SMT LEAD, STARSHIP AVIONICS PRODUCTION
The SMT Lead is a unique opportunity to spearhead the development of a New Product Introduction (NPI) SMT line from the ground up. This role will aim to drastically reduce development process time and allow for rapid design iteration and risk reduction for Starship Avionics as we strive to make humanity a multi-planetary species.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently select, procure, program, set up, and run a complete NPI SMT line
Interface with equipment manufacturers and/or reps to select, set up, and maintain the SMT line
Run NPI software and troubleshoot component definitions, feeder assignments and all other functions required to set up a first-time run on the placement equipment
Create and maintain equipment work instructions
Maintain maintenance log schedules and oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment as needed
Drive execution of production schedule while Identifying and mitigating schedule risk
Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications
Resolve nonconformance issues including documentation of associated rework
Coordinate support organization efforts to minimize production interruptions
Collaborate with engineers to develop DFM documents/procedures to increase efficiency and quality
Supervise shop floor activity, including daily schedules, timekeeping, workflow, as well as annual review responsibilities for direct reports
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering discipline OR High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment
Experience setting up, programming, and operating a brand new SMT line
Experience in a leadership position
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
5+ years of experience setting up, programming and operating SMT equipment, including Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)
IPC-J-STD-001 certification and/or IPC-A-610 certification
Experience operating pick-and-place machines, screen printers, reflow ovens, drag solder machines, x-ray machines, parts towers, and coating machines
Experience with MRP/ERP systems
General knowledge of PCBA manufacturing
Strong understanding of technical documentation, engineering drawings, and schematics
Fluent in MS Office Suite (i.e. MS Outlook)
Able to work productively individually and as a member of a team with minimal supervision
Excellent people management skills with an emphasis on coaching and mentoring
Highly motivated to readily acquire and effectively use new information and skills in a detailed-oriented manner to effectively fulfill multiple and concurrent assigned tasks
Excellent communication and organizational skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones
Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
