Primary duties for the Combustion Devices engineer would include:
Gather data and assemble for assessment of changes and issues with hardware and test data.
Collaborate with other engineers to resolve technical issues.
Document and deliver results with recommendations.
Utilize analysis and test/flight data to characterize the component environments and assist in determining if the combustion devices and turbomachinery meet established design requirements and design goals.
Apply analyses to pre- and post-test predictions of component performance and to assessing ground test/flight data.
Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of liquid propulsion components related to combustion devices.
Assist in assessing new design concepts, design improvements, and fabrication methods.
Attend technical interchanges, project planning, design review, review boards, and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete and document assigned action items. Review requirements and risk management processes.
Perform other duties related to liquid rocket engine analyses and systems engineering as assigned.
Present assessments to other engineers, as well as technical, project, and program management.
Qualifications
BS plus 10 years of experience, or MS plus 7 years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering field from an ABET-accredited university.
Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, propulsion, and heat transfer.
Proficient with combustion codes and applications.
Familiar with fabrication and manufacturing operations.
Proficient using Microsoft Office Products.
Excellent presentation skills.
Excellent organizational skills and time management.
Able to work in a team environment.
Must be able to provide own transportation.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%)
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:

Position Description:
The Propulsion Systems Engineer will work in a highly integrated team performing technical and integration activities to support Commercial Crew Program (CCP) main propulsion systems and launch vehicles.
Responsibilities:
Primary duties for the Propulsion Systems Engineer may include, but are not limited to:
Attend technical interchange, project planning, design review and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities.
Perform system assessments, identify issues, pursue resolutions, document and present to engineering review board with rationale and recommendations.
Collect data and perform assessments on the NASA partner launch vehicles and system to continually assess compliance against human rating certification requirements as defined by the CCP program office.
Provide integration insight, evaluations, document reviews, and milestone reviews including Review Item
Discrepancy (RID) disposition at the Program and Element level.
Evaluate vehicle changes for impacts to propulsion elements and vehicle integration.
Verification and validation planning and execution for propulsion components, subsystems and integrated vehicle.
Assess propulsion system risks and issues associated with commercial crew launch vehicles; develop requirements and implement risk management processes.
Perform analysis and provide systems engineering skills to support Commercial Crew Main Propulsion Systems engineering and integration.
Develop models and analysis tools, provide analytical documentation such as trade studies, hazards assessments, fault tolerance designs, certifications for flight, launch vehicle data reviews.
Support NASA mission management team during testing and launch operations.
Qualifications
Degree in Engineering or related discipline is required; Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university preferred. Typically, educational requirement is a BS with 2 years of experience.
The selected candidate should also demonstrate:
Experience with main propulsion system design, analysis, engine integration or development/verification testing.
Integration experience at the vehicle or stage level to include technical and systems engineering activities.
Capability to plan and perform systems engineering and analysis tasks independently and as a team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Power-Point, Excel, and Word.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Individual must be highly motivated, flexible and willing to shift focus areas to meet volatile customer requirements.

Must provide performance-oriented training using the TRADOC-approved Program of Instruction (POI). The full spectrum of training includes but is not limited to: classroom (platform and small group) training; hands-on/practical exercise training; role playing; simulation/virtual training; and field exercise training. Training may be for resident and non-resident training courses and in support of mobile training. Shall also participate as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in developing revisions of the POIs, Lesson Plans and Training Support Packages (TSPs) to remedy any deficiencies or shortcomings identified during the preparation for and conduct of instruction. The International Space Station (ISS) Projects Office manages and performs human-rated space projects and tasks in support of the International Space Station program. The ISS Projects Office is responsible for leading project planning, budgeting, scheduling, testing, cost control, sustaining engineering, payload integration and operations for projects such as: Microgravity and Life Sciences Glovebox (MLSG), Materials Science Research Rack (MSRR), Sample-Cartridge Assemblies (SCA) and test support of Expedite the Processing of Experiments to Space Station (EXPRESS) and derivative racks.
The purpose of the Microgravity and Life Sciences Glovebox (MLSG) Project is to manage and provide sustaining engineering, payload integration engineering and facility maintenance for both the Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG) Facility and Life Sciences Glovebox (LSG) Facility in support of the ISS Program.
Responsibilities:
The MLSG Glovebox Integration Engineer (GIE) will support MSG and LSG payload integration. The GIE will serve as the primary interface between the MLSG Project team and the Payload Developer (PD)/Payload Integration Manager (PIM).
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Generate Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Utilization Memos (UMs) to document payload to facility interfaces and requirements.
- Develop Materials Compatibility memos to document the material mitigations to protect each facility.
- Report weekly payload/product integration status to the MLSG Project Office.
- Understand facility requirements and coordinate with stake holders to be able to get the correct data to close out verification.
- Analyze, review, and submit MLSG payload verifications to the ISS Program and the VERITAS database.
- Review and approve ISS/Facility resource requirements from PDs.
- Coordinate with PIMs for payload schedule and status of deliverables.
- Participate in ISS Program payload safety reviews as facility subject matter expert.
- Attend payload design reviews (Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), etc.) to coordinate available facility resources.
- Coordinate and support the payload Test Readiness Inspection (TRI) and Integration Verification Testing (IVT).
- Support program, project, and payload meetings/statuses (MLSG weekly meetings, boards, and panels, etc.).
- Understand facility requirements and coordinate with stakeholders to be able to get the correct data to close verification.
Degree in Engineering, Science, Math, or related technical field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a BS with 5 years of experience.
Required:
- Experience in payload hardware integration and/or space operations support.
- Understanding of the ISS Program structure, including the role of each ISS Program organization in the launch, integration, on-orbit operation, and return of facility and payload hardware.
- General knowledge of Johnson Space Center databases such as ORBIT, VERITAS, etc. and Microsoft tools.
- Experience in defining payload hardware or facility requirements, verification coordination, analysis, and verification submittals.
- A demonstrated proactive approach to coordination with multiple stakeholders (ie. Payload Developers, Principal Investigators, PIMs, and project office representatives).
- A high level of initiative with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate independently with minimum supervision and complete tasks per project schedule.

Must have 6 years of operational experience as a Tactical Intelligence Officer (35D), All Source Intelligence Analyst (35F) Senior Non-Commissiond Officer (SFC or above), All Source Intelligence Technician (350F) Senior Warrant Officer (CW3 or above) , or Civilian within the MI branch or an equivalent speciality in another branch of service or other U.S. Government agency in support of authorized intelligence activities as defined by AR 381-10 within the last ten years.
Must be a graduate of one of the following MI Branch courses: ILE, Captains Career Course, NCO Senior Leaders Course (SLC), or Advanced Warrant Officer Course. An alternative educational course within another branch of service or other US Government agency may be considered for substitution of the listed MI Branch courses, if the government determines the course to be equivalent to one of the required MI Branch courses in all aspects of tactical and strategic intelligence curricula and/or instruction.
Bachelor's Degree. Four years of additional experience may be substituted, provided experience directly related to the position description.
Minimum of an Interim Top Secret or final Top Secret/SCI clearance required.
Experience working on the most recent automation tools and systems applicable to All Source intelligence operations.
PREFERRED
Previously completed Common Faculty Development Program - Instructor Course (CFDP-IC) and Small Group Instructor Training Course (SGITC) or DOD/Service equivalent program certifications.
If instructor applicant does not possess these qualifications, the applicant must be able to pass the requisite USAICoE-provided courses on the first iteration of classes made available by the government and maintain such certifications throughout duration of employment.
