Position summary: JMT's Washington, D.C. office is looking for a Water Resources Project Engineer to be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

  • Perform design computations

  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

  • Develop construction cost estimates

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates

  • Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

  • Attend meetings with clients

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required SkillsRequired Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • 5-10 years' experience in Water Resources or related engineering discipline

  • Proficient in Microstation and/or Civil 3D CADD software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

  • Professional Engineer License

  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level

  • Proficiency in discipline specific design software, including TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, FlowMaster, and/or HEC-RAS preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
