Sr. Port Engineer, Marine Operations at SpaceX

SR. PORT ENGINEER, MARINE OPERATIONS
As a SpaceX port engineer, this role will be responsible for overseeing activities related to the maintenance, repair, and safe readiness of SpaceX's fleet of vessels in Port Canaveral, FL. You will work hand in hand with the vessels' masters, chief engineers, and crew on all vessel needs. This could include coordinating repair contracts, maintenance schedules, port capacity projects, contractor selection, regulatory needs, etc. As a port engineer, you will work with SpaceX recovery team engineers and technicians, logistics, purchasing, and compliance teams to ensure each support vessel is ready to support mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure the readiness and safe operation of SpaceX's support vessels
Coordinate repair and maintenance schedules
Negotiate contract selection and manage contractors pertinent to vessel maintenance and readiness
Develop maintenance and repair cost analyses
Manage contractors and POs to ensure invoices match expected costs and worked performed
Support any off-site repair or nominal maintenance of vessels such as periodic dry docking
Coordinate dock side needs for the vessels if docked at non-home ports
Ensure vessels and mariners remain compliant to regulatory bodies including the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
Work with other recovery sub-teams to ensure overall mission success pertinent to SpaceX's goals of recovery, reusability, and ultimate goal of making humans multi-planetary
Provide on-mission support in troubleshooting equipment at sea when necessary
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, marine operations, naval architecture, or maritime studies; or bachelor's degree with 8+ years of professional experience in marine transportation
5+ years of professional experience in marine operations
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical discipline
USCG master license/certification
Current or past merchant mariner credential (MMC) with ability to renew
Professional experience working within compliance and/or management of 3+ vessels
Experience managing class I or class L vessels
Strong demonstrated organization and communication skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
Overall mental fitness with the ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment requiring prolonged mental concentration (under possible extended work hours)
50-hour work weeks are typical, schedule varies depending on site operational needs, flexibility required
