Summary
As a Sr. UX Writer at CarMax, you'll make sure the words in our digital experiences support our customer's goals, our strategic goals, and our brand. This highly engaged role calls for immense curiosity and lots of positive relationship building. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with product teams and content stakeholders, observe and conduct customer and content research, lead content-first activities and workshops, and influence how our digital products evolve. As your understanding of our brand and end-to-end customer experience grows, you'll take opportunities to align and connect product teams, co-write clear, effective copy, and influence your partner's content choices using content-first approaches, best practices, brand principles, and our style guide. You will advocate for the customer perspective and our brand tone and voice on a daily basis, and your curiosity and adaptability will help you navigate a variety of partners and technology. An ideal candidate embraces writing for an ever-evolving conversation, finds uncomplicated ways to convey complex ideas, obsesses over continuity, and is a persuasive and effective champion of why specific words matter.
Essential responsibilities
Proactively build strong, positive relationships with your fellow UX writers, product teams, legal, brand creative, strategy, and other content stakeholders
Actively collaborate and co-write with all partners to define, design, and evolve our digital experiences with content that feels natural, helpful, and human
Infuse CarMax's brand voice and conversational tone into all customer experiences
Align content throughout the end-to-end customer journey
Observe and conduct research; lead content-first activities and workshops
Iterate on content currently in use
Contribute to the development and maintenance of a UX style guide.
Qualifications for the role
2-5 years of applicable UX writing or content design experience
Strong understanding of UX writing best practices
Experience with leading content-first design for digital products and/or interactions
Experience adapting content to a variety of settings, contexts, and stages of the customer relationship
Experience with content testing and research methods
Ability to translate quantitative and qualitative data into actionable content for consumers
Ability to write within defined brand principles and design style guides, interpret legal guidelines, copyright requirements, and use of disclaimers
Four-year college degree (required)
Computer skills: Microsoft Office 365, others can be trained
Working knowledge of SEO, UX, and Google Analytics

Work location is flexible if approved by the Company except that position may not be performed remotely from Hawaii or Colorado
