The Instructional Development Manager is responsible for the design and development of new courses and revisions of existing courses. The role includes heavy emphasis on project management of internal departments and processes and works closely with external publisher partners; including scheduling of content development, training, and launch to ensure timely availability and deliver of high quality, effective course materials. Internally, this role collaborates with key stakeholders such as the program dean or associate dean, textbook manager(s), SMEs, instructional technologists, and faculty development to ensure seamless integration of quality content delivered through multiple modalities.
Responsibilities
Serve as internal and external project manager for new course development and for course revision processes, managing schedules, contractors, budgets and resources and communication channels to ensure implementation of quality content delivered within scope, timeline, and budget
Design, create, and develop engaging online, on ground, and hybrid courses; manage projects to ensure timely delivery, effective use of department resources, and quality of deliverables in accordance to ECPI standards
Collaborate with internal/external subject matter experts and other team members to design and update program curriculum
Incorporate feedback from students, course evaluations, subject matter experts, employers, national workplace trends, and other departments to revise and modify courses as needed in collaboration with the program dean's direction
Use a variety of authoring tools to create interactive media and adaptive learning content and remain current with educational trends and technology, including development and delivery tools
Provide timely training and information to appropriate departments to effectively and accurately launch new and revised courses
Pilot new design tools, processes, and standards to establish best practices for the team
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Strong understanding of adult learning theory, learning styles, and adaptive learning techniques
Strong technology skills, including the use of virtual desktop technology in the classroom
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education/Experience:
Minimum two years higher education experience with a focus on distance learning
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Adult Education or a related field. Master's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
Three (3) years' experience in the design and development of instructional materials, and proven success in leading a team of creative professionals in the timely completion of assigned projects to established levels of quality
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to manage multiple projects and align resources to ensure priorities are met
Experience using Project Management application software
Experience using a variety of learning management systems
Proficiency in utilizing instructional design methodologies and adult learning theories
Extensive interactive media development skills such as Adobe eLearning Suite, Camtasia, Articulate Studio and Storyline
