Title: (NEX OCEANA CAR CARE CENTER) AUTOMOTIVE WORKER Location: United States-Virginia-Virginia Beach Job Number: 2200025C Job Summary Makes repairs and services a variety of component parts accessories and parts of sytems of automobiles trucks vans forklifts etc. Performs state safety inspections. Duties and Responsibilities Makes repairs that can be accomplished by cleaning reinstalling or replacing defective parts of components and systems. Determines if parts should be cleaned and reinstalled or replaced with standard parts. As necessary removes and replaces with standard parts such items as wheel cylinders fuel lines condensers mufflers tail pipes brake linings master cylinders etc. Makes settings and adjustments such as setting distributor and voltage regulator points gapping spark plugs setting engine idle and time and taking up on brakes. Uses a variety of common handtools such as wrenches pliers brake tools ignition tools and screw drivers in the accomplishment of the above. Performs prescribed tests inspections to insure vehicles meet the standards set forth required by the applicable safety standards. Using state prescribed special testing and inspection equipment performs required inspections and tests. Where deficiencies are noted withholds sticker and informs vehicle owner of the need for deficiency corrections quoting from the state manual as necessary. Maintains automotive repair and servicing equipment in good condition. Exercises tact good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. This is expressed by tactfully responding to patron inquiries and assisting patrons in a prompt and friendly manner. Receives assignments from a supervisor orally or in the form of work orders. Selects tools and determines methods to use receiving advice and guidance on connection with unusual problems which may arise. Completed work is reviewed for acceptability and conformance with requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL EFFORT Is required to stand stoop bend stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITION Normally works inside on concrete floors where it is drafty and noisy and where fumes from vehicles are present and occasionally outside sometimes in bad weather. Is exposed to dirt dust and grease and is subject to cuts bruises burns shocks and strains. TRAINING REQUIREMENT Associate must receive hazardous material HazMat training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE One year of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform a full range of duties in connection with the servicing of vehicles and mobile equipment and performing minor maintenance work. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Three years of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform repairs and service a variety of component parts accessories and parts of systems of automobiles trucks vans forklifts etc. perform prescribed tests inspections to insure vehicles meet the standards set forth required by the applicable safety standards.
