natural Environment Studies, Biological Assessments, and/or EIR/EIS sections.

  • Operate as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects.

  • Possess knowledge of major state and federal agencies (e.g., USACE, USFWS, BLM, CDFW, RWQCB, and CCC) and major regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, CFGC, CWA and CCA as well as knowledge of regional conservation planning (i.e., MSCP, MHCP, MSHCP) and apply to assigned tasks.

  • Support proposal efforts.

  • Work under supervision of senior project managers or senior-level team members.

  • Ability to independently manage projects or tasks and/or oversee project teams.

  • Ensure assigned tasks stay on schedule and budget.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver.

  • Perform assignments that require background in wildlife ecology and/or botany and ecological processes.

  • Conduct biological survey fieldwork as part of a team and alone in coastal, inland, and desert environments.

We are looking for a candidate to work as part of our East Region Dams Practice located in our Germantown, Maryland office as Senior Structural Dam Safety Engineer. This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career advancement opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to dam project managers, including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.

  • Perform detail checks and quality reviews of other Engineer's work.

  • Perform dam analysis and design such as structural stability and strength analysis of concrete dams and appurtenant structures (spillways, outlet works, and other site civil structures).

  • Prepare structural evaluation reports, drawings, and specifications for dam projects.

  • Communicate with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to dams and other hydraulic structures.

  • Prepare structural drawings and visual aids through coordination with CAD team.

  • Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and codes.

  • Successful completion of the Principles of Engineering (PE) exam.

Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a full-time Natural Resources Biologist III for immediate employment within our Southern California Natural Resources Group. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects and career opportunities in a dynamic and flexible working environment. This hybrid position is primarily office-based, though some field work may be required and can be based in any of our Southern California offices including San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange or Long Beach.

This position would support numerous natural resource projects in the southern and central California region with a focus on leading preparation of Biological Assessments, Habitat Conservation Plans, technical reports, and other regulatory compliance and permitting efforts including CEQA/NEPA, 404/401, CESA, and ESA resource agency consultation.

Primary duties include authoring on complex technical documents for large-scale projects, developing permitting strategies for clients, synthesizing compiled datasets, collaborating with a large team of technical experts, and task management. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background and advanced writing skills and is interested in moving towards a Project Management trajectory. Familiarity with Sections 7 and 10 of the federal Endangered Species Act, 2081 permitting under the California Endangered Species Act, NEPA, CEQA, and the Clean Water Act are required. A 10(A)(1)(a) permit for listed species local to southern California is preferred (but not required), including species such as coastal California gnatcatcher, desert tortoise, and/or southwestern willow flycatcher amongst others. Additional duties may include financial management tasks and team coordination/leadership. Position will support multiple project managers on a variety of types of projects including utility, military, transportation, and renewable energy sectors.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Conduct writing assignments, including completing Biological Technical Reports, Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, Natural Environment Studies, Biological Assessments, and/or EIR/EIS sections.

  • Operate as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects.

  • Possess knowledge of major state and federal agencies (e.g., USACE, USFWS, BLM, CDFW, RWQCB, and CCC) and major regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, CFGC, CWA and CCA as well as knowledge of regional conservation planning (i.e., MSCP, MHCP, MSHCP) and apply to assigned tasks.

  • Support proposal efforts.

AECOM is seeking passionate talent with a customer focused mindset for Overnight and Evening Safety Service Patrol Operator positions in Virginia Beach, VA. These positions will be a direct report to the Safety Service Patrol (SSP) Supervisor and Management Team with direct public and multi-agency communications. Starting pay is $20.00hr.

About this Opportunity

Virginia's DOT Safety Service Patroller's play a key critical role in safeguarding motorists traveling the interstates by ensuring roadways are clear of debris, reporting highway maintenance issues and assisting stranded motorists. Our SSP program operates 7 days a week, 365 days per year, serving a critical role in the delivery of safety and mobility to the motoring public.

As this is a 24/7/365 operation center, schedules are dictated by operational need and stated in advance and will include on call duties. Schedules may vary and individuals selected will be required to successfully complete certification training.

The responsibilities of the SSP include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing temporary traffic control for emergency responders and providing scene assistance.

  • Detecting incidents and disruptions in traffic.

  • Clearing obstructions and debris from the roadway.

  • Support reversible roadway and high-occupancy vehicle gate and tunnel operations to ensure safe and incident-free lane change functions. ERO ONLY

The Safety Service Patrol also offers help to individual motorists, including:

  • Tire change assistance.

  • Fuel to get to the nearest gas station.

  • Jump starts.

  • Water for overheating radiators.

  • Phone access to call tow / recovery services.

  • Directions.

To ensure safety, Safety Service Patrol operators are provided with special highly visible, reflective uniforms and drive specially marked vehicles.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and or equivalent certificate (GED) or 1 year of relevant work experience in lieu of education.

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.

  • Ability to drive, using an AECOM provided vehicle, patrolling and monitoring a segment of interstate roadway in an assigned region.

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).

  • Possess a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record in the last 3 years, including no suspension of license or single violation that the department of motor vehicle treats as worth 6 demerits.

  • Employees must also participate in monthly MVR monitoring program and maintain a satisfactory driving record as a condition of employment.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and successfully participate in the program's mandatory random drug screening process.

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, moisture, dust, dryness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of driving experience.

  • Prior Safety Service Patrol Operator experience.

  • Knowledge/experience of incident management techniques.

  • Radio and telecommunications experience.

The Mechanical Engineer works in a highly collaborative environment on a wide range of projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing building mechanical systems and supporting junior staff. The Engineer knows how to perform the technical calculations and design, understands the project requirements and the effort required to complete the work. The candidate should be able to design the projects from concept up to construction and delivery to the Client. Candidate should be capable of working independently with limited supervision to complete both small and large complex projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external clients is required. Candidate must be well organized, be able to demonstrate critical thinking and can quickly recognize issues and be part of the solution.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechanical engineering from conceptual design through construction administration and post-occupancy

  • Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings

  • Stays current on codes and technologies appropriate to the Mechanical discipline

  • Researches, develops, designs, specifies, and witnesses the testing of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials, applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering

  • Develops designs within a BIM design environment

  • Develops, designs, and specifies equipment, components and materials for all building

  • Assist in proposal preparation in conjunction with the senior leadership of the office

  • Manage and work on multiple projects with other team members

  • Ensures discipline plans that are created meet overall project team requirements for project scope and schedule

  • Review team member's work for quality and recognition of training requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar field +6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical code knowledge including International Fuel Gas Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA and other relevant codes and standards

  • Experience in designing complex hydronic systems, steam, VRF systems and sustainable designs. This includes cooling towers, water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers, hot water and steam boilers, geothermal systems, etc.

  • Experience in developing specification book

  • Instrumentation and controls design/engineering experience

  • Revit and CAD experience

  • Ability to use load calculation software such as Trace700 and other energy modeling softwares such as eQuest, IES is a plus.

  • Competent in all conventional aspects of mechanical engineering and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

  • Plumbing and Fire Protection system design experience

  • Medical gas piping design experience is highly preferred

  • Experience in the following markets: Healthcare, Laboratories, Mission Critical, Justice, and Higher Education projects

Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a full-time Natural Resources Biologist III for immediate employment within our Southern California Natural Resources Group. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects and career opportunities in a dynamic and flexible working environment. This hybrid position is primarily office-based, though some field work may be required and can be based in any of our Southern California offices including San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange or Long Beach.

This position would support numerous natural resource projects in the southern and central California region with a focus on leading preparation of Biological Assessments, Habitat Conservation Plans, technical reports, and other regulatory compliance and permitting efforts including CEQA/NEPA, 404/401, CESA, and ESA resource agency consultation.

Primary duties include authoring on complex technical documents for large-scale projects, developing permitting strategies for clients, synthesizing compiled datasets, collaborating with a large team of technical experts, and task management. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background and advanced writing skills and is interested in moving towards a Project Management trajectory. Familiarity with Sections 7 and 10 of the federal Endangered Species Act, 2081 permitting under the California Endangered Species Act, NEPA, CEQA, and the Clean Water Act are required. A 10(A)(1)(a) permit for listed species local to southern California is preferred (but not required), including species such as coastal California gnatcatcher, desert tortoise, and/or southwestern willow flycatcher amongst others. Additional duties may include financial management tasks and team coordination/leadership. Position will support multiple project managers on a variety of types of projects including utility, military, transportation, and renewable energy sectors.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Conduct writing assignments, including completing Biological Technical Reports, Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, Natural Environment Studies, Biological Assessments, and/or EIR/EIS sections.

  • Operate as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects.

  • Possess knowledge of major state and federal agencies (e.g., USACE, USFWS, BLM, CDFW, RWQCB, and CCC) and major regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, CFGC, CWA and CCA as well as knowledge of regional conservation planning (i.e., MSCP, MHCP, MSHCP) and apply to assigned tasks.

  • Support proposal efforts.

  • Work under supervision of senior project managers or senior-level team members.

  • Ability to independently manage projects or tasks and/or oversee project teams.

  • Ensure assigned tasks stay on schedule and budget.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver.

  • Perform assignments that require background in wildlife ecology and/or botany and ecological processes.

Job Summary

  • Manages a communications campaign, project or workstream for a function, region or business line in line with business objectives.

  • Provides communications consultation to key business and function stakeholders.

  • Manages the achievement of the communications teams' activity to meet the organization's goals.

  • Determines specific campaign requirements, channels and tactics, and contributes to and implements communications plans.

  • Understands and utilizes new communications tools and techniques.

  • Produces high quality messaging and content across all channels and edits draft content from others; ensures all content is brand compliant and aligned to communications goals.

  • Captures and maintains data and generates relevant reports. Develops insights, provides recommendations and makes decisions about communications activity.

  • Manages project updates with internal stakeholders and partners, communicating priorities and progress.

  • Leads comms or campaigns teams and may have direct reports.

  • Responsible for results of comms activity.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS Marketing, communications or related field

  • 6 years of marketing and communication content development or related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education '

  • Experience in the A/E/C industry related to markeing communication development and compaigns and client communication

  • Experience with MircoSoft Office Suite applications

AECOM is currently searching for a Civil Engineer to support the Hunt Valley, MD location. This position is expected to begin as soon as available in our Transportation Aviation Business Line.

The position involves planning, design, engineering, and construction for airport projects dealing with airfield safety, standards, improvement, and expansion programs. Design work includes airfield planning, layout, and site design, earthwork analyses and design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and design, pavement design and maintenance, construction safety and phasing, aircraft layouts and modeling, storm water management design, erosion and sediment control design, utility coordination and design, environmental permitting, and preparation of construction plans, specifications, schedules, design reports, and cost estimates. Construction work includes construction administration and management including shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and construction inspection. The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in-house disciplines including Planners, Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical and Special Systems Engineers in typical projects supporting our airport clients.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts civil engineering design for airport projects

  • Completes designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematics, and final working drawings for preparation of construction plans related to airport development projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, hangars, terminals, and other airport facilities

  • Prepares construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10 and State requirements

  • Prepares design reports, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates

  • Collects and analyzes data to support design and construction phases of projects

  • Uses various computer software for design development and prepares plans in Civil 3D

  • Coordinates and collaborates with other airport/civil engineering, architectural, and engineering disciplines, sub-consultants, Utility companies, permitting agencies, contractors, government and regulatory agencies, and clients

  • Serves as engineering Task Leader and conducts direct task supervision and mentorship of CAD Staff, Designers, and other Junior Engineers at the direction of the Project Manager

  • Performs construction administration and construction inspection.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule

Qualifications

Minimum Requirments:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree + 4 years of related civil experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Ability to pass Federal background check for airport badging

  • Valid US Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage multiple projects within client's scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables

  • Provide team leadership and oversight of consultants and subcontractors for site investigation and remediation projects with complex technical/regulatory issues, to ensure their work aligns with our client's goals and expectations

The Sr. IT Project Manager will be responsible for planning and executing enterprise-wide technology projects of varying complexity from conception through delivery, including successful project definition, evaluation of alternatives, planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource management, project delivery, and post go live stabilization. Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Construction Intern to be based in Chicago, IL .

These positions are expected to begin May or June 2025 .

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs a variety of assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out tasks.

  • Performs entry level work.

  • Follows instructions to accomplish tasks assigned by senior staff.

  • Meets required schedules while producing quality work.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field and must have completed at least three years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree and plan to continue with the Master's degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor's degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

  • Valid U.S. Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $22.00/hour - $26.00/hour.
