JMT's Eastern PA offices (Philadlephia, Fort Washington, and Allentown) are seeking an entry level Structural Design Engineer to be responsible for assisting a professional engineer in the creation and checking of structural analysis and design calculations, inspection, preparation of construction plan sets, and estimating costs for bridges and miscellaneous highway structures. Sponsorship is not available for this position. As a condition of employment, hire will be required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform engineering tasks in the structural engineering field through application of relevant design codes, standards and design-oriented computer programs
Perform general civil/structural engineering tasks to support various project managers, as required
Participate in plan and shop drawing reviews
Draft plans using MicroStation
Assist in the field performing bridge and structure inspections
Write and review bridge inspection reports
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Required Skills
Knowledge of structural design principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete for structure components
Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Required Experience
BS or MS in Civil Engineering with concentration in structures from a 4-year accredited university
0 to 8 years of relevant experience in structural design
EIT certification, or the ability to quickly obtain certification
Experience using structural analysis and design software, MicroStation drafting software, Mathcad, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software including WORD and EXCEL
Preferred Experience
Experience using MicroStation
Experience with AASHTO LRFD bridge design
Experience working with Maryland Department of Transportation
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Inspections of transportation structures (bridges, retaining walls and culverts) may be required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required, as needed.
