Position summary: Responsible for preparing plans from the provided engineering sketches and details for projects. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Draft and prepare complete sets of accurate and high-quality structural plans.
Transfer engineering sketches and details to plans using MicroStation.
Perform basic engineering computations.
Update plans for quality control corrections.
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Required SkillsRequired Experience
Working knowledge of MicroStation
Knowledge of design and drafting procedures
Currently in or recent graduate from a community college CADD/Drafting program or recent graduate of a high school tech center CADD/Drafting program
Preferred Experience
0-5 years of experience in CAD drafting for engineering or related field
Technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting
Experience with VDOT guidelines, procedures and plan production is a plus
Candidates must be self-motivated, learn rapidly, and possess a strong desire to excel professionally
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 85% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Work is performed outdoors at bridge and other structural sites approximately 15% of the time. Work will be conducted in various weather conditions including heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid. The work will often be near live traffic potentially travelling at high speeds and therefore there is a need to be very safety conscious. Traffic proximity can cause loud noise during the work day and blow dust and debris near the work location. Field work will involve confined spaces, working from heights, traversing steep and rough terrain and at remote locations. Some lifting (up to 40 lbs) may be required as needed.
