Key job responsibilities
Your day job will include (but not limited to):
- Physical Requirements (all physical requirements may be done with reasonable accommodations).
- This position has a physical component requiring the ability to lift & rack equipment up to 40lbs; it may require working in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
- This role involves up to 60% travel, including some international travel. Candidate must be able to accommodate travel requirements.
- Installation and configuration of routers, switches and DWDM hardware.
- Troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling, network installations and configuration.
- Coordinating colocation remote hands for new capacity installations.
- Coordinating colocation remote hands and eyes for any network issues.
- Resolving colocation facility issues.
- Identify, coordinate, and remediate outside plant (OSP) connectivity issues.
- Building relationships with remote facilities to ensure swift response times to events.
- Performing site audits to ensure safety and quality meets AWS standards.
- Improving all operational processes within each site and/or cage.
- Updating AWS tools.
- Providing status updates to stakeholders via internal tools.
- Decommissioning of cabling and network hardware in collaboration with partner teams as needed.
- Lead medium to large deployment projects for the team or organization. Including new cage builds or expansions.
- Provide input or lead process improvement initiatives.
- Partner with cross functional teams to deliver deployment programs.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in computer science or management or equivalent experience
2+ years of Linux, UNIX administration
4+ years troubleshooting Network installation and configuration
4+ years triaging and repairing data center and colocation site fiber optic cabling/systems and network hardware
Copper/Fiber Optic Testing/Cabling Standards.
Strong understanding of DWDM and TCP/IP networks.
Preferred Qualifications
LEAN, Sigma and Operational Excellence knowledge and/or proficiency.
Excellent knowledge of server hardware.
Excellent knowledge of Linux, UNIX administration.
Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, SQL.
Excellent prioritization and time management.
Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
Understanding of distributed and service-oriented architectures.
Proven ability to manage customer expectations and resolve conflicts that balance client and company needs.
5+ years working in a data center operations environment.
