PRINCIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER

This position requires a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety professional who will be able to use their skill, knowledge and experience to further our Environmental Health and Safety programs within our fast-paced work environment that includes operations have never been attempted before!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the EHS Director, assist in the development and assist local EHS leadership in the implementation of occupational safety programmatic processes, policies and documentation as outlined by federal and state specific OSHA regulations, as well as Air Force and NASA regulations as applicable to all SpaceX locations

  • Under the direction of the EHS Director, assist in the development and assist local EHS leadership in the implementation of programmatic environmental policies as outlined by federal, state and local regulatory requirements applicable to all SpaceX locations

  • Create and conduct EHS training on technical EHS topics

  • Travel to all SpaceX facilities on a regular basis to perform internal compliance inspections, conduct technical trainings and partner with local EHS staff to evaluate EHS concerns

  • Provide bandwidth to assist EHS leadership as a technical resource to expedite resolutions to high risk problems

  • Perform tasks at the direction of the EHS Director

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 15+ years of experience in the design, development, and general operational oversight of EHS disciplines

  • 8+ years of EHS management experience

  • 3+ years of experience as an inspector for a regulatory agency

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working in the aerospace industry

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering or system safety engineering

  • Masters or upper level degree in a related field

  • Basic knowledge, experience and implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems

  • Experience in the handling and regulatory requirements related to ordnance systems, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) and Defense Contract Management Agency

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing

  • Must be able to work all shifts, overtime and/or weekends as needed

  • Able to stand for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and/or stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
