Job Summary

Please note: Typical lab equipment, such as ICPs, GCs, HPLCs, etc are NOT used. Instead simple spectrophotomers, colorimeters, pH meters, and conductivity analyzers are used to run grab samples. Most of the work takes place in an industrial environment and outdoors

There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Job Responsibilities Include:

- Performs maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting on in-line analyzers such as silica, sodium, pH, and conductivity to ensure accuracy and reliability.

- Supports chemical/water-related troubleshooting activities on power plant systems and equipment.

- Maintain and troubleshoot a variety of chemical feed systems related to steam cycle chemistry and environmental compliance.

- Operates and maintains demineralized makeup equipment such as clarifiers, gravity and carbon filters, reverse osmosis, and demineralizers.

- Works closely with station environmental team for plant sample collection, analysis, and compliance reporting.

- Works closely with crafts to repair and troubleshoot water treatment equipment.

- Completes chemical cleaning activities and regenerations when required for the RO and demin vessels.

- Monitors cooling tower chemistry and makes chemical feed and operational adjustments when necessary.

- Maintains and monitors chemical inventories, order and coordinate chemical and regent deliveries when necessary, and ensure chemical storage meets safety & environmental requirements.

- Provides technical and analytical support to power station or company personnel for water, fuel, chemical and environmental samples.

- Collects environmental samples and conducts various inspections (oil, storm water, waste, CCR, etc.)

- Record, analyze, and maintain historical station chemistry data and report on findings

- Develop and implement operational and laboratory procedures and processes related to station chemistry.

- Ensure laboratory equipment is well maintained and calibrated

- Monitor real-time data collection systems related to steam cycle chemistry and respond to any alarms or anomalous readings.

- Provide chemistry related training, information, and guidance to station maintenance, operations, and leadership.

- Perform various analytical bench top and field tests to ensure proper steam cycle chemistry, fuel quality, and environmental compliance.

- Performs other chemistry and environmental compliance duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Chemistry Technician: 3+ years of related experience

Sr. Chemistry Technician: 5+ years of related experience

- Demonstrate basic knowledge of water chemistry and parameters to monitor in Power Plant Water Chemistry, Demineralized Water Treatment (Clarifiers, Filtration, Reverse Osmosis, Demineralization preferred), and Cooling Tower Chemistry.

- Demonstrate independent mindset to perform routine monitoring, analysis, and troubleshooting

- Demonstrate strong communication skills to effectively communicate chemistry-related concepts to operations and leadership

- Demonstrate skills with creating and implementing procedures and processes that are clear, concise, and easy to follow

- Demonstrate skills with working in teams with diverse skillsets to troubleshoot issues

- Knowledge in identifying chemistry-related technical or mechanical problems and working towards a solution

- Knowledge in entering, analyzing, and evaluating historical data in excel and PI Processbook

- Knowledge in entering notifications into SAP

Chemistry Tech: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Senior Chemistry Tech: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Education Requirements

Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Bath County Power Station only: Waste Water (Cass IV) License. Potable Water License
