The Design Engineer is responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Essential functions and Responsibilities
Design and Oversee plans, estimates and specifications for compliance with FHWA, PennDOT and the city of Philadelphia's guidelines and standards
Develop construction documents including all aspects of highway and site design (geometrics, details, ADA criteria, roadway profiles, utility design and coordination, pavement markings, and maintenance of traffic, signage)
Perform design computations
Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
Develop construction cost estimates
Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Required Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Proficient in Microstation and InRoads and/or OpenRoads
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited engineering program
Minimum of 3 years of transportation engineering experience, related to highways, urban streetscapes and roadway rehabilitation type projects
Engineer-in-training certification
Experience working with the city of Philadelphia, PennDOT, and other local clients
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
