Job Description:
Evaluates health record documentation to optimize reimbursement by ensuring that diagnostic and procedural codes and other documentation accurately reflect and support the inpatient visit. Ensures that data complies with regulatory and coding guidelines. Reviews medical information, such as diseases or symptoms and diagnostic descriptions and procedures for a given visit to accurately assign and sequence the correct ICD-1 CM/PCS codes and DRG assignment. Adheres to the quality and productivity standards set by the department. Work Experience: 3 years hospital inpatient coding experience AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH inpatient coding skills assessment.
Education Qualifications:
Successful completion or currently enrolled in a Health Information Technology or Health Information Administration program which includes course work in ICD-1-CM/PCS, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and disease processes AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH inpatient coding skills assessment. OR Successful completion of a medical coding program AND one (1) year hospital inpatient coding experience AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH inpatient coding skills assessment. OR Credentialed as, or eligible for, Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH inpatient coding skills assessment.
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
Credentialed as or eligible* for: CCS, CIC, RHIT, RHIA
*Applicable credentialing required within two years of date of hire
