JMT's growing Structures Team is seeking to add a dynamic Bridge Project Engineer to their Herndon, Virginia Office. This position will provide a variety of bridge design experiences, giving a well-rounded opportunity for professional development and growth. U.S. Residency Required.
The Bridge Project Engineer will design bridge and transportation structures of varying complexity in accordance with AASHTO and VDOT Specifications. The Bridge Project Engineer will receive general supervision from the Project Manager and will assist with project management responsibilities as appropriate. Bridge design tasks and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Structural analysis and design calculations for bridges (steel plate girders, prestressed concrete beams, foundations, etc.), retaining walls, bridge repairs, and ancillary structures (traffic signals, overhead sign structures, etc.)
Preparing structural plan details in accordance with VDOT and industry standards, while also considering requirements from other disciplines (survey, roadway, drainage, etc.)
Preliminary design reports, which summarize and compare different structural alternatives depending on the project
Quantity and cost estimate development
Construction submittal reviews, including RFI's and shop drawings. Perform site visits to ongoing construction projects when warranted
Assist with project management responsibilities
Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work
Perform routine and in-depth inspections for in-service transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and ancillary structures

5-10 years of experience performing design of highway bridges and transportation structures
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structures
Experience in using structural analysis and design software, MathCAD, MicroStation or other drafting software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel
Passed Virginia FE exam or has Virginia PE license
Preferred Experience
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structures
Familiarity with VDOT and AASHTO LRFD bridge design requirements
Experience using MDX, CONSPAN, ABLRFD, RC-Pier and L-Pile, or other similar programs
Experience in performing load ratings using AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software
Experience in preparing plans using CADD / MicroStation
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office 90% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required approximately 10% of the time where work will be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required as needed.

Working Conditions

JMT is seeking a Mechanical Inspector with Water/Wastewater experience to be assigned from the Pittsburgh, PA Office.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Inspecting all aspects of utility projects including: roads, sewer collection systems, wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems, water treatment plants etc.
Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to construction requirements and safety regulations
Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and safety standards
Assign, schedule and maintain inspection staff throughout all phases of the project
Work on behalf of the Client to resolve construction related field issues
Communicate and provide recommendation for field issues/conflicts/changes to owner
Maintains and reviews comprehensive project records including daily diaries, documentation of construction workforce, equipment, and materials records, inspection reports, project photos, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, work orders and monthly payment estimates.
Coordinate and monitor material testing, air balance testing and systems testing. Monitor Commissioning process including equipment testing, functional performance tests and building integration of inter-related systems. Monitor deficiency logs to assure follow up of re-testing and system performance.
Coordinate with existing maintenance staff and operations when utility outages, noise control, traffic control or security is required by the work. Attend pre-outage planning meetings
Monitor project close-out procedures including O&M manuals, as-builts, punchlists, and warranty walk-through. Issue punchlists for above ceiling, open wall and Substantial Completion inspections, and revisit to confirm completion of deficiencies
Follow OSHA Guidelines to ensure safe working environment (lock-out/tag- out, maintain MSDS sheets etc.)
Coordinate with local health, safety, fire and building inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
Demonstrate independent and effective problem solving/decision making.

JMT's Pittsburgh Construction Management Team is seeking Resident Engineers/Resident Construction Managers to staff existing PennDOT assignments and upcoming Pa Turnpike assignments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
Assign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project
Review and maintain all pertinent project documentation and ensure that it accurately details construction progress, activities and materials, meets environmental permitting conditions, comply with safety policies and programs, and monitors EEO and DBE progress and performance
Prepare, review and submit project inspection reports, work authorizations, work orders and estimates
Notify contractor of non-compliance and corrective action
Review, analyze and evaluate contractor schedules
Track project progress and advises parties of possible overruns, and critical project issues
Completes analysis of field tests
Attend pre-bid, pre-construction and/or management level meetings throughout the course of the project, assist the client with change orders, claim defense, and provide updates to the client construction progress and issues
Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries
Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues

Required SkillsRequired Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong Computer Proficiency
8+ years of roadway construction inspection experience
Client requested certifications
Knowledge and experience in roadway construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment and materials
Active driver's license
Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations
Ability to act in an Owner's Agent/Responsible in Charge role
Preferred Experience
Experience with local clients
Associates or bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Review and prepare contractor's payment requests
Manage and maintain all project documentation such as PSA reviews, SOS, DBE work, etc.
Assist in preparing work authorizations and work orders
Proficient in math and have the ability to check calculation completed by field inspectors
Ability to perform daily work activities in an efficient and organized manner
Coordinate with field staff to ensure construction operations are being properly documented
Assist with project closeout, prepare final invoice and preparation of project final documents
Organize and maintain project documents
Interact with client representatives, auditing firms, contractor representatives, sub-consultants, and other field staff
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Required SkillsRequired Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
4+ years of Construction Documentation (CDS) Experience working on PennDOT or PA Turnpike projects
Client requested certifications
Strong Computer proficiency
Active driver's license
Ability to work with individuals representing multiple consulting firms
Preferred Experience
Experience with using PennDOT's ECMS system and PPCC site
Experience with PaTurnpike's CDSme and Kahua system
Supervisory experience in construction inspection situations
Field experience with documenting inspection of activities
