The Principal Systems Engineer will be part of a team whose role is to design and manage complex systems over their life cycles. The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for design, development, integration, and implementation of MBSE solutions for intricate systems. The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for operational, architectural, and requirements research, analysis, and documentation of U.S. Department of Defense systems. Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts will be conducted according to the UML, SysML, and the Unified Profile for DoDAF / MODAF (UPDM) modeling standards.
Principal Systems Engineer Essential Functions:
Performs system operational and functional analysis, project scope definition, customer needs analysis, requirements gathering and development.
Architectural analysis to include system architecture viewpoints and interface definition.
Ensure compliance with necessary system certification and accreditation processes.
Designs and develops conceptual and logical solutions.
Reviews and critiques requirements, models, simulations, designs, and solutions.
Provide technical leadership in conducting customer meetings, engineering data gathering activities with external subject matter experts resulting in positive relationships with clients and technical communities of interest.
Assist with proposal development by authoring and editing complex engineering documentation and proposals.
Provide technical leadership and management for all programs and projects within area of responsibility.
Principal Systems Engineer Required Education/Years of Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Computer Science, or Engineering from an accredited college or university.
5+ years of relevant experience.
Principal Systems Engineer Desired Qualifications:
Expert in system requirements management and analysis.
Expert in functional flow decomposition, CONOPS generation, and mission definition and decomposition.
Expert in optimizing systems engineering processes and assessing architectures and designs.
Subject Matter Expert (SME) in multiple technical domains.
Published whitepapers and/or research papers.
Expert in architecture modeling to support operational requirements and advanced analytics.
Expert in architecture modeling to develop advanced MBSE interfacing governance techniques.
Serve in a leadership position for more than 1 year (for individuals seeking technical leadership and management roles.
Principal Systems Engineer Certifications:
We encourage continuing education. Must possess or achieve one of the following certifications within the first year of this position:
OCSMP Model User or higher.
Scaled Agile certification.
DoD 8750 baseline certification based on required/recommended IAT/IAM Level.
Technical certifications required by the contract or labor category.
Other:
At least 2+ years of technical leadership experience leading technical teams, including junior technical leads.
Organizes and motivates multiple large teams.
Develops technical strategies for multiple customer domains.
Able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at a level that is appropriate to the contract(s) supported.
