Integration Technician (Dragon Ground Operations) - Multiple Shifts at SpaceX

INTEGRATION TECHNICIAN (DRAGON GROUND OPERATIONS) - MULTIPLE SHIFTS

SpaceX is currently seeking talented individuals for a position on the Dragon Ground Operations team. As a part of the team, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience and creativity to develop novel solutions in human spaceflight operations and reusability. You will work on pre-flight vehicle processing, recovery and refurbishment of the next generation Dragon spacecraft, designed to take crew and cargo to low earth orbit. For human flights, you will also work on pre-flight and recovery processing of the crew during their journey to the International Space Station. You will have ownership of your work in all phases of ground operation and will directly interface with astronauts. The role will also provide an opportunity to establish aircraft like operations on Dragon and interface with the design engineers on the next generation SpaceX Mars vehicle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Stage, set up, assemble, test and install flight hardware

  • Use precision calibrated tools: torque wrenches, micrometers and calipers

  • Hands-on operations with both large as well as small, fragile assemblies

  • Read and interpret blue prints

  • Perform work according to procedures, specifications and test instructions

  • Use various mechanical tools without instruction

  • Collaborate with Dragon operations engineers to develop and document activities

  • Processes crew immediately prior to spaceflight and upon return to Earth

  • Ensure launch services are performed on time, safely and in a professional manner

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate

  • 1+ years of experience with payload, spacecraft, aircraft or aerospace integration and/or processing

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree

  • Airframe & Powerplant license or aerospace technology certification

  • AV1200-4 certified for vehicle and electrical ground support equipment terminations

  • Familiarity with data acquisition system architecture and terminations

  • Familiarity with vehicle electrical ground support equipment architecture and hardware

  • Knowledge of pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices; mechanical and electrical systems

  • Prior experience working with launch vehicles, human spaceflight, or supporting hardware ocean recovery

  • Experience with hypergols or hazardous systems

  • Skill in operating and manipulating machinery and various hand and power tools requiring manual dexterity

  • Marine experience

  • Experience with forklifts, cranes and heavy equipment

  • A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical drawings, manuals and reports

  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment

  • Ability to perform hydrostatic and pneumatic testing

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work either 1st shift: 6 AM - 4PM or 2nd shift: 4 PM - 2 AM

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral

  • Ability to pass SCAPE medical qualifications and be willing to perform operations in SCAPE

  • Must be willing to travel

  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight spaces.

  • Willing to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain, wind, open ocean

  • Must be willing to work all hours, and overtime, as required

  • Must be comfortable being trained to work around hypergolic propellants (MMH and NTO)
