The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Managing Partner, American Heart Association Ventures based out of our National Center office.
The Managing Partner must possess a strong investment and entrepreneurial background and will be instrumental in forming an association wide health and social investment function that leverages current investment strategies while building additional capability driven by evolving business needs and market demands. This role will bring new programs into the organization to capitalize on the Association's scientific and medical intellectual capital, amplify support and advancement of the Association's mission and expand capital inflows to the Associations to support that mission.

Responsibilities
Oversight and coordination of all innovation-based investment strategies (not including Treasury.
Operationally manages and reports on Investment Unit P&L, while closely monitoring and tracking results to ensure a path to realizing financial and mission impact from investment activities.
Leads/oversees direct and indirect investment strategies, both current and planned, including wholly owned investment funds, fund of fund partnerships, venture studio/company creation, acceleration/incubation, etc.
Staffing the Association's Ventures Operating Committee who oversees the overall investment strategy and direction of the business unit, including determining target sectors, geographies, and investment themes. Also ensures appropriate staffing of volunteer governance committees for Funds and initiatives.
Partners with the Association's Corporate Relations and Mission Advancement to assure successful fundraising for investment initiatives.
Establishes ongoing, collaborative relationships and works in partnership with other Association Leadership and Key Volunteers to optimize success of complementary Association initiatives (e.g., Mission Aligned Business, Mission Advancement, Operations, Finance, Health Equity, Center for Health Technology, and Innovation, etc.)
Establishes ongoing, long-term relationships with relevant industry, venture capital and other academic and research institutions.
Acts as an ambassador and spokesperson for the Association around innovation and investment initiatives; attends and presents at relevant conferences and events.
Serves as a model for a high-performance culture by fostering innovation, personal accountability, and commitment to results.
Delivers mission and financial objectives to support Association goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Master's degree in business administration, public policy, finance, or related field is required.
Must possess a minimum of ten (10) years of entrepreneurial/venture investment experience with a working knowledge of new financial models.
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience building and negotiating partnerships and alliances.
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience collaborating with executives, steering committees, volunteer advisors.
Excellent communication skills: must have the ability and savvy to successfully engage with high level leaders, stakeholders and media.
Supervisory experience managing direct reports and/or external consultants. In addition, must have successful track record working in a -matrix- management environment.
Local community relationship, partnership development, program implementation and measurement a must.
Highly organized manager with excellent interpersonal skills, project management skills and data analytics and writing skills.
Exceptional ability to produce high-quality quantitative and qualitative work products under tight deadlines.
Travel is required (at least 50%) and may be more depending on business demand.
