SUPERVISOR, NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION

This position will report directly to the NDE Operations Manager within the NDE department. The NDE function is organized within focused production area cells alongside the production activities utilizing multiple and varied inspection methods to efficiently provide quality control and protect product reliability.

As the NDE Supervisor at SpaceX you will be required to interface across the business. The job function will require emphasizing a -quality first- culture with the team while, performing hands-on inspection troubleshooting, and managing inspectors during day-to-day NDE activities. The supervisor will interact with technical and operations leaders at the primary manufacturing facility, and test/launch sites as necessary. The candidate should possess strong leadership, structured control and data driven performance management, as well as soft skills such as influencing and persuading. A key eye for detail and the ability to work within complex teams to reach companywide goals are also attributes which a successful candidate must possess.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule, prioritize, and manage production rate and resource planning

  • Own the workflow within their workcenter (operational metrics and target management)

  • Act as the interface between the team and relevant production partners, customers, and NDE engineers

  • Engage in personnel hiring and inspector career development planning and certification training

  • Maintain direct reports recertification completion and timelines

  • Identify and prioritize improvement opportunities, including implementation of improvements

  • Delegate and own equipment sourcing/procurement, as well as tool calibration and facilities maintenance scheduling

  • Prioritize increases in inspection quality, along with assisting with auditing

  • Deploy lean strategies: 5S, Kaizen

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate

  • 2+ years of prior leadership experience within manufacturing environment, either leading team projects or people

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills while managing multiple priorities

  • 2+ years of NDE experience at level II certification in line with ASNT/NAS 410 certification standards in multiple methods: at least 1 Base Method (ex. Dye Pen, Mag Particle, Visual) and 1 advanced method (ex. X-Ray, Ultra Sonics, Eddy Current, Shearography, Thermography)

  • NDE level III certification in at least 1 method

  • 5+ years of aerospace experience

  • Knowledge of NASA 5009 standards

  • Knowledge of AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM

  • Knowledge and understanding of NAS 410 standards

  • Problem solving tools and techniques: ex. 5 whys, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Root Cause Analysis

  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing principles: ex. 5S, Kaizen, continuous improvement, DMAIC

  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft office applications - Word, Power Point, Excel

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, assemblies, technique specific systems

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to lift 25 lbs unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist

  • Willing to work extended hours and on weekends if needed

  • Ability to pass Space Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
