Job Summary
Dominion Energy Virginia's Electric Transmission (ET) System Protection Engineering department is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to support the Company's evolving distribution grid. The primary responsibilities for this role include the design, modeling, and development of protective relay settings for Transmission, Distribution, and renewable energy interconnections. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are involved in industry-leading projects and initiatives like interconnecting 5000 MW of solar generation in the next 5 years, the first utility-owned offshore wind project in United States federal waters off the Atlantic coast, STATCOMS, IEC-61850, and the largest data center load growth in the world.
Job Responsibilities - Engineer I:
Learn basic protection philosophy and applications to real-world scenarios
Develop protective relay settings for System Protection Engineering (SPE) protection schemes inside the substation.
Provide technical assistance to various engineering and field teams to fully develop the protection and control design package.
Provide technical support to conceptual engineering teams, project management teams and ET Field Organization throughout the course of capital projects.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Job Responsibilities - Engineer II:
Develop protective relay settings for SPE protection schemes inside the substation.
Provide technical assistance to various engineering and field teams to fully develop the protection and control design package.
Provide advanced technical support to conceptual engineering teams, project management teams and ET Field Organization throughout the course of capital projects.
Participate in various company teams and industry-level organizations to enhance SPE's system protection performance.
Participate in trade and industry organizations and benchmarking activities.
Support team with compliance and/or setting peer review activities.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.This position is located in Richmond, VA with a hybrid schedule as an option subject to business needs. Relocation assistance may be offered to the successful candidate.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
Strong time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignments.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
Equally effective with working independently or in a team environment.
Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
Experience with short circuit modeling software preferred.
Understanding of IEC 61850 communication protocol for intelligent substation protection is a plus.
Experience with SAP work management systems is a plus.
Programming skills for automation of system studies (e.g., Python, .NET, C#, etc.) is a plus.
Experience with PSCAD and/or RTDS is a plus.
Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.
Engineer I:
0-2 years of engineering experience
Basic understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, including three-phase power systems.
Basic understanding of the principles of transmission and/or distribution relay protection a plus.
BS Electrical Engineering degree required. Advanced Degrees may be substituted for years of experience. Someone that is about to graduate may apply.
Engineer II:
3+ years of engineering experience
Understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, including three-phase power systems.
Understanding of the principles of transmission and/or distribution relay protection preferred.
BS Electrical Engineering degree required. Advanced Degrees may be substituted for years of experience. Someone that is about to graduate may apply.

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
