Team Overview: The Balance Sheet Planning (BSP) team is a part of the Strategic Finance division. As one of the Finance Department's analytical hubs, the team is tasked with supporting strategy recommendations and assessing the financial impact of corporate business decisions. One of BSP's responsibilities is developing corporate balance sheet and income statement forecasts on a quarterly basis and Navy Federal's annual budget forecast. BSP works collaboratively with teams from across the organization to develop these forecasts. Additionally, the team monitors Navy Federal's monthly financial performance, supports the Corporate Economist, and develops financial analyses on market competitors.
The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2024 and ending in August 2024. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2024 or later.
Responsibilities
The Summer Associate will work in a hybrid manner and report to leadership at the Vienna, VA campus. The individual will work collaboratively with the team and independently on their own deliverables.
Candidates will gain the following:

Course work in Finance, Accounting, and Economics, but not required to be concentrated in these fields
Strong critical and analytical thinking skills

The Marketing Data Science & Strategy Team is a team of Data Scientists with the skill and expertise to mine big data to detect, decipher, and predict member needs that empower business units and Member Service Representatives (MSRs) to offer outstanding service to our members through Marketing channels.
Our activities include identifying market opportunities for prospective members, products, and services using machine learning, providing subject-matter expertise on descriptive, predictive & prescriptive analytics and how to effectively utilize them in Marketing, forecasting business metrics for planning, and so much more.
The ideal Summer Associate will be a passionate and curious individual with a combination of problem-solving and storytelling skills and one who would love the team and its approach to solving problems that make Marketing fun. Areas of opportunity may include analyzing new machine learning capabilities, understanding customer loyalty through their behavior, developing dashboards to empower employees to do their own data discovery/exploration, and discovering strategic opportunities.

Experience with data extraction/wrangling
Experience using analytic tools such as: Databricks, Azure Data Studio, SQL, R, Python, PySpark, Power BI or Tableau
Good communication and presentation skills
Comfort working with large datasets and telling stories with data
Ability to work independently and think outside of the box

The Real Estate Lending (REL) Technology Services team is responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and channel agnostic member-centric back-end integration capabilities and support Real Estate Lending applications, accelerating the digital transformation, and empowering teams to innovate and deliver products and services through collaboration. The REL Technology Product Owner (TPO) leads three verticals with 40+ employees and consultants. A Technology Product Manager (TPM) is responsible for providing a complete product lifecycle management from design, analysis, build, manage, operate, and retire. REL Technology Services functions and delivers in a Scale Agile framework (SAFe) and is the technology owner of an extensive list of homegrown and COT solutions primarily developed in .NET, Java, MS Dynamics CRM, PEGA System, and other technologies.

Develop and design new business product in the technology align in approved technologies and platforms
Assist business product owners in identifying user/customer needs, setting technology product scope, identifying product key performance indicators, and aligning new technology products to the technology product taxonomy
Assist business product owners in prioritizing and sequencing epics/features within the technology product roadmap, and in creating Lean Agile business cases representing epics/features prioritized from the portfolio backlog
Ensure communication and disposition of exceptions, rejections, constraints, and requests for additional information
Work with business stakeholders, technology product managers, and technology product delivery teams to maintain awareness, approval, and consensus regarding changes and decision making through planning and delivery

Standards is a team within the Security Governance & Risk (SG&R) Division of the NFCU's Security Department. Responsibilities
The Standards Transformation Project is a significant effort for the Standards team which will see the current Standards updated and aligned against a new Information Security Framework. We are currently targeting NIST SP 800-53. During the internship, we plan to be in the document generation and new requirements analysis phases of the project.
Project Specifications:
Work with team members in aligning the Standards to the selected framework by assisting with a full reorganization of the Standards.
Coordinate the updates with stakeholders from across NFCU to ensure that updates to the Standards align with current or proposed future practices.
Recommend information security controls and assist with the tailoring of the baseline control selections.
Identify, leverage, and present relationships between industry frameworks to evaluate compliance levels from NFCU documented requirements to industry.
Propose changes to the Standards to ensure they better align with the selected framework and meet a level of security necessary to ensure the continued security and confidentiality of member and employee confidential information.
Report back on the progress of the Standards Transformation Project, including highlighting control and control enhancement recommendations, and outline the next steps.

Overview
The Cyber Advanced Analysis Team (CAAT) in Navy Federal's Information Security Division's Automation and Special Projects group identifies, tracks and mitigates cyber threats to Navy Federal Credit Union Members. Systemic and persistent threats to Navy Federal Members include but are not limited to fraud schemes and identity theft. CAAT collaborates with additional teams across Navy Federal to innovate and automate protections against these threats.
The Summer Associate will conduct a three-month research experiment with the intent of presenting the results of the research at the end of the summer.
Potential projects could include:
Conduct a retrospective research project into a subset of Navy Federal Members accounts who were victims of account takeover (ATO) with the intent of building a model to identify potential fraud losses averted by new controls which secure account credentials.
Investigate phishing sites targeting Navy Federal Members to identify and analyze the phish kits or other infrastructure commonalities across the sites.
Build a machine learning model to categorize or classify deep and dark web threats to Navy Federal Members.
