Duties and Responsibilities: CUSTOMER SERVICE - Proactively engage and make a connection with customers. - Asking questions and listening to customer's needs. - Directing customers to merchandise; informing them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, STAR card - Provide premier customer service. - Cooperate and build positive, inclusive and respectful relationships; take accountability for your own actions and outcomes. ORGANIZATION - Maintaining store appearance. SALES - Cross-selling products and knowing layout of the store. - Make suggestions to customer on latest trends and current promotions based on customer's individual needs. - Upselling products. - Learning product features; keeping up with the latest trends; leveraging company tools and technology to confidently provide the customer with product knowledge/specs. - Using a Point-of-Sales system, processing cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards (cash handling) including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customer. - Completing various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation INVENTORY - Be the keeper of merchandise, complete all inventory processes and make sure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed. (May participate in periodic inventories) DEPENDABILITY - Adherence to assigned work schedule. Accurate and complete follow through on work assignments - Other Duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE - Basic knowledge of products/merchandise EXPERIENCE - Retail experience, preferred but not required COMMUNICATION SKILLS - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management. Ability to communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette. MATHETMATICAL SKILLS - Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. REASONING ABILITY - Ability to multi-task, while being attentive to customers and remaining flexible to the needs of the business. Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing and standing for at least two consecutive hours. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Involves lifting at least 25 lbs. and up to 50lbs in some departments. Work typically performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending upon location. WORK HOURS Available to work a variety of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays Job Summary: Grade: NF02 Provides exceptional customer service and demonstrates advanced product knowledge of specific furniture brands to patrons purchasing furniture and other related products and accessories. Utilizes knowledge and skills to build quality customer relationships that result in increased sales and repeat business. Duties and Responsibilities: Position authorized at Class I and Class II stores only. - Drives multiple-unit sales by practicing suggestive and persuasive selling skills by recommending furniture and additional complimentary items. - Demonstrates advanced knowledge specific to furniture brands and standards regarding manufacturer's warranty, and uses this knowledge to build sales and enhance the level of customer service provided. - Follows special department operating procedures and properly executes all systems and POS procedures to ensure a quick transaction. - Provides information about furniture purchased by customer to minimize number of returns. - Provides guidance to customers by accompanying customers throughout the show-case/display room to answer questions and explain the furnitures' specific features and benefits. - Understands and maintains department standards with regards to merchandise display presentations, inventory control guidelines, and stock areas. - Uses persuasive and influential sales skills to affect the purchasing desires of customers by recommending alternative furniture to customers and explains the purpose and benefit of the such. - Strives to achieve and maintain, at minimum, a "Meets Expectations" sales/productivity level. - Maintains a genuinely friendly, enthusiastic and professional attitude towards internal and external customers of the Navy Exchange. - Calls other stores to locate merchandise requested by the customer. - Becomes familiar with specific furniture brand information by means of vendor tags and pamphlets, vendor visits, product knowledge tools and Department Manager. - Becomes knowledgeable and familiar with all markdowns, special promotions, clearance and advertised merchandise as well as back stock. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Grade: NF01 No experience required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Grade: NF02 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: One year of responsible experience in clerical, office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has emonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 months progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled and possesses advanced product knowledge of specific furniture brands, features, and quality of merchandise; technical knowledge of upholstery and leather grades, wood finishes, quality of workmanship, etc,. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Study completed in a college, university, junior college, technical school or other comparable institution above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience provided such subjects relating to computers, home electronic sales and/or repair, photography, etc. At any level, specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience.
