MECHANICAL ENGINEER (SITE DEVELOPMENT, HVAC, AND MEP)

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee all design, construction, and operations of HVAC systems that are critical to production, launch, and facilities. You will be accountable for overseeing existing system performance and modifications, new system design and construction, companywide specifications/compliance, capital project management, and preventative maintenance efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary technical advisor on HVAC technology, design, construction, controls, and equipment operations across all production, launch, and general facilities

  • Work with internal customers on HVAC design requirements, construction schedules, and costs

  • Set priority and drive agenda on install projects to meet schedules

  • Continuously challenge HVAC design requirements, find ways to delete parts, simplify designs, and accelerate the construction process

  • Design and build HVAC systems with very short timelines

  • Manage external design consultants, contractors, technicians, and equipment suppliers

  • Design and build building automation systems to remotely monitor and control equipment

  • Analyze existing asset performance and find ways to optimize existing systems

  • Monitor critical production and launch assets, identify failure modes, and ways to improve reliability

  • Oversee HVAC preventative maintenance programs

  • In some cases, prepare plans, details, specified and cost estimates of plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and general piping system

  • Organize the review and evaluate the work of consultants, contractors, and others

  • Undertake general project site observation/inspection of the mechanical services works for contractor's adherence to the approved shop drawings and consultant's specification, good working practices, and construction schedule

  • Undertake a prior review of the contractor's proposed mechanical system testing and commissioning methods and schedule

  • Witness on-site piped system pressure test, air conditioning duct leakage testing, and another testing that may be required during the first fix works and advise the project manager accordingly

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or other engineering discipline

  • 5+ years experience with HVAC system design, environmental sensors/components, industrial system monitoring, and/or data collection systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of construction experience with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing

  • Has knowledge in reading and leading MEP plans to construction

  • Experience with NX/Teamcenter designing mechanical parts and assemblies

  • Professional Engineer license

  • Leadership experience with HVAC design, construction, and/or facilities management

  • Ability to interpret data trends and make necessary improvements to maintain ISO level specifications

  • Experience with construction documentation and developing architectural plans

  • Thorough understanding of direct expansion (DX) and chilled water systems

  • Ability to coordinate job walks for the bid process as well as contractors onsite

  • Heavy interest in developing facility support systems for aerospace production/test

  • Experience with large capital budgeting/project management and financial analysis

  • Creative and passionate approach to addressing challenges, and an enthusiastic, self-motivated attitude that relishes in delivering best-in-class performance

  • Strong computer and analytical skills including proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and Microsoft Suite

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; heavy focus in leadership

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work long and off-nominal hours

  • Expectation and ability to be standing and moving for majority of day
