About this job

CarMax is seeking an Analyst in Accounts Payable at our Home Office in Richmond, Virginia. The Analyst II is responsible for supporting Accounts Payable related projects and identifying & enabling improvements to maintain or enhance the procure to pay processes. In addition, the position requires in-depth communication of sensitive, complex information both written and verbal with key stakeholders such as Procurement, Tax & Financial Systems. This associate must possess strong analytical skills and be a team player with a demonstrated ability to coach fellow associates.

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities

  • Mine and analyze data to effectively lead group discussions with internal and external business partners to troubleshoot complex problems, provide solutions to accounting issues as they arise

, and establish metric goals.

  • Create and modify company-wide processes to support SOX Controls and CarMax policies.

  • Guide suppliers to the use of an e-Commerce tool (Coupa) and to assist with complex transition issues. Engage other cross-functional teams as needed.

  • Perform general ledger activities including but not limited to account reconciliations, account fluctuation analysis and journal entries.

  • Initiate process improvements based on root cause analysis and automation enhancements by reducing the influx of unstructured data to optimize the procure to pay process.

  • Develop, analyze, and present a variety of reports and metrics to stakeholders and management.

  • Serve as a mentor, coach, and functional resource to team members.

  • Act as the subject matter expert for accounts payable regarding specific processes and projects spanning multiple departments and/or the company, activities and/or systems in support of CarMax transformation initiatives.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred, or equivalent work experience required

  • 4+ years of business-related experience required, including 3+ years of accounting, finance, or equivalent experience required, including accounts payable experience, account reconciliation, process improvement, and/or project management highly preferred

  • Strong accounting skills including general knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Experience and knowledge in Cloud-based ERP solutions, robotics, OCR technologies, and various automations desirable

  • Advanced level of Microsoft Excel required (i.e., Filtering, VLOOKUP, Subtotals, Shortcuts, Pivot tables)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Access is a plus

  • Experience with data analytics using querying language (SQL and Teradata SQL) is a plus

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Home Office and have a Hybrid work arrangement.

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
