Position summary: A career-minded Water/Wastewater engineer, looking towards advancement, is needed to join JMT's fast growing Water/Wastewater consultant engineering practice. Employee will assist with leading engineering tasks and projects in the water/wastewater field through working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards and processes; perform multiple design tasks concurrently, prepare construction documents, prepare and update project schedules and cost estimates; develop, analyze and document critical design elements; coordinate the efforts of a design team to determine requirements and incorporate feedback. The selected candidate will become part of an established team of engineers working on exciting water distribution / transmission, wastewater conveyance and rehabilitation, and facility designs. Employee is expected to provide quality engineering evaluation and design services efficiently to support the project team's objective and provide customer satisfaction on all projects. As a condition of employment, hire will be required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Proof of vaccination will need to be submitted as part of the interview/hiring process.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Design responsibilities and task management

  • Assist with development of construction plans using CAD and 3D design tools

  • Develop technical specifications for various design projects

  • Perform design computations and develop technical memoranda

  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines

  • Develop construction cost estimates

  • Developing scopes of work, developing conceptual designs and preliminary engineering studies, conceiving and implementing field investigation programs, as well as coordination of design disciplines in final design projects

  • Construction phase engineering services

  • Flexibility to support time-critical report development and production to meet demanding schedules

  • Coordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants, government agencies and firm staff

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

Required Skills

  • Candidates must have the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-production office environment, build successful team relationships and maintain positive coworker interactions

  • Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with civil engineering principles, hydraulic designs, sewer rehabilitation, water and sewer design, engineering economics, preparation of specifications and engineering report writing

  • Candidates must demonstrate organized practices, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have flexibility to support time-critical report development and production in order to meet demanding schedules

  • Candidates should have a firm grasp of general heavy construction principles; environmental facilities operations-related experience is considered a plus

  • Applicant should demonstrate strong team-building skills

  • Candidate should be able to present technical writing product to internal team

  • Strong computer skills are required: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and MS Project are a plus.

Required Experience

  • 4-8 Years' Experience

  • A working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction permitting regulations

Qualifications Preferred

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • Possess a Professional Engineering License in the state of Pennsylvania or have the ability to acquire a license through reciprocity within six months of employment

  • Experience working with local clients

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
