TheCategory ManageratBatteries Plusdevelops the overall strategy for assigned product categories and researches new product options in the category to drive sales and achieve targets. They provide category insights and proposals by analyzing marketing and customer data and monitoring relevant market conditions. TheCategory Managerworks closely with theBatteries Plussales team to determine optimal pricing through analysis of sales trends, competitors, buying habits and planograms of products to promote sales opportunities.

Responsibilities:
Category Management
Develop knowledge of target consumers in order to understand the desired consumer experience. Act as the voice of the consumer, and use knowledge and data to anticipate consumer behavior to assist in the execution of product and category strategies
Initiate product category strategies for each assigned product category. Assist in development and management of category roadmap that outlines the strategic and financial objectives of projects needed to support the overall strategy
Negotiate and implement new programs with domestic vendors for assigned categories.
Assist in the development and implementation of the annual marketing promotional calendar. Analyze and report promotion results
Communicate price changes, new items, and other category information to appropriate internal and external personnel using Flash, Product Memos, I-Site postings, etc
Evaluate pricing while identifying opportunities for profitability based on competition and category goals
Digital Merchandising
Identify keywords and phrases needed to build strong SEO and implement strategic updates designed to increase traffic and drive conversion
Ensure Store Associates are equipped to engage customers with accurate information, specifications, cross references, and images
Partner with the digital marketing team to ensure the customers' path to purchase is seamless and inclusive of any/all search terms related to product and categories
Analysis
Work to review market information for assigned categories and determine success factors for top items.
Assist with analysis of retail/commercial competitive pricing calculating store level margin and competitiveness against defined competitors
Identify and report on top sellers and underperformers within each assigned category
Determine reasons for underperformance and recommend strategies to leverage/increase sales and/or discontinue
Category Expansion
Provide recommendations for new products and categories
Develop key sourcing list for product line extensions, working with Product Management team to ensure timely arrival, accurate costing and successful product introduction
For new product families, manage the new product implementation process from start through initial shipments to stores
Develop product specifications, benchmarks, pricing, etc.
Work with the Sourcing team to monitor/implement New Product/Sourcing Timeline
Ensure new items and updates are accurately entered into the master data system
Assist Marketing team with packaging attributes
Assist with development sales/store support materials needed to drive new programs
Store Assortment/Merchandising
Analyze and provide direction on store assortment for responsible categories on a monthly basis
Assist Marketing to develop and implement key signage programs related to responsible categories that will drive in store conversation and corresponding sales
People Leadership
Review and direct work the team and provide feedback
Provide mentorship, coaching and guidance to members of the team for development and accountability
Leverage project management and leadership techniques to influence change and execution
Qualifications:
5+ years of Category Management, Product Management, Product Buying, or Market Management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous retail industry experience
Equivalent to 4 years of college education or specialized training program with an emphasis in Marketing, Business Administration or related field
Understanding of multi-level distribution networks and retail industry experience
Demonstrate strong analytical abilities, using statistical and qualitative analysis to make recommendations or decisions to meet business needs specifically with market data, sales data, trends, and financial data
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to make presentations to senior management and co-workers
Passion for problem-solving and enjoy working in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and demanding team environment
