JMT's Washington DC Transportation Team is seeking a Traffic Design Engineer to be responsible for engineering design, analysis, and studies using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments.
JMT's Washington DC office is a fast-growing and dynamic office involved in major projects in Washington DC and the surrounding area. The selected candidate will work with a team of experienced project managers and professional engineers on exciting, multimodal transportation projects. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform engineering tasks in the traffic engineering field through application of relevant design criteria, standards, and processes.
Prepare traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, lighting, and ITS design plans.
Prepare maintenance of traffic (MOT), transportation management plans (TMP), and detour plans for design projects.
Develop construction cost estimates and specifications.
Perform traffic safety and traffic analysis studies based on the Highway Capacity Manual.
Perform traffic analysis using software such as Synchro and VISSIM.
Conduct multimodal studies including pedestrian and bicycle studies.
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan project.
Perform field reviews of traffic operations.
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program

Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
