Job Summary

This posting is for one position that will be filled at either the Automation Technician II, or Automation Technician III level commensurate with the successful candidates knowledge, skills, abilities and experience.

Automation Technician II

Installs, programs, and maintains electrical and automation systems such as RTUs, PLCs, electronic flow measurement devices, process control valves, wireless multiple address systems, environmental monitoring equipment, and hazardous environment monitoring equipment. Ensures compliance with and enforcement of applicable company safety, environmental, and governmental policies and regulations.

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Automation Technician III

This senior role Installs, maintains and troubleshoots electrical, measurement, and automation systems, including power systems ranging from 120 VAC to 480 VAC and 12 VDC to 120 VDC. Assists with Department of Transportation inspections at company facilities as required. Performs inspection of contract installation of electrical, measurement, and automation systems. Assists in planning and designing wire layout for electrical and automation projects. Complies and enforces company safety, environmental, and governmental policies and regulations as they apply. Trains lesser skilled technicians.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Automation Technician II

3-4 years directly related experience.

Knowledge of electrical, automation, and instrument systems operation and design.

Knowledge of National Electrical Code.

Working knowledge of electrical construction.

Knowledge of Ohm's Law to figure voltage drop, circuit capacity, circuit resistance load capacity, horsepower, voltage, and current.

Knowledge of company safety practices and procedures.

Knowledge of basic math.

Basic knowledge of electrical automation and measurement systems, including automatic control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC's), flow computers, AC and DC power systems, and associated instrumentation.

Routine electrical and automation equipment repair skills.

Skill in using electrical test equipment and hand tools.

Ability to understand and complete written and oral instructions.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to understand electrical schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.

Ability to interact with others, to communicate clear instructions, and to evaluate results.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to hear equipment warning bells and signals.

Ability to lift items weighing up to 75 pounds; and to move items weighing up to 500 pounds.

Ability to match or discriminate between colors.

Ability to see objects at close range.

Ability to see in the distance, and to determine the distance and relationship between objects.

Automation Technician III

5+ years directly related experience; Strong knowledge of electrical and automation system design and operation; Strong knowledge of National Electronic Code; Full knowledge of electrical construction; Knowledge of basic math to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and to perform the four operations with decimals and fractions; Advanced knowledge of Ohm's Law to figure voltage drop circuit capacity, circuit resistance, load capacity, horsepower, voltage and current; Full knowledge of company safety practices and procedures; Strong knowledge of electrical, automation and measurement systems including automatic control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC's), flow computers, AC and DC power systems and associated instrumentation; Advanced skill in the repair of electrical and automation equipment; Skill in the use of electrical test equipment and hand tools; Ability to perform instrument calibrations; Ability to use laptop computer to perform various tasks and job functions; Ability to understand and complete written and oral instructions; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to interact with others, to communicate clear instructions, and evaluate results; Ability to hear equipment warning bells and signals; Ability to lift items weighing up to 75 pounds; move items weighing up to 500 pounds with equipment assistance; Ability to see objects at close range; Ability to understand electrical schematic drawings and wiring diagrams; Ability to see in the distance and to determine the distance and relationship between objects.

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate; Disciplines: Preferred: Controls; Electrical

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Requires driving 4-wheel drive vehicle. Undergoes random drug and/or alcohol testing. Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Complies with OSHA annual audiometric testing requirements. May be required to become DOT operator-qualified while working in the position. May be required to obtain and maintain medical clearance to operate DOT regulated vehicle.
