Test Specialist, R&D Optical (Space Lasers) at SpaceX

TEST SPECIALIST, R&D OPTICAL (SPACE LASERS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently fabricate instrumentation and wire harnesses for ground support optical and electro mechanical test equipment

  • Independently fabricate electrical control systems and data acquisition systems test equipment

  • Assist in the design and fabrication of test fixtures and test setups and test stands (both small and large tests)

  • Independently perform simple and mid-level complexity tests with minimal engineering input

  • Collaborate with engineers on complex engineering tests and troubleshoots

  • Independently maintain and manage optics RND lab space

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a hands-on technical position

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience performing optical and/or electronic testing using hand held and data acquisition systems

  • Proficiency using optical test instrumentation including but not limited to beam profilers, optical power meters, free space polarizers and interferometers

  • Experience fabricating set ups with fiber optic cables

  • Experience in research and development or other fast-paced technical environment

  • Experience with test operations procedures including lasers and free spaces optical test set-ups

  • Ability to read electro-mechanical schematics to accomplish checkouts

  • Ability to fabricate and repair cable harnesses including: soldering, crimping, assembling connectors

  • Ability to read optical and mechanical assembly drawings and blue prints

  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to navigate and manipulate files

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment

  • Ability to take on project based goals and deliver a final product, working beyond individual task assignments

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 30 lbs unassisted

  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
